If you are on copper backed cabinet then your number will have to be changed if you want to move on fiber, i had to change my number back in 2012 when i moved from copper to fiber.
What is your vpi/vci? I think fiber uses 8 81 vpi vci values and if that's what you have then u won't have to change your number.

I am on main D-road in Phase-5 and they have setup a Fiber cabinet on the same. They seem to be increasing the number of copper DPs, one erected just to the side and they are doing some digging work on D-road near the cabinet, for the first time saw signs that read 'high-speed network' but lol, 10 minutes later they were removed for some reason. I am still not sure what they are doing. The cabinet is near by so I surely will ask for a fiber connection once the work is completed. The lineman said our tele wire will be shifted to the new DP nearby which has not happened yet.

I guess if these copper lines are gonna run from the Fiber cabinet, the DSL VPI/VCI will change too? Correct? and another thing, the telephone number will change or not? Since I wish to have this same number after the upgrade, kind of a sticky point.
Yes, regardless of changing to a fiber backed copper line or GPON, your number will have to change.

VPI/VCI goes from 0/103 to 8/81.
Have you noticed the work Nayatel has been doing? They have put cable conduits on the main PWD-road and built access points to the same, must have noticed the digging near the Bahria turn too. I wasn't sure whose work it was, guessed it was PTCL but a friend saw Nayatel guys monitoring the work. Also, it is being laid inside the Police Foundation streets near Lahore School System/back side of Oasis School on main road.
Yes I have. Unfortunately, I don't think it means anything for us Bahria residents. NOC issues are still pending, or may be done, I'll find out.

Also, my friend lives around the same place you are. One of the streets nearby Road D

Let's see, this is a turn off TBH, why can't the number simply be changed to Fiber :-/... We're sort of sentimental about the number, lol. What series number did they allot to you on Fiber?

Well there is no way around it sadly. You don't have to change your number though, just get a new line and use it for DSL only as i did. I don't even have telephone connected to my DSL line number.
Also from my personal experience, my old copper line goes DEAD much more then my fiber DSL line so even when my home telephone line is dead usually my dsl is working fine 90% of the time. :laugh1:

Well, you might be able to have them port the same number on copper to a Fiber based DSL line, I say this because I was originally on copper when I moved to Phase 1, and I was assigned a 570xxxx number back in 2012, later they introduced an ONU, and I kept the same number while I upgraded to 8 Mbps.

Later however when GPON came, last August, I was allotted a 272xxxx number which is the series that all GPON based lines have.

You guys are lucky. I live in Gulshan-e-Maymar...I don't think fibre optic internet will be offered here till after 2025 lol. We were one of the first people to get a DSL connection in our area back in 2007 - PTCL was great then - and now it sucks balls.

They're expanding their GPON a lot nowadays, if not immediately, you'll at least get an upgraded fiber cabinet in your area, capable of VDSL at least.

I'm actually on one of their "Fibre optic" lines. My DSL's VPI/VCI is 0/103 but it is fibre to the "cabinet" apparently (they upgraded the entire infrastructure in Maymar back in 2006). When they were setting up my DSL, the tech took me to the "cabinet" - it was an airconditioned room next to retail shops with racks of new equipment. When there's loadshedding, the equipment runs off batteries, whereas the old copper system has a generator hooked up.

0/103 can't be a fiber based line, so the cabinet is either really old, or they're lying to you.

No. I'm pretty sure. I talked to the technician in detail. It is possible to have a 0/103 line on the fibre to the node line. I've been a long time member on wiredpakistan and there were many people with the same case.

agreed.

They upgraded the cabinet near my home too, to a fiber one. The line parameters increased but VPI/VCI is 0/103.

Still getting retarded pings in BF1.

Ping is 170 in a few 24-people servers (TDM, Rush etc). However, in ALL Conquest servers the ping is 300+.

Any solution murtaza12?

I checked mine yesterday, it's not 170 anymore, but it's not 300 either. Getting around 240 ish on TDM.
I'm on the 39.40.x.x pool.

It used to be 170 TDM and 240 Conquest during the 'bad' days a month or so ago. Now it's 170 on TDM and 300+ on Conquest during the 'good' days. On bad days its 250 on TDM and 350ish on Conquest.

P.S. 182.x.x.x tonight.

I find it odd how your IP pool changes, I haven't gotten anything different than 39.40.x.x for the past 2 and a half years.

I am also on 182.*.*.* and my ping is always less then 200ms on 95% of EU servers no matter the game.
But i have a static IP, its much easier to complain to PTCL if you have a static IP as they can fix problem specifically for you.
