Danny Boyle needs no introduction.
127 Hours &
Slumdog Millionaire are names quite famous, evident of his phenomenal work.
Trance is something different from
Boyle, something which would make the audience confuse, and make you board the roller-coaster ride to a sub-conscious world.
From the beginning,
Trance tests your patience and requires your undivided attention. The first quarter makes you question, Is it a Thriller focused on Revenge for stolen property? Second Quarter makes you wonder, if its just about the lost painting? Third Quarter is where things pick up the pace but you still ask whether its a Love Story? Till you reach the end, you
think that you have solved the confusion and have predicted the ending.
BUT NO. It tests your attention till the very end. It seems for a moment that its
a Fight of a man with himself.
Script was weak where it could've been more interested and thought provoking, making the audience ask questions on several occasions like - "
Why there was a need for Rosario Dawson to show full frontal nudity, or Why she needed to sleep with MvAvoy". The acting could've been less emotional by
McAvoy for audience to figure out what
exactly was going on. But we are forgetting that Boyle made the audience
struggle, so all things forgiven.
Earlier we have only heard about Hypnotism in novels and stuff but the actual presentation of it was quite thrilling to watch to be honest.
The start makes you feel
James McAvoy being the good guy but till the end, you may find
Vincent Cassel (Ocean's 13, Black Swan) more interesting character than the former
The ending part where
Cassel is stuck in the burning Car was so intense and well shot that for a moment it suck me into the movie.
Trance 'eh?
That being said, i don't appreciate
Rosario Dawson showing this kind of nudity. I like her in Respectful, emotional and appealing roles like in
Seven Pounds. Nonetheless, she was a focused part of the movie and i like her screen presence.
Plot was brilliant, story telling was phenomenal and mind-boggling, acting was superb and emotions - HIGH. Infact, this
may remind the audience the "feel" of
Seven Pounds (2008) movie on several occasions especially when
McAvoy was with
Dawson. And some places would hint another
Inception (2010). The chemistry between
James McAvoy &
Rosario Dawson was immensely over shadowed by the deep strong emotions by McAvoy.
You will immediately fall in Love with Trance after you cross the first 20 minutes & You will immensely appreciate the work of Boyle and the great shiny piece he presented (despite all its shortcomings). I'd easily give it
8/10.
Besides, even after paying undivided attention, i still had to take approx 5-10 minutes to revise the movie in my head, to see what actually happened lol.
