I don't actually own a Maemo device, but am a HUGE fan of the platform itself and the devices. So here we go, the Maemo owners' club. :D

Owners List:
  • Kinamatix - Nokia Rover (N900) - Maemo 5 Fremantle - 32GB internal eMMC
  • R420R - Nokia Rover (N900) - Maemo 5 Fremantle - 32GB internal eMMC
  • hussainmushahid- Nokia Rover (N900) - Maemo 5 Fremantle - 32GB internal
  • Exobiota - Nokia Rover (N900) - Maemo 5 Fremantle - 32GB internal eMMC
  • Gr33d - Nokia Rover (N900) - Maemo 5 Fremantle - 32GB internal eMMCl.

Post in this format to get added to the list:
Username - Model - Version - External Memory Installed.

So, for example, if you own an N900, you would write:
Username - Nokia Rover - Maemo 5 Fremantle - Sandisk 16GB Class 4 microSDHC

It would help if you could add a picture of your device to lend this thread some colour. :)

Though I dont own any of Maemo device, I am a huge fan of Maemo. It has lots of power (virtually total Linux OS). So I think that with a little tweaking, it can run any Linux app with ease. And people can develop powerful apps for the devices too due to the huge fan base of Linux OS.

Yes but Maemo itself has a Linux base, kernel and compiler to run Debian based programs, since Maemo is just a customized version of Debian.
Android, however, only uses a Linux kernel, and the rest of the OS is sort-of Java based. It's Linux, but then...it's not. :p

Hey I thought lots of people has N900s here and defended them to the death lol, where are they?

N900 is a modder's heaven. With the ability to boot it with Maemo, Android AND iOS...it IS the ultimate handheld calling device to own.

Yeah but it's not exactly solid either. The Android port is lacking in a few areas and where's iOS? :p
Thing is with the N900 is that, for me, the keyboard is too damn small. Even the E75 has a bigger keyboard lol

Believe me here, the N900 is dead end at the moment, the community is showing signs of slowly dwindling away and the OS itself has been discontinued by Nokia. However these reasons need not affect your decision in purchasing the N900. It has one of the richest feature sets under its wing, the greatest density screen Nokia has ever manufactured and a very good touch interface.
The only thing is however that this device is not a mainstream smartphone device. Nokia had made it very clear that this was a device not intended for the general public who are wowed by things such as animations and live wallpapers. It was designed to attract potential developers from the community toward development of apps for the MeeGo platform. It was described as "step 4 out of 5" in a predefined development path ending in MeeGo.
Why else do you think there is only one Maemo 5 device?
Many of the cloud based conveniences most high-end smartphones bring to you within the same price point are absent in the N900, as well as a lot of other features that would make it a pleasure to use on a day-to-day basis.

You should only buy this device IF:
  • You are a technically minded person (it would be a waste if you weren't, even if it did work for you) and would like tinkering around with it.
  • You want a full web browsing and multitasking experience that almost no other phone provides
  • You don't mind having one of the thickest and one of the heavier phones on the market
  • Having the latest hardware or the most polished interface doesn't matter to you and you don't base your purchase decision on how many apps it has or how much you can show off with it.

Personally, I consider this more as a weekend gadget toy to play around with or a dedicated replacement to a netbook, or even the smallest mobile computer money can buy at the moment.
It all depends on whether all of this is what you would prioritize overanything else.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
