I no longer own a n900 device so I can't help you much but it seems there has been great development on the android port since the last time I checked it.

yes n900 supports java applications but through a 3rd party app
u dont need ebuddy and skype as skype is built in with video calling

What particular protocol are you trying to use on the device? Google Talk? MSN? I ask because there are plugins available for all these protocols, and integrate directly into the Coversations application on the device.

Cant seem to install anything (missing package n stuff)

Can the Linux/Unix files work on maemo? Coz i need to install Mieru (Manga reader) on my cell but (as always) there's a fricking file missing from the damn repository (libblkid1 or somethng)

^have you thought of asking this question at maemo.org forums ? I don't own a n900 anymore so can't help much but I think you need to add extras repositories.
