[h=1]Joe Manganiello Casts Doubt Over Playing Deathstroke in The Batman[/h]

Despite being the breakout star of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Ben Affleck’s Batman has had a difficult time getting his solo movie off the ground. Part of the trouble is directly connected to Affleck’s dwindling role with The Batman in total. At first he was scheduled to not only star, but also write, direct, and produce – quite the task for one man to take on. Since then, he has stepped away from directing duties and previously handed off scripting duties to Chris Terrio.
With Matt Reeves now directing the picture, he has reportedly ordered a page one rewrite of the script. This has left all previous reported plot points and character statuses up in the air, but many still assumed that Joe Manganiello would stick around as the villain, Deathstroke. He has been a constant source of positivity for the project, but now he isn’t sure he’ll be making an appearance.
While speaking to Pittsburgh Today Live (via Batman-News), the interviewers asked Manganiello about his status with the film. When asked if it was true he would be appearing in The Batman as Deathstroke, he simply (and surprisingly) said after throwing his hands in the air, “Umm. Maybe. We’ll see.”

This is a drastic change in tone for Manganiello who previously has stated that he’ll be involved whenever the project is ready to go and he’s continuing to train for the part. It seems unlikely that the timing of this change so soon after the recent reports of Reeves’ desire to implement his ideas into the script is by accident; it was Affleck and Geoff Johns who wanted Deathstroke to be the villain this time around, but Reeves may have other villains in mind. Then again, he could also find a role for Deathstroke in his story if WB pushes him to do so, just maybe not as the main bad guy.
Even if Manganiello does not make an appearance as Deathstroke in The Batman, it would be rather shocking for him never to bring the character to life on the big screen. He has already gone through costume tests, leading to speculation he could appear in Justice League, although WB also wanted him for Suicide Squad originally. If Deathstroke is kicked out of The Batman, the studio will surely find a spot for him in one of their countless other films being developed. Possible appearances in Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, or even some amalgamation of The Flash and Cyborg becoming a Titans film could all work.
The current unknown status of Deathstroke in The Batman could stay this way for some time as Reeves is not expected to begin working on the film until later this year. Hopefully for the sake of Deathstroke fans and Manganiello – who has been extremely excited to bring the character to life – the killer will make his big screen debut sooner rather than later.

[h=1]Arnold Schwarzenegger Would Play Another Batman Villain[/h]

After his turn as Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin, Arnold Schwarzenegger is open to playing another movie supervillain. Warner Bros. may just be starting what they plan to be a long line of films that make up the DC Extended Universe, but this is hardly the first time many of these characters have been brought to life on the big screen. Their two headliners, Batman and Superman, have each led multiple movies over the years, with Richard Donner’s Superman and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight largely deemed the best movie for each. While both have already been featured prominently in the new DCEU, the studio has introduced new iterations of the characters.
As the DCEU progresses, there is a strong chance that other characters, namely villains, will once again be brought to life on the big screen. Whereas Heath Ledger’s Joker is still the performance to beat, there are a number of characters that can be served much better in a second attempt. Batman & Robin specifically has a number of cringe-worthy villains, led by Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze. Well, with a number of new villains set to populate these future films, the former Terminator is hoping for another shot.

Schwarzenegger was asked if he would be interested in returning to the superhero world recently by Fandango, and even though the reaction to his Mr. Freeze has not become more well-received over time, he’s open to another opportunity. He says if the project is great and well-written, he would love to take on another member of Batman’s famed rogue gallery.
Absolutely! I think all of those movies, if they’re written well, they’re entertaining. If it’s Batman or Batman and Robin, or X-Men or Spider-Man – all of them. If they’re written well, they have a great life. People enjoy them, and you can see the grosses that they make worldwide. So, yes, of course I would.

There is no telling whether or not Schwarzenegger will ever have the chance to live out this dream, but if he is open to it, the chances are definitely higher. His performance in Batman & Robin may have left a bad taste in the mouth of its viewers, but he is hardly the only thing wrong with that movie. As it stands today, he is still one of the most recognizable actors in Hollywood and as studios continue to look for big stars to join these mega-franchises, it is almost surprising Schwarzenegger hasn’t been swooped up already.
With his interest now public, it remains to be seen whether or not he could fit into a role within the DCEU. Matt Reeves has recently taken over control of The Batman that there is no clear direction that the film is taking just yet – so much so in fact that Joe Manganiello isn’t sure if Deathstroke will appear. It is always possible that Reeves could now find a way to work a role for Schwarzenegger into his film, but the director appears determined to make his vision, so there could simply not be a role for the actor.
Even if a movie within the future Batman franchise does not have a role for Schwarzenegger, there could be another place for him in the DCEU. In fact, previously it was discovered that both Geoff Johns and Patty Jenkins followed him on Twitter sparking speculation he could have a role in Wonder Woman. Johns’ Twitter activity specifically has revealed people who came to be involved in the DCEU, so Schwarzenegger could very well already have a role locked in place, and is simply just teasing it now in the press.

[h=1]Rumor: Four Batman Movies in 2019?[/h]

A new rumor suggests that 2019 will see four separate movies based on Batman characters released. Warner Bros. will probably never stop making Batman movies. Ever since the 1989 Tim Burton-directed feature effectively “invented” the modern-day superhero movie genre, the studio has maintained a constant state of either producing or actively developing for production one Batman-related project or another – even as the genre and series have risen and fallen in popularity.
That push remains stronger than ever as the studio looks to build it’s so-called DC Extended Universe, and despite the overwhelmingly negative critical consensus and mixed box-office success that has greeted its initial efforts therein (including the headling-making departure of star Ben Affleck as director of The Batman solo film) the studio remains very much in the Batman business.
Now, a far-out set of rumors – all of which would be major announcements, if true – has been posted to a “DCEU Leaks” reddit forum (via the controversial 4chan message boards), suggesting that the studio is planning to mark what will be the 80th anniversary of the Batman character by releasing four separate feature films set in and around the Batman franchise. The complete rumor list reads as follows:
The plan for 2019 is to release four Batman related films. Gotham City Sirens around Valentine’s Day weekend, Nightwing on Memorial Day weekend, Batgirl in August and The Batman in November. The studio is doing this to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Batman.

The Batman film will still have Deathstroke but not as a main villain. Matt Reeves wants to do a larger scale Batman film that will include the Bat family as well as most of Batman’s rogues.
In addition, two Batman animated films are also planned for 2019. One will be an adaptation of The Long Halloween.
Grant Wilson might be the villain for the Nightwing solo film. He is hired by Roland Desmond to take out all the mob bosses in Blüdhaven.
Suicide Squad 2 or Dark Universe will most likely be taking Aquaman’s previous release date.
Mel Gibson is no longer the front runner to direct the Suicide Squad sequel. Jaume Collet-Serra and Ruben Fleischer are now the top candidates. The script is currently being written with a story pitch given by Ayer. Killer Frost will be the new female lead to replace Harley Quinn.
The Dark Universe script is going through final rewrites. Guillermo Del Toro’s old treatment was used as a base and was rewritten to connect to the universe. If Liman is ready, filming could start as early as summer.
Four movies are also planned for 2020. Warner Bros wants to do two low budget/smaller scale films and two big budget/larger scale films per year.
Jonathan Levine is in talks to direct The Flash. The film will most likely release in 2020.
Matthew Vaughn will most likely write the Man of Steel sequel if he takes on the directional duties.

This would potentially be setting a record for the most superhero films connected by a single character in one year; specifically, the rumored slate would have the Harley Quinn-centered Gotham City Sirens hitting Valentine’s Day Weekend, the Nightwing spin-off targeting Memorial Day, Batgirl (a potential Joss Whedon project) arriving in August and The Batman capping off the year in November. With the various projects reportedly playing with including other Bat-family members, such a release gambit would make sense.
The rest of the rumors, which have so far drawn no direct response from Warner Bros, deal with the likes of Suicide Squad 2 and Dark Universe, one of which could be fast-tracked for a 2018 release as previously reported. It’s worth taking them with a pinch of salt given their origins, but 4chan can sometimes be on the money. With DC juggling dozens of in-development projects, there’s sure to be more rumblings and announcements in the coming months.

Deathstroke Creator Praises Joe Manganiello After Recent Meeting

Deathstroke is one of the most formidable villains in DC comics. Originally a Teen Titans baddie, he’s faced off with some of DC’s biggest heroes, including Batman, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman. His strength, skills, abilities, and confidence are so great that he does not even hide the fact he only has one eye. So, of course, his inclusion in the DC Extended Universe has been anticipated right from the beginning. In September of 2016, it was confirmed that Deathstroke would appear in The Batman, played by Joe Manganiello.
Since the announcement, Manganiello has frequently offered updates and photos from the film and himself in the role. So it was a bit of a surprise when a few weeks ago, the actor cast some doubt on whether he was still going to appear in The Batman. Once Ben Affleck stepped down as director and Matt Reeves took over the film, the script reportedly entered rewrites, and the previously enthusiastic Manganiello suddenly became a bit coy when asked if Deathstroke would still appear in the film.
There is a glimmer of hope for those who want to see Manganiello as Deathstroke. The actor met recently with Deathstroke’s creator Marv Wolfman. After the meeting, Wolfman took to Facebook (via Batman News) to let the world know “After a great lunch with Joe Manganiello, I feel more confident than ever that we got both the Slade Wilson the movies need and the Deathstroke great movies deserve.”

It should be noted that Wolfman did not specify that Deathstroke would be seen in The Batman. There are several other films in the DCEU where the character could appear. He might have an introductory cameo in Justice League. Then again, he may be seen in any of the other upcoming films, such as Aquaman, Shazam, Cyborg, or Green Lantern Corps.
He also might still be appearing in The Batman. Manganiello may have simply been responding to concerns over the rewrite, suggesting it is substantial enough that his appearance in the film has been called into question. Whether or not his role in The Batman has been altered, deleted, or will remain the same will likely remain to be seen for some time. That doesn’t mean Warner Bros. is about to recast the character altogether. And it seems like Manganiello has someone in his corner who knows a thing or two about what makes the character tick.
When we see Deathstroke might be a mystery. But it is nice to have confirmation that Manganiello is still playing the role, whether it is in The Batman or somewhere else in the DCEU.

[h=1]WB/DC Heads Play Down Multiple 2019 Batman Movies Rumor[/h]

Despite a rumor that made waves over the weekend, there probably won’t be four Batman-related movies arriving in 2019. The rumor surfaced just a few days ago (at the time of writing this), indicating that DC and Warner Bros. are planning four separate Batman-oriented movies for release in two years’ time. While the rumor was delivered with a hefty dose of salt, it still got the Internet buzzing.
While WB/DC currently has Matt Reeves’ The Batman, David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens, Chris McKay’s Nightwing, and Joss Whedon’s Batgirl DC Extended Universe movie in development, only The Batman and Gotham City Sirens seem to have a good shot at making a 2019 release date, at the moment. While that outlook could change (either way) over the year ahead, right now it doesn’t appear as though WB/DC are banking on having four movies featuring the Caped Crusader (in some form) ready to hit theaters by 2019.
WB executive producer Jon Berg took to Twitter earlier to joke about the rumor with DC Entertainment President, Geoff Johns. Together, they’re the two people that are ultimately in-charge of the DCEU and know more than anyone what films are planned (and when they’ll be ready to arrive). Berg poked fun at the rumor and the sheer number of proposed Batman films in one year, with Johns (jokingly) suggesting one of the many Bat-films they could attempt:
@thejonberg 27. Including Batmite: The Movie. pic.twitter.com/9jzHpYiHVS
— Geoff Johns (@geoffjohns) April 11, 2017
Funnily enough, we recently wrote about how Bat-Mite was one of the characters we’ll never see in the DCEU. While Johns clearly feels the same way, perhaps it’s all just a huge ruse to drum up support for a Bat-Mite film. (Okay, probably not.) Instead, it’s a fun example of how rumors based on vague sources can take on a life of their own. It also shows that even the higher ups are listening and more than willing to comment when something is just too off the wall to be reality.
In the meantime, DC does have plenty of films on the horizon. Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman will be hitting theaters in just a few months, with Zack Snyder’s Justice League pulling together the DCEU’s biggest superheroes in the fall. As things stand, James Wan’s Aquaman remains slated to debut late in 2018, followed by Shazam in 2019, then Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps in 2020. Whether the future of the DCEU will deviate (or not) from that course, remains to be seen from here.

[h=1]Batman: Josh Gad Teases Interest in Playing The Penguin[/h]

The Dark Knight may be facing a familiar foe in the DCEU, if the latest tweet from Josh Gad is to be believed. Ever since Ben Affleck was announced as the new Batman for DC’s shared universe, talk has turned to the possibility of a solo film featured the more grizzled version of Gotham’s protector. Following the success of Batman v Superman, the stars began to align as word of The Batman broke, with a script by Affleck and DC head Geoff Johns, with the star also directing. For awhile, it even looked as if the film would land next year, before the production hit a number of snags.
As it stands, things seem to be holding steady with Affleck being replaced behind the camera by War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves. The release date is still up in the air, however, and even the previous confirmation of Joe Manganiello playing Deathstroke has since been brought into question. Of couse, the Dark Knight has no shortage of rogues in the comics, and it looks as if a familiar one could be in the works.
Josh Gad took to his Twitter to post a photo of the Penguin without any caption or context. While he could simply be trolling fans, there’s a good chance he’s either campaigning for the role or teasing that he’s already been cast. Check it out below:
pic.twitter.com/36NBBdA3g6
— Josh Gad (@joshgad) May 2, 2017
The Penguin has long been one of Batman’s chief foes. He’s already appeared on the big screen in Batman Returns, and features on Gotham every week on FOX. As such, it’s not hard to imagine him eventually joining the DCEU. The tweet could simply be Gad’s way of exciting his considerable fan base in case the oppurutunity to play Oswald Cobblepot ever arises. Another possibility, however, is that Gad knows something more and Penguin will be taking the place of Deathstroke in The Batman.
Over the past few years, Gad’s star has risen considerably. From roles in Frozen to the recent Beauty and the Beast, he’s certainly a name in Hollywood. And while his history with Disney might make it seem more likely he’d join an MCU film, Joss Whedon recently proved there’s no love lost when it comes to Disney talent working with Warner Bros.
Gad certainly fits the look of Penguin, and could more than handle the character’s quirk, but the bigger question is whether another take on the Penguin should be attempted. Danny DeVito’s turn as the villain is still remembered fondly, and Robin Taylor has been putting his mark on the character for three years on TV. Of course, the Flash, Suicide Squad, and even Deathstroke himself all have recent television history, and that hasn’t stopped DC and WB from bringing new versions of them to the big screen. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see whether Josh Gad and the Penguin will be joining The Batman whenever it finally starts production

[h=1]The Batman: Ben Affleck Reportedly Began Training Again[/h]

Ben Affleck has reportedly begun training again to suit up for The Batman. Taking a look back at the development of The Batman, Warner Bros. announced in 2013 that Affleck was the newest Batman. The actor played the part in DCEU films Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, both released last year. Affleck is set to reprise the role in the upcoming Justice League and it was announced last year that a standalone movie called The Batman would be made, with the actor both starring and directing.
The Batman was originally said to begin filming in 2017, but several developments have derailed that plan. First, Affleck dropped out of the director’s chair, and was replaced by Matt Reeves. Then, there were rumors that Affleck was going to drop out of the Batman role as well, although these never came to pass. Then, Affleck announced in March that he had completed treatment for alcoholism, followed by reports that the rehab stint had no bearing on either his decision to not direct or his future in the Batman suit. Now, there’s word that the film may be edging closer to production.
Affleck has begun training for the Batman role, according to a report this week from The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez on Heroic Insider. Gonzalez cited an unnamed source:
“Ben Affleck, Batman, I just got word that he just started training again for the role. You know how there was talk that he was gonna leave and he might leave the role? Nah, bro. He’s working out. He’s getting back in shape.”
It’s not been announced when The Batman will officially get underway with its production, nor is there a release date; it’s also unclear where Gonzalez got this information, though he is well known among superhero fans for his comic book movie-related scoops.

Whatever fans think about the previous DCEU releases, Affleck’s place in them, or the potential for Justice League based on its first trailer, the news about Affleck training for the new movie is promising, and not only because it means the delay may soon be over. The focus of a standalone movie, especially from a first-rate director like Reeves, may be just what the DCEU needs. It’s also a good sign that Affleck, following his recent rehab stint, is getting back in the saddle.
Then again, for those who thought Affleck’s super-muscular physique in Dawn of Justice didn’t seem right for Batman/Bruce Wayne, perhaps they’ll believe Affleck shouldn’t train quite so hard this time.
The Batman does not presently have an official release date; we will keep you posted once we know more about the status.

[h=1]The Batman: DCEU Producer Has ‘Every Expectation’ Ben Affleck Will Star[/h]

The latest word from behind the scenes of the forthcoming DC Extended Universe franchise film The Batman has one noted producer assuring audiences that Ben Affleck is expected to return and star in the lead role. After backing out as a director of the aforementioned franchise production – with War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves stepping up to the plate to helm the latest soon-to-be blockbuster event from Warner Bros. Pictures – things are still moving forward on the hotly anticipated feature length production.
After spending a brief stint in rehab for alcohol abuse, the star of last year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad has recently begun getting back in shape to appear in The Batman as directed by Reeves – despite recent rumors that would have fans believing the opposite to be true. If everything goes according to plan, Affleck will be back to play Bruce Wayne in forthcoming DCEU feature, as further asserted by one producer in particular.
According to JoBlo, veteran DCEU executive producer Charles Roven – whose previous credits include working on everything from Man of Steel to the forthcoming Wonder Woman – Affleck is definitely not out of the running when it comes to reprising his superhero role in The Batman under the direction of Reeves. Without giving any definitive statement prematurely, Roven stated:
“I have no feeling whatsoever except positive that Matt loves Ben and the work that he has done as Batman, and Ben thinks that Matt is a really terrific filmmaker. I have every expectation that they are going to make a movie together.”

There is obviously still room for something unforeseen to come up and prevent Affleck from reprising the role, but based on Roven’s statement such an outcome would not be something that anyone involved in making The Batman is hoping for. With any luck, Reeves and Affleck will join forces in time for the start of production in 2018.
Only time will tell how favorably things continue to come together in terms of pre-production on The Batman, but with any luck Affleck and Reeves will manage to come together to deliver the DCEU movie that they reportedly want to make with one another. In the meantime, here’s to hoping for the very best as things continue to develop behind the scenes of the latest soon-to-be comic book blockbuster from chief distributor Warner Bros. Pictures.

[h=1]Matt Reeves Confirms Ben Affleck Will Star in The Batman[/h]

Matt Reeves is just beginning to work on The Batman and has confirmed that Ben Affleck will star as the Dark Knight. Coming out of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck’s portrayal of Bruce Wayne was deemed one of the best parts. Safe to say, he was able to drastically change the perception fans had of him in the role after being discounted for his ability when he was first hired. It was thanks to his performance that audiences became increasingly excited for his standalone film — especially one that at the time he was scheduled to direct and write.
Things have since changed with Affleck focusing on simply starring in The Batman, with Matt Reeves stepping into the fold as director. Even with him involved, his task looked to be potentially daunting with rumors of Affleck wanting out of his new DC role. Thankfully for fans, the DCEU, and Reeves, no one has to worry about whether or not Affleck will star anymore.
In an interview with Getty, Reeves was asked about the status of The Batman and whether or not he would have Affleck’s talents at his disposal. He could not give away much in the way of details about the film as he says they are only just beginning — now that he’s completed War for the Planet of the Apes — but he was able to confirm Affleck’s involvement as the star.

“Yeah, right now that’s exactly what’s going on, for sure.”

This should put to rest any rumors of Affleck wanting out of the role moving forward. And now that Justice League is coming together and anticipation for that film is rising, it is hardly surprising to know for certain that Affleck will stay behind the cowl for the solo effort.
Losing Affleck would’ve been a huge blow to the DCEU, especially if Justice League is not only financially successful, but (more importantly?) is critically praised. The DCEU is in the midst of its first wave of overwhelming positivity following Wonder Woman‘s debut, so the less change going on behind the scenes, the better. Plus, Affleck is already considered by some to be the best live-action Batman, so keeping him around is paramount to the universe’s potential.
Reeves and Affleck will join forces early next year to start work on The Batman, prior to it likely debuting in theaters in 2019. They currently have over six months to finish developing the movie before cameras will roll, so even if Affleck has any further reservations about the part, this new duo will have time to make everyone involved confident.

[h=1]The Batman Features a ‘Detective Version’ of the Dark Knight[/h]

Previous Batman films have showcased the Caped Crusader as a superhero, but the upcoming movie, The Batman, will embrace the character’s detective side, according to director Matt Reeves.
Since Batman’s skill as a detective is one of the character’s most important attributes, it will likely please fans to hear that this aspect of the character will be adapted to the big screen, especially since it’s been overlooked to a certain exent in previous films. However, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Batman using his detective skills in the upcoming movie. Before it was announced in February that Matt Reeves would be replacing Ben Affleck as the director, Affleck made comments about his own ideas for the character. Affleck said the character would be presented as “the world’s greatest detective,” and made comparisons to the classic 1941 film noir drama, The Maltese Falcon.
In an interview with New Trailer Buzz about his latest film, War for the Planet of the Apes, Reeves spoke about his vision for Bruce Wayne in The Batman:

“I think there’s a chance to do an almost noir-driven, detective version of Batman that is point of view driven in a very, very powerful way that is hopefully going to connect you to what’s going inside of his head, and inside of his heart.”

Reeves also says that he sees a connection between Batman and Caesar from War for the Planet of the Apes. He called them both “tortured” characters who still try to do the right thing.
What Reeves’ remarks mean for the film is that the change in directors hasn’t significantly altered the portrayal of Bruce Wayne in The Batman, despite the rumor that the script is being rewritten from scratch to allow Reeves’ more creative freedom. From what we have heard so far, Reeves’ vision for the character hasn’t deviated much from Affleck’s.
The comments from Affleck and Reeves may lead fans to wonder how different this movie will be from other Batman films, and if we’ll get to see Batman channeling Humphrey Bogart to solve a mystery.
The Batman was originally expected to film in the spring of this year and to release in 2018, but Affleck’s decision to step down as director stalled the production process. After Reeves was hired, production was further delayed until 2018 to give Reeves more time to finish War for the Planet of the Apes. The Batman does not yet have a release date. The character can next be seen in Justice League.

Is Eiza Gonzalez Teasing A Role In The DCEU As Catwoman?

[h=1][/h]

Eiza Gonzalez has sparked speculation that she will be playing Catwoman in the DCEU, with the character expected to be in David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens, thanks to a social media post of the actress in a black catsuit. Gonzalez is currently appearing in Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, as the beautiful Darling – one of the many people after gifted getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort). Baby Driver is getting phenomenal reviews so far, and it may well be the vehicle that launches the relatively unknown Gonzalez to stardom, and to bigger franchise roles in the future.
One such possibility could even be a part in the DCEU, some fans are speculating. As the existing superhero cinematic universes continue to grow at a rapid rate, more and more actors are joining the world of live-action comics, so it’s entirely possible. And now, a social media post from the actress has led some to wonder if she could be taking on a very specific character in the near future

Gonzalez posted two stories to her Instagram today showing herself in a black catsuit and heels. One was captioned “The uniform lately,” while the other didn’t include any caption at all. Although the stories will disappear from the social media site soon, as they are designed to be temporary, one fan took screenshots in order to start a discussion about the possibility that she could be teasing a role as Catwoman in the DCEU.

The other Reddit users point out that Gonzalez has previously posted a photo of boxes of comics (captioned “a geek”), that she has visited the Warner Bros. lot, and that she and head of DC Films Geoff Johns follow each other on social media.
The outfit in question does look a lot like Catwoman’s usual style, and the character is also going to be appearing in the DCEU in the near future, as part of the in-development Gotham City Sirens movie (if not before). The film will see Margot Robbie reprise her role as Harley Quinn, but there has not yet been an official announcement about who will be taking on the roles of Catwoman and Poison Ivy.
Gonzalez may well be a good choice for the Catwoman role – she’s got the right look, some experience with action films (and playing the seductress), and it looks like Baby Driver is going to raise her profile significantly. Although she is not a very well-known actress, the DCEU did extremely well with casting Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman when she was similarly positioned, and Margot Robbie also only had a few major projects under her belt when she got the part of Harley Quinn. It seems that the DCEU is doing well with casting lesser-known women for big parts, so this might not be a deterrent in Gonzalez’s case. However, it’s important to remember that this is only fan speculation based on a very general Instagram post, and nothing has been confirmed by DC. Gonzalez could simply have been showing off her latest favorite outfit, which just happens to look a little like Catwoman’s, or the outfit could be from another project entirely.

[h=1]How Christopher Nolan Is Influencing Matt Reeves’ Batman[/h]

Matt Reeves has discussed how he is taking some pointers from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and use them as inspiration for his own take on the Caped Crusader, The Batman. Nolan’s three-part series (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises) was headlined by Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne, before Ben Affleck took on the role as part of the DC Extended Universe.
Affleck’s casting was initially met with criticisms but fans quickly rallied behind him after his debut in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While Affleck’s upcoming solo DCEU film is anticipated by a lot of fans, the project has gone through some big changes during pre-production – from Affleck stepping down as director to Reeves coming onboard and taking his place. Since then, Reeves has explained that his version of The Batman will explore Bruce Wayne’s detective skills and incorporate some Alfred Hitchcock elements into the mix – the specifics of which, remain under-wraps for now.
In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Reeves candidly shared what he thinks makes Nolan’s take on the superhero genre and the Caped Crusader character so impactful – something that he aspires to do with his own take on Batman:
“What I love that [Nolan] did was that he took the genre seriously. What studios are willing to make at the moment is a very, very narrow band of films. What I discovered is that this genre has the potential to be about something more. You can use the metaphors of the genre to talk about [a lot].”

Reeves also discussed how Nolan’s clear vision for his Dark Knight trilogy shines through in the final product – in spite of the tendency for big-budget projects to feel impersonal:
“I think the other thing that I really admire in what [Nolan] did was knowing what it is to make a big studio film, which often can fall into that sense of committee filmmaking where there’s an anonymity to the point of view of the film.”

Nolan’s Batman trilogy remains a touchstone for not just the superhero genre, but the movie industry as a whole. In some way, it revolutionized the way that comic book films are made by utilizing creative thematic elements to keep its narrative innovative and fresh. Countless films have tried to mine different aspects of the series (like its cinematography style and storytelling techniques), in an the hopes of creating a film that will have same kind of significant impact that The Dark Knight trilogy had on the movie-making business.
As mentioned, specific details regarding The Batman are still scarce to be found. There are multiple rumors about the possible Batman villains circulating online, along with speculation about the movie’s actual plot. Whatever it is that Reeves is cooking up, it seems that both fans and Warner Bros. are onboard with his Batman vision so far.

The Batman Director Has ‘Ideas’ For Trilogy Arc

Director Matt Reeves has thought about The Batman being the first film in a possible trilogy of solo Batman movies. Thanks to his impressive filmography, Reeves has emerged as a fan-favorite choice to take over at the helm of The Batman, after Ben Affleck unexpectedly left as director of the project several months ago. And following Affleck’s debut turn as The Dark Knight in last year’s Batman V Superman — which many critics and fans generally agreed was the best part of the critically-maligned film — there’s a hefty amount of anticipation and expectations surrounding The Batman right now, especially from those who were disappointed by Dawn of Justice.
Fortunately, it didn’t take long before Warner Bros. signed Reeves on as Affleck’s replacement after he orginally left as director, and ever since then, both Affleck and Reeves have been on the receiving end of a fairly consistent stream of The Batman-related questions.
With Reeves participating in the press tour for his latest film, War for the Planet of the Apes as well, those questions have only increased. So while recently speaking with Fandango, Reeves was asked about his overall vision for The Batman, and if he’s thought at all about the film possibly being just one installment in a possible trilogy of solo Batman films:

“I have ideas about an arc, but really, the important thing is just to start… you have to start with one. You know, you have to start with a story that begins something. And I would be lying if I could tell you that the arcs of Apes was already planned out, because it simply wasn’t; it’s one of those things where that character was so potent, and the possibility was embedded from the beginning, but exactly how you’ve got from A to Z is not something that existed.”

Reeves was also quick to add that when he originally was approached to direct 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, neither he nor the studio saw the film as being just the second installment in a fully-fledged trilogy:
“In fact, when I came in on Dawn, the story that I wanted to tell was different from the story that they had even presented me,” he said. “And so, there are these broad ideas, I think, that sort of came to mind as Rise was created, of how that story could be told, but they weren’t explicitly laid-out. And when Mark and I began Dawn, we knew what our goals were, but we didn’t know how we were gonna get there, and I would say that that more relates to the way that I see a Batman story, is a kind of ambition for a series of stories, but really the most important thing is gonna be to tell a vital first story.”

This is a logical route for Reeves to take when approaching The Batman when considering that he’s just now finishing his work on War for the Planet of the Apes, which is the final installment in what has turned out to be one of the best contemporary film trilogies. It’s also no surprise that Reeves was quick to stop himself from saying anything too concrete about his plans, since he’s only just now starting work on The Batman, and there’s no telling if he’ll even want to make more films in the franchise a couple years from now, when it’s finally released in theaters.
At the same time, Reeves hasn’t been afraid of teasing the overall tone or his ambitions for the film, saying previously that The Batman will be more like a detective noir than previous live-action outings have been, with inspiration being taken from the work of Alfred Hitchcock. That sounds tonally and conceptually different on almost every level than what Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy was, and in order for The Batman to truly succeed, it’ll have to not only work off of the example of what The Dark Knight did right with the character, but also find its own unique approach to bringing The Batman to life. Thankfully, it appears as though Reeves is well aware of what he needs to accomplish with this particular DCEU title.

[h=1]The Batman is Starting Again From The Beginning, Says Director[/h]

Matt Reeves is gearing up to begin work on The Batman, and it looks like he plans on starting from scratch. Reeves has been preoccupied with his latest film, War for the Planet of the Apes, which hits theaters this weekend, so he hasn’t had time to really dig into his upcoming DC Extended Universe movie — and that’s because he didn’t officially board the project until just a few months ago.
After making his debut as Batman in Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice last year, Ben Affleck signed on to write and direct his own standalone Batman film, which he was co-writing with DC Films head honcho Geoff Johns. Then, back in January, Affleck suddenly stepped down from his directing duties and left the director’s chair open for Reeves to step in. Despite rumors suggesting that Affleck will be recast as Batman following his appearance in Snyder’s Justice League later this year, he is scheduled to reprise his role in Reeves’ upcoming film, though it looks like the story that he wrote with Johns will no longer be used.
Reeves has continually stated that he hasn’t had any time to work on The Batman because he’s been busy finishing and promoting War for the Planet of the Apes. However, now that he has time, people have been wondering if he plans on retooling the script that Affleck and Johns wrote, or if he’s going to want to start from scratch and create his own story. It turns out, Reeves is going with the latter. In a recent chat on MTV‘s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Reeves revealed that he’s going to back to the beginning with The Batman.

“It’s a new story; it’s just starting again. I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be really cool.”

Interestingly, working off pre-written scripts and trying to adhere to an established formula is something that has become increasingly more common, and it’s not something that every director is comfortable with doing. Edgar Wright infamously left Ant-Man after working on the film for several years because Marvel Studios started tweaking the script without his involvement. So, it’s understandable for Reeves to want to start over from scratch, considering that his work on past films — namely, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apesestablished personal connections to the characters and stories.
Aside from the fact that Reeves is directing the movie and Affleck is starring in it, there’s not much we know about The Batman. Since the filmmaker plans on rewriting the story, that begs the question, what will become of Joe Manganiello, who was previously confirmed to be playing Deathstroke in the upcoming film? After all, Affleck even teased the supervillain last year. We should find out more about the movie as we get closer to Justice League later this year, and perhaps even during Warner Bros.’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
