2 days back i was in meeting with another company`s GM (multinational) when he offered me job out of blue, i refused it , he offered me TWICE of wat i m getting with other perks, but i maintained my position that i cant leave my company (local) at this stage since i m carrying big responsibilities in the time of company crisis and no one will be able to cope with it. He kept insisting , but i refused. In evening i got the call from his company regarding the offer, i told him that i will let him know, after an hour i called the GM and refused, he told me that salary is negotiable but i said u have already offered me twice which is good enough for me but i just cant.
In a nutshell below:
Reason I refuse:
- i feel v close to my director, i m one man show of my depart here, i didnt know how would i be able to face my director giving this news
- i am in comfort zone , here job was permanent
- the offered company`s job will be v hectic , job will not be permanent, i will be a nobody there
Turn of event:
- at night my friend called n ridiculed me for letting this offer down, my family verbally abuses me, i got convinced to some level
- next day i told this to director , and he reluctantly permitted me, but he was so hurt , and tried giving me counter offer, but i knew my company wouldnt be able to bear that much amount so i told him i m only availing this opportunity due to bigger platform

Dilemma:
i m having cold feet going to that company, and still thinking if i made the right choice

Pl give ur opinion , i will be certainly thankful

What's your field? So you accepted the new offer? Are you certain that your current job was permanent?

If I were you, I would've thought about it in a long-term manner ie, Given priority to my current PERMANENT job. Since your company is in crises, it could increase your salary when it's back on business, and you will be more respected this way. Aj Kal everything is facing crises.

Dont leave your present company bro, you'll live the rest of your life with this guilt if you leave these good people you've been with and tread into the "uncharted" greener pastures of the other company.

Your present company is in a crisis,so it's not decent to leave them in this hour of need, havent you heard the saying,a friend in need is a friend indeed.

FIrst of all. you shouldnt have mentioned it to ur current director. U should have taken annual leaves due to any critical reason and join the new company. See how u like it there? . IF it suits you. resign from old job and if it dont. then come back after leaves to ur current job.

Since now you have already metioned it to your boss. dont give resign yet. Ask him.that you would like to try and join the next job. if it suits you then resign if it not then talk to your current director that you are not happy here and would like to come back..

Your approach is very loyal with your company, but what about your career? I am also working with a multinational comp and pretty much satisfied but I am always looking for a new opportunity. Its not because that I am not loyal with my work, I love what I do here besides this I always ready to take challenges and want to explore new ways/world and desirous to meet new peoples to gain my experiences.
I don't know whats your nature but I would suggest you to go for the new offer and proof yourself. I belief on Allama Iqbal's these lines
"Mery pukhta iradey khud meri taqdeer badlain gay...... Meri qismat mohtaaj nahi haaton ki lakeero ki"
All the success bro (y)(y)

In a movie by the name of "Drag Me To Hell" the lead character of the movie refuses to give another chance to a loan defaulter for the sake of her promotion. That loan defaulter happens to be a poor old disease stricken lady, she requests the bank lady(herion of movie) very compassionately to give her a second chance but gets rejected, after which she puts a hex on the herion who's life turns to hell due to it.A lot of people take this as a movie but believe me i've been in situations like this and i know it's very dangerous to hurt others in difficult times.

Ur just an employee of the company and nothing else
Thinking that u have a responsibility to ur current company will hinder the progress of ur career

Take the higher paying job which is the obvious choice
U might be a nobody in that company but few years later u will be somebody in that company and have a higher pay to boot

Exactly my point! I made a switch 5 months ago where i was running the one man show just like, i felt sad too but the new job paid well. It all works out man, never feel sorry for things like these, you're a professional, remember that.

Enjoy your new job, permanency doesnt matter that much tbh aside from the perks that come along.

@OP Personally, I really do feel you did make the right choice.

Blastwave is right, follow exactly what your heart says and continue with what you feel would not make you regret the decision in the long term.

my heart says that i should remain with my current job where i do watever i like whenever i like, but my mind says that i m too young be settled for this (reiterating more than twice the salary wid perks)

Thats not blastwave! Two people are now using Blastwave's avatar. :p, Shahzad and Asad

BTW, OP! If you have not worked here for more than a year then how can you say that the job is permanent? Also, if the firm is in crisis, they may some day make you redundant so you should better opt for the double salary. Infact, the main reason for a job is to earn, so earn more if you can.
