[h=1]Supergirl: Mr. Mxyzptlk to Appear in Season 2[/h]

With the midseason finale of Supergirl, and the much-touted crossover appearances on The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow now in the rearview, it’s seeming more and more apparent that the show belongs on The CW. After a disappointing first year on CBS, in terms of ratings, the series has begun to find its legs and flourish in its second season among its DCTV peers.
While the first season of the series was arguably just as fun as the rest of producer Greg Berlanti’s DC series, there’s no denying that the show felt more than a little out of place on CBS. Under the banner of The CW, however, Supergirl has really begun to fly. Between the “Invasion!” crossover and the upcoming musical crossover with The Flash, the series has shown that it’s not afraid to have fun. As it turns out, fans are in for more fun than they were ever aware.
Comic Book is reporting that the mischievous and prank-playing fifth dimension imp, Mr. Mxyzptlk, will be appearing in Supergirl on two episodes when the series returns next year. While no one has been cast and no details have been given about when he’ll be appearing, The CW has apparently confirmed that we will, in fact, be seeing him soon.

Usually associated with Superman, Mr. Mxyzptlk is a magical creature who enjoys playing jokes with The Man of Steel in order to get under his skin. Of course, in his mind, a joke can be anything from gender-swapping the entire planet (turning Lois Lane into Louis Lane and Wonder Woman in Wonder Warrior) to, as in one particularly devastating story, Emperor Joker, Mr. Mxyzptlk gives the Clown Prince of Crime a small percentage of his power – which Joker uses to remake the universe in his own image.
Mostly, however, Mr. Mxyzptlk is a fun character that serves as a perfect foil for Superman, using magic to get under his skin and wreak a small amount of havoc in the process. He’s the perfect character for a brief appearance in The CW’s DC universe, with all sorts of potential for mischief and mayhem.

As Comic Book points out, the villain could be the impetus for the aforementioned musical crossover with The Flash. That sort of mischief is perfectly aligned with his character. He would find it hilarious that he forced superhumans to sing—not unlike the demon in the Buffy episode, “Once More With Feeling”—and that would be a good way to explain the scenario.
But with a character like Mr. Mxyzptlk, the possibilities are literally endless. It’s possible he might not even be the main antagonist, but rather an annoying distraction from a bigger enemy, as he so often is portrayed in the comic books. However, while usually he’s shown as merely a misguided prankster, he is occasionally portrayed as a darker, more sinister force. Given the overall lighthearted tone of Supergirl, however, it does feel like a safe bet that we’ll be seeing a more playful portrayal of Mr. Mxyzptlk.
Supergirl returns to The CW on Monday, January 16, 2017.

Mr. Mxyzptlk's appearance seems good, but how they use him is to be seen

they are saying he might be making his appearance in the musical crossover episode of flash and supergirl so that makes sense, mr mxyzptik would make supergril and barry sing together etc with his powers :)

[h=1]Supergirl: Jeremy Jordan Teases Big Episode After Crossover Event[/h]

The CW broke their own ratings records last week when they introduced an epic three-hour crossover event that tied together DCEU shows The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl. Though the crossover relied on Kara Zor-El’s super abilities, its events did not affect the Supergirl universe, and instead largely took place across The CW’s other three DC shows. This is because those three exist in the same fictional universe (the Arrowverse), whereas Supergirl lives in her own (Earth-CBS).
Although Supergirl‘s supporting characters weren’t directly involved in the action-packed Invasion! event, they certainly weren’t sitting pretty while Kara was off kicking alien butt. In a recent interview, actor Jeremy Jordan, who plays tech expert Winn on Supergirl, revealed that Team Kara kept plenty busy in their friend’s absence.
The latest edition of EW‘s Spoiler Room features a revelatory quote from Jordan, who teases an interesting return for the show. When asked whether Winn would feel upset at being left out of Kara’s otherworldly alien antics, Jordan enigmatically replied: “Winn doesn’t have a lot of time to be bummed out because of what happens in the episode after that.”

This ominous statement could mean a lot for Winn’s character in particular. When we last saw our favorite nerd, he had teamed up with former romantic rival James Olsen to engineer Guardian, Olsen’s vigilante superhero persona. Kara’s friends are still yet to tell her about Guardian’s true identity, which could mean some upcoming tension between the otherwise amiable trio. Perhaps even more interestingly, this quote could tease a return to Winn’s personal story, in which he struggles with being the son of villain Toyman. Could Toyman be coming back, and could Winn and co. be in danger?
Jeremy Jordan’s performance as Winn has undoubtedly been a bright spot in the show so far, as the former Broadway star brings a necessary level of charming awkwardness to Kara’s team dynamic. Though Winn had to suffer a short-lived romantic subplot with Kara (like every other male character on the show), his story has been pleasant and captivating. It would be even more interesting to see the writers continue to explore the emotional depth of Winn’s backstory, as the character struggles with his family of origin. That’s not to say that a continuation of the Guardian subplot won’t be compelling or necessary, but it could be all the more fascinating to see Guardian and Toyman face off.
No matter what the newest Supergirl brings, we can hardly wait for the show to return late next month. The most recent Supergirl, “Medusa,” left us with quite a few unanswered questions, and we’re itching for some resolutions. Until then, we’ll just have to re-binge season one.
Supergirl returns to The CW on Monday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. EST. The Flash airs in the same time slot on Tuesdays, Arrow on Wednesdays, and Legends of Tomorrow on Thursdays.

[h=1]Supergirl: Cat Grant May Return Short-Term in Spring[/h]

After a season on CBS, Supergirl was renewed for a second season on The CW, joining the network’s lineup of fellow DC-related shows. While viewers of the show were happy that Supergirl would live on, it did come with a cost. Switching networks meant new venues to film, which put the cast in a position of relocating to Canada to film alongside fellow CW shows. As this was not a clause in original contracts, some cast members debated leaving the show, one of which ended up being Calista Flockhart.
Flockhart’s Cat Grant found her way into the hearts of many viewers as she continued to push Supergirl to be the best she could be, but also was shown to support and care for Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist). Flockhart left the show at the beginning of season two, handing over control of CatCo to Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks). Well, her absence may not be forever as a new report points to ongoing negotiations to bring her back for another appearance this season.
The report comes courtesy of TV Line as part of their “Ask Ausiello” spoiler column hosted by Michael Ausiello in which a fan of the show asked when they would next see Cat Grant. Ausiello responded with the following:
Flockhart is not currently confirmed to appear in any additional season 2 episodes, but there’s talk of a short-term comeback in the spring.

While this is not confirmation that fans of the show will once again see Flockhart in the role this season, if talks are happening, there may be a good chance that something can be worked out. After all, any time an actor of a fan favorite character is interested in coming back in any capacity, the producers and writers can typically find a way to make it happen. And, since Flockhart parted with the show on good terms, it seems likely she would be willing to reprise her role as Cat Grant.
If she does return, it will be interesting to see how big of a role she has and for how long. Ausiello describes it as a “short-term comeback,” leaving it very much open to interpretation as for how long that could be. A single episode return to National City would certainly be the easiest way to make it happen, in which Cat comes back to check up on her company and evaluate how Olsen has done in command. However, she could also very well have a multiple episode comeback in the latter portion of the season. Only time will tell whether or not this happens, but many Supergirl viewers would welcome her back with open arms.
Supergirl will return with “Supergirl Lives,” a Kevin Smith-directed episode, on January 16, 2017.

[h=1]Supergirl: Livewire, Metallo & Other ‘Fan-Favorite’ Villains to Return[/h]

Supergirl season 2 has seen a number of changes thanks to the show shifting from CBS to The CW, as well as some that are simply a result of the show growing in its sophomore outing. Supergirl has most recently focused on CADMUS, the arrival of Mon-El (Chris Wood), and Alex Danvers’ (Chyler Leigh) coming out to her friends and family. But, with CADMUS now seemingly defeated in the fall finale of Supergirl, it remains to be seen who the Girl of Steel will face off against in the second half of season 2.
Well, a few familiar faces are returning to Supergirl, and if their past behavior is any indication, they’re going to be causing a few problems in National City.
According to TVLine, both Livewire and Metallo are set to return to Supergirl in 2017. Metallo, aka John Corben (Frederick Schmidt) previously appeared in the first two episodes of the second season, “The Adventures of Supergirl” and “The Last Children of Krypton”. Initially a normal human, Corben was captured by CADMUS, an anti-alien organization bent on destroying Supergirl. He was experimented on, turning him into the superpowered cyborg known as Metallo. Since Metallo gets his powers from Kryptonite, he was more than a match for both Supergirl and Superman. But, they eventually managed to stop him, as well as a second cyborg, with help from their friends.

Livewire, aka Leslie Willis (Brit Morgan) was one of the show’s first villains, introduced in the fourth episode of the series, aptly titled “Livewire”. A protege of Cat Grant, Leslie developed electricity-based powers after being struck by lightning. She targeted Cat, who she blamed for the lightning strike, and after being stopped by Supergirl, was imprisoned at the DEO. She made a second appearance later in the first season during “Worlds Finest”, a crossover with The Flash. This time, Livewire teamed up with Silver Banshee, and they again went after Cat Grant, as well as Supergirl.
Both returns are potentially earth shattering. Livewire constantly targeted Cat Grant, who has not been seen since “The Last Children of Krypton”. Considering the reappearance of Livewire, and the recent report that Calista Flockhart may reprise the role of Cat Grant again in season 2, their respective returns may coincide. Or, it’s possible Livewire has found a new target, perhaps something to do with her former ally Silver Banshee, who may return as well. Executive producer Ali Adler also told TVLine that other “fan-favorite” villains will be returning. So perhaps Livewire is only the tip of the iceberg.
As for Metallo, he was dead the last time we saw him, or at least he appeared to be. Perhaps, being a cyborg, he simply “shut down” and is able to “turn on” again. Or, maybe Cadmus has the ability to bring him back somehow, making them an even bigger threat than they have already proven to be.
Any other fan-favorite villains you’re interested in seeing return? Or theories about these two returning foes? Let us know in the comments.
Supergirl season 2 continues with ‘Supergirl Lives’ Monday January 23rd @8pm on The CW.

[h=1]Supergirl Season 2: Peter Gadiot Cast as Mister Mxyzptlk[/h]

As the second half of the second season of Supergirl quickly approaches, there has not been much discussion about the villains Kara will face. Obviously, there are the aliens who are after Mon-El – and while Cadmus just lost their leader, Lillian Luthor, to the justice system, that does not mean the organization is out of the picture. However, one upcoming villain has been getting a fair amount of attention: Mister Mxyzptlk.
Mister Mxyzptlk, an imp from the fifth dimension, is traditionally Superman’s problem. Not that his appearance on Supergirl is the first time that a story or bad guy from Superman’s comics has made its was onto his cousin’s show. Recently, Draaga appeared in the Supergirl episode ‘Survivors’ with a story similar to one straight from the comic book pages of Superman. So seeing Mister Mxyzptlk on Supergirl is not unexpected, in that respect – and now we know who is playing him.
According to Heroic Hollywood, Peter Gadiot is taking on the role of the playful trickster on Supergirl. Gadiot is probably best know for playing Cyrus the Genie on the short-lived spin-off Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. The actor has already been photographed on the Supergirl set too, as evidenced by the following photo tweeted out by Canadagraphs.
#Supergirl star Melissa Benoist & guest star Peter Gadiot as Mr. Mxyzptlk share a laugh between scenes yesterday. pic.twitter.com/OrrPnOaqiO
— Canadagraphs (@canadagraphs) January 6, 2017
Mister Mxyzptlk is generally a mischievous villain, one who plays pranks with no regard for who might be hurt when he does so. One time, he animated the Daily Planet building, when it was full of people; another time, he made a duplicate of Doomsday. Mxyzptlk is one of the most powerful bad guys who Superman faces, but is usually only interested in pranks and games. His powers seem magical, but really there are due to technology from his home in the fifth dimension that do not exist in the third dimension. He controls everything through his own willpower. However, he is also very easy to trick, which is key to defeating him. Any time he says his own name backwards, he has to go home for 90 days before returning to Earth.
Over the years, there have been times in the comic where Mister Mxyzptlk’s character grows more serious for a story or two, so which version of him we’ll be getting on Supergirl may just be a bit of a surprise. Either way, he should be pretty entertaining, as far as the show’s guest-star villains go.

[h=1]Supergirl Season 2: Parasite Confirmed to Return[/h]

Fans are impatiently waiting to return to the DCEU television world after a winter hiatus. The CW’s four DC shows approached their finales on a high note with crossover special Invasion!, so now it’s time to see what’s next for each standalone cast of characters. For Supergirl, that means a Kevin Smith-directed season 2.5 premiere, as the fanboy director tackles yet another DC title.
The midseason premiere will see Kara and Mon-El tackle a new world of foes, while Alex navigates dutiful sisterhood and her new relationship. After that, we can expect to see reappearances from a season 1 villain and some recent antagonists, plus the show’s much-anticipated musical crossover with The Flash. Beyond that, we don’t know too many specifics about the show’s upcoming episodes, but a recent report teases some key details.
In their weekly Spoiler Room report, EW confirmed that key season 2 villain Parasite will return for Supergirl Episode 13. Parasite/Rudy Jones, played by TV vet William Mapother, is an global warming activist who unfortunately has been infected by an alien parasite. The show introduced us to Parasite early in season two, in which he nearly kills J’onn and temporarily drains J’onn and Kara of their powers. That was the first time Supergirl got an assist from new hero Guardian, Winn and James’ secret vigilante project.

When Supergirl saw its midseason finale, Kara had yet to find out about her best friends’ new identity, but EW reveals that’s about to change – and Kara will have a big reaction. According to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg:
“I think that James was right to not tell her…He pretty accurately guessed her reaction to it, but what I think is interesting is while her reaction is explosive, it’s also one of out of concern and love. She loves James and Winn and when she does find out, she’s worried for her friends’ safety.”

William Mapother, left, as Rudy Jones in “Changing.”

Parasite’s reappearance around episode 13 of season 2 is especially interesting, since, according to rumor, that’s potentially when the musical crossover will occur. We already know that Kara and Barry will be battling Music Meister, who can (fittingly) manipulate people through song. What remains, then, is where exactly Parasite could fit into the musical arc. This news either means that the musical episode will not be Episode 13, or that Parasite is in for some interesting changes of his own. It’s also great to get confirmation that Kara will finally find out about Guardian sooner rather than later.
While a compelling aspect of Parasite is his ability to drain powers, let’s hope the villain is coming back for a meatier confrontation. The midseason premiere will already see Kara drained of her powers, marking the third time the show will integrate that into its plot. While a semi-mortal Kara certainly makes for a compelling watch, given her tenacity and Messiah complex, it would be a bit lazy to see the device come around for a fourth go before the second season’s end.
Fans are ecstatic to see this beloved show return, and Supergirl has been praised for its thoughtful and personal character-focused arcs. As long as the show manages to use its repeat villains in new and interesting ways, things should stay fresh for its sophomore season.
Supergirl season 2 returns with ‘Supergirl Lives’ Monday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.

[h=1]Supergirl/Flash Musical Casts Darren Criss as Music Meister[/h]

The CW has built up its DC Comics shared universe over the past few years to the point that it now includes four distinct series. Arrow kicked off the DC TV world, and acted as a launch pad for both The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. Meanwhile, Supergirl initially started off on CBS, before premiering its second season on The CW. Thanks to all four shows being on one network, The CW was able to unite its legion of superheroes for a massive crossover at the end of last year, loosely inspired by the DC Comics limited event series Invasion!
However, in addition to the four-show event, The CW also revealed plans last summer for a musical crossover between Supergirl and The Flash. More recently, the dates of the crossover – March 20 and 21 – were announced, while the villain was confirmed as Batman: The Brave and the Bold’s Music Meister. Now, a new report reveals who will be portraying the musical villain in the two-part crossover event.
TVLine is reporting Darren Criss has been cast as Music Meister to guest star in The Flash and Supergirl’s musical crossover. Criss is a fellow alum of Glee, on which he appeared with The Flash star Grant Gustin (Barry Allen) and Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist (Kara Danvers). Executive producer of both series Andrew Kreisberg said of the casting:

With our Flash and our Supergirl being Glee alums, how could we not have them go up against another Glee favorite like Darren Criss? We have been blown away by his talent over the years and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Music Meister.”

Criss’s musical abilities were first recognized among fans of Harry Potter thanks to his starring role as the Boy Who Lived in the fan production, A Very Potter Musical; he then reprised the role in both A Very Potter Sequel and A Very Potter Senior Year. His first television roles were on Little White Lie and Eastwick before later joining Glee and has additionally appeared on American Horror Story. Now, Criss will join the Arrowverse as Music Meister, a villain who is able to manipulate those around him through singing.
In addition to Criss, Benoist, and Gustin, The Flash and Supergirl crossover will se a number of Arrowverse stars flex their musical abilities, including Jesse L. Martin (Joe West), Jeremy Jordan (Winn Schott), Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon), Victor Garber (Professor Martin Stein), and John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn). Between Criss’s connection to Benoist and Gustin through Glee and the fact that Music Meister’s episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold is one of the most well-received musical episodes on television, fans are sure to be excited by this casting.
That said, many fans were hoping The CW would cast Neil Patrick Harris as Music Meister, since the actor voiced the character on Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Harris recently responded to the question of whether he would appear on The CW, saying he hadn’t been contacted about the role. Certainly, fans would have liked to see him portray Music Meister in live-action. But, Criss undoubtedly has the talent and experience to carry the role – and Glee fans will likely be excited to see another alum join The CW’s DC universe.

Supergirl
season 2 returns with ‘Supergirl Lives’ Monday January 23rd at 8pm on The CW. The Flash returns with ‘Borrowing Problems from the Future’ on Tuesday, January 24th at 8pm on The CW.

[h=1]Supergirl: Alex Will Go ‘Head-to-Head’ With Lillian Luthor[/h]

Supergirl is the newest show to join the Arrowverse line-up on The CW and they’ve wasted no time getting involved in the collective DC Comics Television universe. Beyond those DCTV connections, Supergirl has been determined to present itself as a show about people and their working lifestyles first and a superhero drama second, but that line is slowly beginning to blur.
One of the great additions in season two has been the inclusion of the legendary Luthor family, including Lionel (Ian Butcher), Lillian (Brenda Strong), Lena (Katie McGrath) and a younger version of the quintessential sworn enemy of all Kryptonians, Lex Luthor (Aidan Fink). Supergirl’s adoptive sister, Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), is about to face-off one on one with none other than the matron of evil herself, and director of Cadmus, Lillian Luthor.
A recent interview with EW, Chyler Leigh opened up about the future of her character, how she is dealing with the possible betrayal of her father and where this new path is going to lead her:

Well, she’s going to some dark places in the wake of learning her father is colluding with Cadmus. It’s hard because when they realize that there’s a deeper issue going on with Jeremiah, you don’t really know where his loyalties lie. When that’s questioned and Alex gets put in a position where she’s questioning it, it becomes this deep, dark intense realizing, her coming to grips with the fact that this isn’t in her control. Basically, Alex goes head-to-head with Lillian Luthor, so it’s a really powerful episode.”

Although Cadmus has been a concern for the cast of Supergirl for some time, the true dramatic importance here relates back to Kara and Alex’s father, Jeremiah Danvers (Dean Cain). The saga of Jeremiah has been unfolding since the pilot episode of the show, when we saw him, along with his wife Eliza (Helen Slater), welcome Kara as an adoptive daughter into their family.
Jeremiah, who was once thought dead, actually became what appeared to be an unwilling prisoner of the anti-alien hate group, Cadmus. Kara and Mon-El got captured by Cadmus and it was Jeremiah that set them free, although he chose to stay behind for unknown reasons. Those reasons became a lot more confusing during a recent episode where Kara discovered Jeremiah and set him free, only to learn that he was working with the organization. It’s entirely possible that Cadmus agreed to leave Kara alone if he helps them to progress their agenda, but firm details will surely be shed in the coming weeks.
Alex is going to have a lot of pain and confusion to work through when she meets with madame Luthor. The conflict is going to take place on the upcoming episode of the show, “Exodus“.
Supergirl airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
