Good news European Final Fantasy fans, Square Enix has announced the pre-order incentives for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, due to release on February 14, 2014 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

A few tidbits about Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII came from Japanese magazines this week. One important detail is time does stop in the game. Like The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII has an in-game clock and events change depending on the time of day.

The clock stops at certain points in the game. Time also stops when you’re in battle so you can take your time while selecting attacks.



Money will be easier to obtain in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII since enemies drop cash after you defeat them. Another tweak is Lightning recovers HP if she’s standing on the field and not doing anything. Sure, that consumes time, but the other options are potions that cost money, eating at restaurants or consuming precious EP which is probably better used to freeze time during a fight.

-The music composers that made the soundtrack for Final Fantasy XIII are back.

-In terms of gameplay, the temporal aspect of the game - the 13 day doomsday clock- is a determining factor. All gameplay elements are linked to this concept. The "Active Time Battle" system is now faster and more action-oriented.

-The developers are aware that the time limit can be stressful for players, but, they say that there are ways to maximize the clock up to 13 days instead of the original 7 days. Some quests have strict time limit. This is to motivate players to do their best.

-A source of inspiration for the game was the movie "In Time".

-There is no other sequel to after this. Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will complete the "XIII saga".

-Caius Ballad will return.

-Kitase and Toriyama are interested in making other outfits from previous Final Fantasy characters for Lightning.

-Trophies are easier to obtain in this game.

-Toriyama states, "Lightning is different, attractive, and will be massively appreciated by all fans!"

I hope they are are neat, as this game would need at least something to keep it afloat.

Isn't the gameplay inspired from X-2?

I'm pretty sure the gameplay will be the only good thing about this game. Everything else will be crap.

But considering gameplay is the most important aspect of a game, at least it'll be somewhat fun.

Also, one other problem I see with this trilogy is the linking b/w the three games in general is very very weak. There are no connections of themes or plot elements, which makes the trilogy seem very haphazard.

As previously reported, one of Lightning’s outfits in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is based on the Miqo’te race from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. We’ve only seen the costume in magazines up until now, but today, Square Enix shared a clearer image and screenshot via the game’s official website.

As detailed last night, putting the costume on will give Lightning a battle victory pose and sound effects from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Meanwhile, the Cloud Strife outfit based on Final Fantasy VII will do the same. We expect the same will be true of the Yuna costume from Final Fantasy X that Square Enix teased, too.
