So a friend sent me this link a while ago and I was wondering what opinion my fellow PGers held regarding this.

This is a complicated issue. Islam terms it as a major sin and completely forbids it. This is why it also forbids all things that might lead to such a situation (men and namehram women hanging out and stuff).

What do you guys think?

Here's the article:

Buying Condoms in Pakistan Is Hard | VICE United States

P.S. I'm under the impression that the punishment is a 5-year jail term. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Considering that we live in an Islamic country then of course it should be punishable by law. Just the way consuming alcohol will land you into jail, so should sex outside of marriage. There is no room for acts well past the boundaries of Islam in an Islamic state.

Pakistan should ditch this Islamic state stuff and become a secular Welfare type state. Then you could have sex outside of marriage too. Otherwise it's not gonna happen since the state's rules are based on Islam and Islam sayeth no.

How would you define the boundary here? Islam also disallows dating, no? Or you know, hanging out with girls and all that?

How do we decide where to draw the line?

Dank , Hamilton .

you just answered your question yourself , should we listen to masses of today or our prophet be wise please ,mostly you'll find liberals voting for it because they have no relation with their lord , or who follow democracy , only deen will stop such acts, such acts are forbidden not only in quran but the old and new testament , the ten commandments , punishment is stoning or administered by the sharia law , secondly state should not be involved in sharia law innovation , sharia is the final solution to end pre marital sex and fornication, because mostly our law enforcement people are involved in women smuggling they get their bribe from such to even millions of rupees and the acts continue in our society even if their's democracy .

Their should be consequences of immoral acts in an Islamic society.

Pakistan should ditch this Islamic state stuff and become a secular Welfare type state. Then you could have sex outside of marriage too. Otherwise it's not gonna happen since the state's rules are based on Islam and Islam sayeth no.
Pakistan was founded on Islamic principles; not secular principles.

Immorality is not good for human societies; it can be rather destructive.

That won't solve anything. Look at India and Bangladesh. It's how you run your state that brings better changes.

Also our Constitution is partially based on Islamic law. There's a mix of a lot of law here.

Well obviously hanging out with girls and screwing one are two totally different things. Very easy to draw the line here. Sex outside marriage is, should I say, 'intiha darjay ki ghatya baat' so it's not that difficult to outright make it punishable by law.

Yes, read the constitution and be glad you don't find naked women in the streets or drunkards everywhere.
