One can think of scenarios where a pre-marital affair might work out just as well as a successful marriage; for it's not at all impossible for a person to be happily committed long-term to a single partner without any present plans for marriage for any number of reasons. Or a number of a few short-term relationships that didn't work out before finding a right one. Such a relationship may involve sex without any personal or societal harm.

Then of course, there are scenarios on the contrary, as already noted by others in the discussion.

I do not think very highly of sex - marital or otherwise - for reasons other than ethical ones, but I am against the idea of outlawing it, owing to my simple belief that often times, we find ourselves seeking a general rule when it may not exist. More than 90% of this thread is people projecting their own predispositions regarding sex on a global scale. I remember reading on the news a story about a woman who actually enjoyed watching her husband have casual sex with other women and she asserted that the couple's relationship had only gotten stronger as a consequence, because she knew that at the end of the day, her husband only loved her. In this extraordinary case, even extra-marital sex seems acceptable.

No two different couples engaging in pre-marital sex need fall in exactly the same degree of immorality (if at all). In the discussion weighing down pros and cons, I found no con that is entirely unavoidable.

This high degree of variability, in my humble opinion, is something that a law won't justify.

If yes, then why? If no, then why? We have a lot of options for "no" like free will, privacy, mutual consensus, it's fun, etc. What we're pondering over are the reasons to "yes" and some answers are the fear of extinction, aging economies, anxiety infested youth leading to outsourced jobs, etc.

but as you say about countries not based on religion ban and punish consensual sex. well what i would like to say is yes cause we all know the rate of teenage pregnancies in those countries and abortions etc.... you'd be surprised how many cases of pre-marital pregnancies i have came across here in karachi...
but then again i wouldn't really blame the law allowing consensual sex for those matters cause in those same countries a few years back the rate of teenage pregnancies/abortions were much lower... cause even though it was allowed children were raised with proper values....

i blame the recent culture change for that effect.. children these days in those countries have changed too. the music industry has a huge hand in it but overall the media has provided too much exposure...

even in pakistan i hear little kids in grade 5-6 talking about their "girlfriends" with an iphone in one hand... there is an age for everything... but you know what i mean

they believe all meals should be prepared with love, dedication, certain hygiene standards and proper cook time, a research n documentary also indicates that Bolivia rejected McDonald’s because Bolivians have a significant cultural respect for their bodies, intentionally seeking locally-prepared cuisine they are confident was prepared to their set of standards. I think its also pertinent to look at bolivia from other aspects too ... its a secular country ... a country which is so possessive about their food n its affects on their bodies also has ur interesting topic of discussion ... law of consent ... n age of consent is fixed for both boys n girls as the age of puberty ... now they didnt give free pass without any punishment ... its not walk in the park for all reaching age of puberty ... their constitution included 3 laws ... sentencing different degrees of punishments for each kind of crime ... here is the extract for us all ...

Bolivia's MAS-controlled congress approved a law on October 22, 2010, which allows sexual relations from age 12 as long as the partners are no greater than three years apart in age, and there was no violence or intimidation involved.[2] The specific language of this section of the new law — proposed by the president of the lower chamber, Héctor Arce, to reform the Penal Code with the intent of protecting children and adolescents from sexual aggression — is intended to exempt younger children from punishments intended for older persons having sexual relations with minors.

If a women tries to buy it I am sure its a difficult thing for her, but for men it is very simple here in Pakistan, ring or no ring maintain a look on your face that is devoid of any humor and the shopkeeper will know better not to fuck around with you. If a women happens to be dating a man who can't pull out or can't be bothered to buy condoms then there's something awfully wrong with the woman to be dating such a looser.

I am not for pre-marital sex, those who are proponents of it might as well allow their daughters to do it right under their noses and that sort of freedom has its uses but not for me. This fucking issue of pre marital sex has led to many destroyed lives and will destroy your akhrat there no two ways about it in Islam.

... if u visualize the whole human history of social evolution ... primitive man had no social rules, laws of society and manners of sexual relations ... then he evolved from a mob of chimps to a tribe of human beings ... like his physical evolution, he evolved socially n developed his laws ... of personal privacy n legitimacy ... but for last few hundred years since he found Galapagos islands ... he has declined in morality ... n is abandoning all those centuries old laws n rules which man made during his evolutionary journey ... n is calling it PROGRESS ... who knows one day we devolve back to same ape ...
