Severe underperformance GTX 1080

Hello,

So, from what I've read, the GTX 1080 should be getting minimum 100 +fps on 1080p resolution.

But I am getting AVERAGE 60 fps on ultra settings on watch dogs 2 and Ghost recon wild lands. Witcher 3 also gives me around 60 to 70 fps. I think my gtx 1080 is severely under-performing. I heard throughout that gtx 1080 is an overkill for 1080p resolution, but now i am soo underwhelmed with the performance. Is it something wrong with the card or overall my pc build.

My rig is:
Intell core i7 3770k @3.5 Ghz (Cpu temps ar around 85 degrees when gaming)
8 Gb Ddr3 ram at 1333 Mhz
Intel Dh77eb MOBO
Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 gaming GPU(Updated drivers)
Windows 10 with latest update

In general, my 1080 has been a lot lower than expectations in all games but yeah, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is your vsync set to on in the in-game settings?

Your processor, rams are the problem, not the GPU.They are bottlenecking the GPU.

i also think so..specially the cpu..it runs very hot during gaming and i think causing thermal thortling. I am using a stock cooler. So should i upgrade my whole system like buy an new cpu, motherboard and ram (something like i7 6770k) or should i just buy a better cpu cooler and upgrade my ram to 16 GB..

If new cpu cooler is the option can any1 suggest me a good buget cooler (Liquid or air).

its not gpu issue its ur cpu overheating and dropping FPS to cool itself.

I just played a session of Ghost recon wild lands.. max temp my cpu got o was 85 degrees but mostly stayed at 79 to 81 range..my cpu utilization was also around 66% while my gpu utilization was 99%..I was getting 45 to 55 fps with everything utltra and resolution scaled upto 1.30 percent..My cpu clocks were also 3900 MHZ..

Again i ask, is this low for 1080 for its just normal with wildlands..Also Hyper Evo 212 Cooler Master is air cooler and my case doesnt have good vents and fans..i was thinking cooler master 120 lite liquid cooler..iev heard its good budget liquid cooler..

The problem is linked with your resolution you playing at and the CPU associated with it . on lower resolutions like 1080p for this card you are pushing the CPU to max . its a 3rd gen processor and you using with the latest gen of GPU . Nop . Not gonna happen . I am getting easily 100+ fps on 1080p on ultra settings in witcher 3

ur fps is correct there are things like supersampling and some other things which arent graphical settings they r more like downscaling higher resolution so yes those fps are correct in ghost warrior.

even if u run Metro Redux and make SMAA max u wont get 60fps .

i have gtx 1070 amp extreme and i tested both.

but if the games don't have those or you dont use them other settings the game wll go high fps without any issue.

i am now playing games on 4k with my gtx 1070 amp extreme around 40fps in all games turning off AA bcoz u dont need tht on 4k.

i dont think Intel core i7 3770k would bottleneck a GTX 1080 unless you are gaming on 4K resolution there is some malfunction in your operating system or system resources it may be taking up 100% of the cpu in the idle mode that is why you are getting critical temperatures and lags in gaming so 1st check out the culprit of your rig why the cpu is getting stressed

Download this and check the CPU clock when gaming. If it's spiking and going down a lot, it's because of throttling. Get a better CPU cooler

wat games are u playing.... if u are counting thigns like SMAA than they are like resolution enhancers and doesnt count as 1080p ULTRA

METRO REDUX with MAX SMAA is already hard to get 60fps Same for Ryse Son of Rome.

Wticher 3 remove hairworks i get like 75-80FPS with GTX 1070 on 1080p
