PTCL slow speeds

Hi,

around a week ago my Internet started facing massive slowdowns. Whereas I normally would get Downstream Line Rate in the range of 2400-3000 (on a 2MB package that was temporarily moved to 4 MB before the regular webpage confirmations), now I am getting anywhere between 300-600. around an hour a day, between 6-8 pm, I get downstream up to 1800 but then I face a disconnect after an hour or so and the rate drops back. Any ideas/suggestions?

So I registered a complaint and get called back. They basically want to switch me to a fiber line at the back end (it will still be copper to home) and change my landline number. They will also charge me for it. Should I go for it? Will it resolve the issue or should I stop using PTCL?

You have line issues and if those issues are because of the old media then yes you should go for ONU/MSAG(fiber optic), last mile will still be copper.

One thing I have noted is that when light goes and my DSL modem runs on UPS the downstream rate jumps from 400 to 1500.

I dont understand everything was working fine like for 5 years and suddenly line has become too old?

Line parameters increase when there is no electricity. No electricity = no interference.

Definitely line issue. Your attenuation will improve on ONU/MSAG and SNR should improve as well if the line issues were originating from the old media (old lines).

No, I'll suggest moving to ONU/MSAG.

Linesman came today and did something at the distribution point and my speed was restored to 4600 downstream and noise went up to around 9.6. An hour later though and it went back to 300-500

I just changed the lines and now it is Fiber optics. No issue of speed.
