4 years is a long time. Depending on how gaming goes, it might be possible to get away with it, but as things age, you can oc them to get equalent performance of the generation parts (i am talking about haswell due in 2014 not ivybridge). e.g. my i750 at 3.8Ghz performs about the same as my 2500K does at stock. Part of the difference is due to speed (2.66 vs 3.3 stock) and the other part architecture.
