PS3 Hack/Homebrew Discussion Thread *Read 1st Post*

OK have downloaded and tried a couple of games by using the Blackbox FTP (to tranfer the game folders) from the PC to internal harddisk of PS3 (internal hard disk upgraded myself from 40GB To 250GB).

However to my disappointment the following games are not working and I am reading stuff all over the internet which is confusing. Sounds like they are working but I don't know what is the exact way to make them work.

1. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 .
2. Prince of Persia : The forgotten sands.

Have copied the game extract folder to the internal HDD0/...../GAMEZ/GAMENAME folder. Tried running them via Backup Manager to load them game directory as a emulated Bluray disc, but the screen goes blank when they are launched. Any idea how to make these games work. PS3 is connected to the internet via Wireless.

I have noticed that almost with all the downloaded games there is also a PS3UPDATE folder, and the games which work, display messages that game update data is found. Till now I am not applying any updates since I dont know what effect they might have with the Jailbreak. Any information about this as well would be appreciated.

let me answer your doubts/questions one by one.
1- ~90% of all current ps3 games work (which means some don't work ;p). CoD2: Modern Warfare 2 is one of the few that don't work. before downloading a game, always take a look here for your game to know if it works or not ( www.psjcl.com )
2- make sure there's one original disc inside the ps3 at all times (before launching a game from BacupManager, this will ensure all the games that are reported to work perfect, they'll work on ur ps3 also).
3- whenever you copy a game to ps3 hdd, make sure there aren't any unnecessary 'wrapper' folders, for example hdd0/.../Gamez/GameName/PS3_GAME.SFB is right, and ur BM should detect the game, but hdd0/.../Gamez/UnnecessaryFolder/GameName/PS3_GAME.SFB is not right, as there's an extra folder in the hierarchy.
4- for now, the best strategy is, avoid ALL game update prompts. no need to isntall any game update, its the most easy way to avoid trouble.
5- if a game is giving black screen, make sure you delete all old savegames of that game, as well as any installed update data of that game, before trying it on BM.

This should solve many of your problems.

Dude... you just need any Blu Ray disc

its like you've got Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2, MGS4, King of Fighters , etc. saved on your HD

and suppose u just have an old Blu ray game (like SKATE) it just has to be in your BluRay Rom Drive....so that the PS3 thinks there's an actual Bluray game in the PS3.

that's what the Hack does to PS3... it makes the system hallucinate

Thank u guyz My hard disk is only 40 gb I have to buy a bigger hard disk & a usb dongle too.

@Karachi guyz, if anyone have contact no. of saddar electronic market (Bismillah, electrodeals, etc.) then plz send me bcoz I have to know the prices of usb dongle, upgrading internal hard disk & copying games.

couple of things..

where can i find reliable sites for 3.41 firmware upgrade?
can I use a .iso file to load from ps3 or should I extract all the game files?

mount iso file in pc and copy all files u can not play .iso file in ps3

why n0buddy working on removing the hack data from ps3 so we can go online after finishing all games otherthan we cant delete it completely bcause it leaves fingerprints on all over the ps3 ...... if no firmware updates of psgroove jailbreak usb came up in the near future than what we will d0 get banned and start to buy again the legits

copying games right now through ftp method..

1. Ok i will do it , I did check on PSJCL and some other website and got confusing answers (one which says that if I delete the UPDATE folder then it might run). I tried doing so as well, but it was in vain. So no luck for COD MW2 as of now. If you get a way to make it work please do post it here.

2. I know and I have an original game disc (Resident Evil 5) all the time in the PS3 drive.

3. I am already following a simple folder naming convention like /hdd0/.../GAMEZ/GameName

4. Did not install any of the updates till now. Only two games are not working COD MW2 and Prince of Persia.

5. Ok will try that, but I guess it wont work in my case, cause I replaced my PS3 harddisk with a new bigger harddisk and all the games I am trying to run are running for the very first time in this new HDD.

Anyways keep looking, this whole PS3 hacking scene is pretty new itself and would take some time to get matured. Thanks for the help.

so wat ways are there to transfer games from pc to ps3 internal hdd ? can we like attach a external hdd to the ps3 and copy games from external hdd to internal one ? that would be awesome ! also is there a way to connect our ps3 directly to pc via ethernet cable and copy data to there ?

manigamer yes u can transfer games from external usb hard disk to ps3 internal hd using open manager . and if file size is bigger then 4 gb there is a file splitter software it take 1 minute to split files and open manager automatically compile files and made original file . no need to use either net cable

i haven't yet tried copying games from internal hard drive with big files (over 4 GB) through open manager, i am curious about 1 thing... how can the open manager join the split file as the destination drive has to be fat32, which cant handle over 4gb..
e.g. I have Red Dead Redemption in my internal hd, which has 1 big file (approx 4.8gb), if i copy it to my external fat32 HD, how would it split and re-join the files ?

and i want hotfile or rapidshare links to Enslaved [PS3]

Yeah have downloaded and tried Price of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and it did not work. The same blank screen error, did not try the first installment of Price of Persia since I have already played and ended it.

There is no such thing as a modified PlayStation 3. If you want to use the PS3 Modchip then you'll need to ensure that your PS3 has firmware 3.41. I reckon you're buying a used PS3 so your chances of having an older firmware are high. If, however, the firmware is 3.50 or even 3.42 then just forget about the hack and play some good ol' legit games with online play. 8)
