It's just something that recently popped into my head, how much does a PC impact your bills?

Let's say I have a PC that draws 600W at max loads running for 10 hours a day, what would be the increment in my costs (at standard Wapda rates)?

600w is too much, normaly if u have a high end pc with 1080ti, maximum ur pc can draw power is 400-450w when you're gaming/doing stuff that takes max power from GPU.

Still for 600watt 10hours a day.
600w divided by 1000 equals to 0.6 kwatt, means 0.6 unit, multiplied by 10 (hours) equals to 6 units a day. Multiplied by 30 (days) equals 180 units per month.

For commercial rates, 23-25rs per unit (incl all taxes) it will increase ur bill upto 4500rs.
And for domestic, it depends, a unit for domestic ranges from 10-15rs. So if you take 15rs per unit, then 2700rs addition to your bill.

Hope it helped.

Would it be okay to run a PC through a 900W UPS? Not necessarily for long hours but for an hour or so.. or at times to make sure it gets shut down properly.

600Watts x 10 hrs/day x 30 days PM =6x30 KWH = 180 KWH
Cost Per KWH (Peak) =16.63 (Off Peak) = 9.30
GST = 17%
Neelam Jehlum Surcharge: Variable based on total bill
Other Surcharges: As per total bill (there are 3; incl. Fuel surcharge, TR surcharge and FC surcharge)

Yes it should be fine. The most important thing is the trip time, i.e the time it takes for the UPS to switch from main supply to it's own. It should be in milliseconds. Also make sure it's efficient, and does not explode on loads.

To calculate what sort of UPS you need, you can use this tool: https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

You can use ups, infact my PC is always connected to APC pure sine wave ups.

Make sure your ups has Pure sinewave technology, or atleast modulated sinewave (something like that).

Also the switching time is important as above person mentioned, normal domestic UPS's have bad switching time that will cause your PC to shutdown when light goes off.

I have a homage hex 1204 ups. I'm not sure if it's a pure sine wave UPS. But it has never given me issues while using my laptop. My ptcl router is connected to it as well and doesn't restart when WAPDA goes off so I think the switching time is good. What do you think?

It is modified sine wave, you should avoid using Your Pc with it.

Remember, when you are using this inverter with PC, only concern is when light goes off and power backup from battery is switched on. When it happens, try to finish your work asap and shut down your PC.

Normaly when there's light, you shouldnt worry about it coz your PC power is being supplied by electricity (wapda)

A normal PC idles 80% of the time and uses about 55 watts. Under load that rises to 80-110w. This includes the electricity consumed by the monitor.

Normal PC = no discrete graphics card.

If you do have a graphics card then that will consume more power but most of the time it's idle as well unless you are mining or gaming 24/7. You can buy a device like this from aliexpress to measure your power consumption so that you have hard facts.

So PCs don't consume a lot of electricity. That's a misconception that lay people have and I would not have expected it from PG members who should know better. A 600w PSU doesn't mean you are using 600w all the time. That number is simply the maximum power it can provide the PC's components.

You don't have to shut me down like that. :x
But I appreciate your answer. My power consumption is going to be higher than your regular PC anyway. I plan on running 2-3 workstations (eventually) so electricity costs do become an issue.

did you try setting up Google Payments? For UBL you may have to get it enabled for internet transactions, Naya should work without it!
