Nokia 5800 XM Problem

Hey Guys,

Just bought a new 5800 XM from United (Seal Packed) last week from Sadar, Singapore Plaza (RWP). I've been using the phone for almost 5 days. But yesterday all of a sudden it started saying "Instert Sim" and the phone would just lock off until I restarted it, and then again after 30 mins would say "Insert Sim" (Sim was inside the whole time). I took out the sim then cleaned it even and reinserted it and then same problem happened again.

Same thing went on for the entire day and I haven't had the problems for almost 36hrs now.

I'm using Ufone, so my question is that, is this a problem with my phone or the sim card?

Since my warranty hasn't even started yet (will start on 15th next month), if I go and cliam my warranty will they give me a new phone?

Also had minor problems like, battery dipping down from full to low in a matter of 10 seconds. etc. but that only happened once.

Looking forward to advice on this regarding the problem, wouldn't want to see 27k go to waste.

have you tired changing the sim & inserting other company's sim. See if it also gives the same warning while using other sim cards.

& Yes i dont think you will have to wait untill next month. Just go there & claim your warranty.

Yeah if the condition persist with other sim cards then go claim ur warranty dont wait for the date. And i m not sure that they'll give u a new phone.

i dont know abt united but once i had camera problem at d first week of purchase wid ma 3250xm dat i had bought from MZ . dey ddnt hav other fone so dey gave ma money baq. u shud go immediately den ur chances of gettin another fone are more

Thanks for the help guys. Okay I'll start by taking the phone to United first since the problem happened again today...and we'll see where it goes from there.

Alright no need to panic,i'm writing this post by using one...it's still a superb device and the problem doesn't lie with the phone since i know alot of people who own it and haven't had any issues.so all you just need to do is claim your set since from what it looks like it's most probably a problem regarding the unlocking of the phone since nokia doesn't officially launch it's devices here soon so most phones are imported and then unlocked after which they get warranty seals from distributors.just run nokia software updater...update the firmware,no it does not void warranty and then tell us what happens,update it even with a different sim if you have to.the new firmware is 21.0.025.even though this issue is unheard of and im hearing it for the first time it's worth to give it a go.i repeat warranty does not void via firmware update from nokia software updater and btw type *#0000# and tell me which firmware are you currently on? P.s im on ufone aswell.

The problem just happened again 3mins ago.

Yeah I guess that could be the problem, the unlocking. I'm quite frustrated because of this since I've never seen this before.

My "Software Version" is V 11.0.009 @ 25-01-2009

I'm going to get the warranty claimed by this Saturday hopefully. I'll explain the problem to them, if I get the problem again I won't restart the phone just take it to them as it is and show it.

Its indeed an awesome device, I've loved it so far but the disappointment caused due to the bad handset I got is definitely a pain.

Hi, i had the same problem with a Nokia E-65,error: insert sim card.... your phone has a sliding sim jacket, and this is a known problem with nokia sets which have sliding sim jacket..... i tried the nokia care center cause it was covered under warranty, but those f******g a*****h*** did not replace it, they tried to repair it 4-5 times and even they could not fix it... the simple solution is to insert a piece of paper behind the sim so that it fits snugly and does not slip....works great...

i would say sell it dont claim the warranty as if u claim the phone the will open your phone screws and this will fone price will be like stone so dont claim it on warranty sell it and by again from other place

So is the fone working fine now ? This happens with my dads E65 aswell. And as someone mentioned, all u gotta do is put a piece of paper over the sim so that it fits perfectly.

the Nokia care set replacement policy is that the set should not have be used more than 7 mins.... then it would be replaced under warranty otherwise they will repair it... and how do they know if it has been used for 7 mins or not... try punching in the code.. *#92702689#

    You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
