New 4K Gaming PC advice . 980ti SLI or ?......

Its the time i go with a fresh new build .

PGers your suggestions required on my setup . need to know which one shud i go for Money is not an issue but hey why not save a bit if we can. here is what i have gathered so far

CPU : Core i5 6600k > (Will be there any difference between Core i7 or should i got with 4th gen or even 5th?)

GPU : 2 X MSI 980ti SLI > (Yes SLI and ti . should i go for 980 SLI or single 980ti or dual 980 ?. i will be gaming on 2k resolution atm but might shift to 4k in a year or so)

Motherboard : Asus ROG Z170 Maximus VIII Ranger (Got no idea about Mobos . what you guys think about this one ?)

LCD : Asus PG278Q ROG Swift 27" G-SYNC 144Hz (Any reviews on this LCD ?)

PSU : Corsair 750 Watt HX750i Fully Modular (Will this be enough. currently have CX 600W . will only OC the CPU and not the cards)

CASE : Cooler Master HAF X V2 Gaming Case

I would go for a 6700k & 980ti SLI if you really want to go future proof . But but you should wait for Pascal benchmarks to come out before paying a lot for 980TIs . 6700k will perform much better in the games using too much CPU power, sometimes certain graphics options use a lot of resources like Advanced Graphics settings in GTA V & draw distance in titles like Arma3/Dying Light . Now i7 CPUs are being recommended in upcoming games specs , so CPU does matter now a lot .

i'd say go for i7 6700K, when you're spending tremendous amount of money on overall Rig. 980 Ti is extreme class graphics card so better be safe on enough cpu processing power. the extra threads will somehow help you in balancing rig's proformance.

980 Ti SLI would be luxurious scenario for 4K Gaming. add 16GB DDR4 system Memory. PSU is enough, already high end it is, HX series fame to deliver performance closely to AX series.

However, you can save huge amount of cash on GPU alternatives. 980 SLI will give you enough bucks on saving box. so in case you yo go with 980 SLI, you still good at 4K gaming.

thanks for the feedback. i will wait for pascal then and see how it goes. and yea i7 definitely seems the best option for this setup. will b getting 32gb of ddr4 ram as well

I have a system with Evga 980ti / i7 6700k / 16gb Hyper X Fury DDR4 Ram / MSI Z170i Gaming Pro Mobo. All connected to a 65inch Samsung UHD.

Almost all games run on 4K and deliver an FPS of 40+, some go 60+ (Battlefront). This is without any OC and running the processor at 4ghz. I can easily overclock to 4.4 through default msi app and manually go upto 4.6 on my Mobo. On an Asus Mobo, the 6700k overclock to 4.8. The OC on my system gives me a boost of about 5-10 FPS. If I overclock the GPU as well the numbers are higher.

However, to get consistent 60fps+ performance across the board on all games without OC I need to go SLi and for that need to move from an ITX Mobo to Matx one.

There are many videos showing frame rates with gtx 980 SLi which you can compare to 980ti single and Sli. Make sure you get an SSD and the fastest 980ti is the Asus Strix or Zotac Amp Extreme. They have the highest clock speeds out of the box.

Bro, cx is not a good psu, buy something solid, if you dont sli then 650w is BEST and more than enough, buy atleast gold rated supply like EVGA supernova B2, Rosewill Capstone, seasonic. And that is the worst motherboard ever, if you are tight on budget, drop to 16gb ram and z170 hero board, that is a sweet spot, also for gaming there is no need for hyperthreading, i have checked fps diff on these latest games with same gen and clock i5 and i7 and it was literally none. But i guess so are unbound by budget. And also build rest of the system while leaving gpu, leave it to pascal.

what's the estimate time for pascal gpu? wont their high emd gpus drop till the end of this yr lie every other series. thts a lonf wait. im thinking of getting a 120hz 1440p gaming monitor coz imo ot makes no sense to game at 4k with few things turned down and not maintaining 60fps

Do not cheap out on the PSU Jay, get something from this list depending on your wattage requirements.

Just buy 4k man, way more better experience and for that, their prices remiain the same usually when they come out till a year, look at 970, it is still retaining its value at 340$ and even after that 3.5gb gate.

Asus Z97 viii Hero
EVGA supernova 850 G2, comes with 10yr warranty, more than enough if you needed sli/cfx ever
Cooler master case 5 or corsair 760T/780T rather than this decade old ass case
Nvidia 980Ti , single for now, later upgrade to Pascal or Sli, if this can not fulfill 4k needs, (which i'm sure its gonna)
Gskill Ripjaws V 16gb or 32gb as you like.

for 60+fps with each and every option turned to the max u need sli as a bear minimum , yes some games might give u that with dialed down setings but 4k takes a lot of juice - a single ti might cover in some games but nearly chokes out on others .

yeah sli is the way to go for 4k all setings maxed out .

Yeah but starting with a single is no pain.......yeah 60+ is not possible but 45-50+ sure is and if it is not, he can add one always

as i said depends on what details he likes to see ..me its always max out every slider period .

but also depends on how optimized the game is .
