I know you all are thinking that he wants to go famous like all those but i bet you he's not that greedy.

You can go ahead and make a social website as per your motivation. do keep it, and go ahead.

Even if you may not suceed, you'd get great experience to get a better job in future.
if you know the basics of starting a project, i wish you luck.
you may need a bigger team if you are actually thinking of a social website...

just wondering?
Why not try and make forum for a start?
Trust me forums are fun.

ur absolutely right that facebook is already here..but i want to make something where students meet eachother..consult on studies..talk in groups..update their academic profile..challenge each other on topics..prepare debates..post their results..talk about best universities..add new freinds ...consult professionals..learn from others..i am thinking a lot on these things and other also but i need help..i cant do it alone!

There are lot of internet sites and forums for these some include codeproject,piazza,stackoverflow and many others . If you are trying to develop your OWN social network then a team of four to six members won't be enough and you have a good grip on asp.net,java,sql etc otherwise your website won't survive . My advice is that you concenterate on learning web languages instead of catching the bigger fish when u don't have the skills + resources . Pardon me if my comment seems kinda offensive to you but this is reality bro as i am the final year student of software engineering and i also wanted to make such things when i was at your age !!

None of the techies who became billionaires did it for the money, they did it for the fierce competition, people like bill gates, mark zuckerburg, Steve jobs had passion for what they did, and that's what drove success. Facebook also initially started out as a university only site, but now look where it is!

Also, EVERYONE who has an idea is discouraged and mocked, and they are not to blame. I'm pretty sure if you went to mark zuckerburg and told him when he was 13 that he's going to be the youngest billionaire ever, he'd laugh his arse off.

Also; To everyone nagging about the sheer potential, competition and market for such a thing. It DOES NOT MATTER. The thing is, a current best always gets replaced with a new best. Change is always warranted and accepted by the mass. much like how MySpace was replaced by Facebook and orkut.

Bill gates started his profession when there was NO mass market, EVERY single analyst said that there was no future for it, he had NO funding, his father chopped wood. Yet look where he made it.

This opinion does not try to encourage or discourage the OP, just states some evident facts which should be taken into account.

ur comments are right but..i want a group of people working with me to create something new and different and having the joy in making it..learning web designing is another great art to learn and will learn it in time but i need people who will disscuss ideas with me and not give up..i know reality and its harsh truth..also these days no one helps another..i dont really care if no one helps me ..i strive to make something new and improved even if i solo make it!
EvilGenius2 ur points are extremely helpful and correct but u are in final year of software eng and still u didnt say that u followed ur childhood ideas after even learning web languages..the disappointment is that if u had followed them and worked on ur ideas u would have also suggested to not give up and not care if ur small or big or going for bigger bait!!

16 ah I was close, I was thinking 14 ish, I probably had the same ideas as you when I was younger, I actually did start a few gaming websites and forums here and there too, didnt really stick to anyone of them though. Reality and life caught up soon enough.

Anyways I dont think anyone is trying to discourage you here, I guess we all just want to know what you are getting yourself into. And you keep asking other people to join you and throw some ideas around, well since you are the one who is starting this, I repeat do you have some ideas of your own ? Anything unique that you think you are gonna do with your website? Maybe if you post something and someone likes it, he/she will be more likely to cooperate with you instead of blindly agreeing to become your partner.

If u don't have your own idea then don't think about making one , don't rely on other people ideas , have your own idea then hire or make people join you , these days 2 things matter most to attract markets ,
1) thing is unique and optimised
2) runs great of mobile format with excellent features .
you can copy some ideas from those big social network sites , who doesn't copy little from big giants , look at twitter it came with something new n now we don't have any other popular site which has features like twitter , while u will find other websites which might can give same flavour of Facebook , just bring ur own idea , paper it down tear it write it again search ur idea on internet how unique it is , what people want search on the Internet what people are looking forward for features that social networking websites should have ? Read forums where people demand new features .

I dont see why you need another person to do this. If you have ideas, find a sponsor to pay for the webdesigner and have at it. Have you learned nothing from Social Network? Partnerships go bad when there's money involved, and the person you're looking forward to partner up with will probably be of Pakistani origin. I hear they're the most corrupt lot.

I first thought of making a gamers reputation site but that is another project..i want to focus on this one..it will take time and hard work ..another friend of mine that lives in the us says that its difficult to pull of but he suggests to restrict the social network to Pakistan only or asia..meaning making it only for pakistani ppl...i need a 2 -3 more people in my team to share ideas with..but i cant wait more i will strt my project with Sani soon..if some ppl want to join in then,,,we will just run them through what we have done so far!
