Are they better than Edifier X600? My question is more inclined to low bass frequencies produced.
Specs taken from official websites and as usual, edifier have a total non-sense attitude towards running their websites. Mixed specs on different sites.
Lets see.
Sony's woofer: 20W, 115mm or 4.5" and enclosure dimension are (WxHxD) 193×243×233 mm.
Edifier's woofer: 14W, 166mm or 6.5" and enclosure dimension are (WxHxD) 241x229x279 mm.
No idea as to why have such a huge enclosure for a 14W woofer only. Boomy bass looks to be the idea!.
Clearly, Edifier will provide much more bass but in the end is limited by the amp till 14W only. It's pretty much an evolution of x100's and x100's are no slouch either. So I am darn sure that x600 will produce good bass though are not the best one here.
Sound wise and design wise, Sony is a clear winner. Bass wise, it's pretty close as I haven't
really tested X600's so cant give an all-out judgement.
In overall sound production, you cant go wrong with Sony. Excellent speakers though with the drawbacks of full-range speaker systems. On the other hand, X600 speakers have a tweeter in it which is what I prefer!, but some genuine reviews I know of x600 are not in favor of it. As I said, bass is the dominant factor in x600. Mediocre sound quality but with Sony, you get best of the both worlds!.
Price wise, go with X600. They are mostly available second hand so they are good value. Don't really know the price of new one but if above 5000Rs., ignore them immediately!.
I have yet to feel any distortion when I turn the volume pretty high (through software as on speaker vol is set to max). Song tested was Crush by PVD feat. Second Sun.
Movies are so darn good, I am just speechless!. Loaded "The Matrix" and god damn!, the fight/action scenes are awesome!.
So, movies and songs are excellent but what about games?. Sadly, old games, like Bioshock need some tinkering with your sound card's equalizer (or global equalizer) to make them sound good because there is no treble at all. On the other hand, dialogues are excellent and big daddy's footsteps?... AMAZING!. Do note that this game runs in XP compatibility mode and uses stereo mix mode for sound reproduction/output.
This sure is a bang for buck 2.1 setup and I give it 8/10.
