I don't think sleep paralysis and lucid dreaming are synonymous.
I've tried to lucid dream lots of times. But the only times I managed it was when I wasn't even trying.
And it's an amazing experience. You can literally control your dreams and walk around consciously in your dreams and fly and shit. The first time it happened to me I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. (because the perpetuated idea that you can do anything you want in Heaven

Khair I have tried it and managed it half-successfully one or twice aswell.
If anyone wants to try it, there are many articles on the webisphere, but the basic idea is to lie flat on your back and close your eyes but don't move your eyes inside. Keep them fixed on a spot. And do not give in to any stimuli that your brain sends to the body i.e. random urge to itch or move an arm or a leg etc.
Because the theory is that the brain checks to see if your body is ready to be put into sleep and if you respond to the stimuli, it doesn't start the REM(early sleep).
But if you successfully manage it, the brain starts dreaming while you're still awake and then your imagination is the limit.
