Interstellar Teaser Trailer - Trailer Addict

Christopher Nolan’s upcoming sci-fi film Interstellar is definitely going to end up on a lot of people’s must-watch movies list for 2014. Nolan fans will want to see it because it’s the director’s first original feature since 2010′s Inception. Science enthusiasts will want to watch it because the story is based on the work of theoretical physicist Kip Thorne. And everyone else will want to see it because of Matthew McConaughey’s winning smile.

For the people who are still on the fence about checking it out, however, a new teaser trailer has arrived that offers a first look at what to expect from this ambitious new wormhole-travelling drama.

The original script for Interstellar was penned by the director’s brother, Jonathan Nolan, and later revised by Christopher Nolan in order to incorporate some of his own original ideas. The story takes place in a future where Earth’s climate has made it impossible to grow enough crops to sustain the population, and so a swell team of explorers are tasked with using a wormhole to find fresh land for cultivation.

i am a super sucker for scifi especially which involves interstellar or intergalactic travel and ofcourse space battles... that is why i am fan of babylon5/stargate/bsg etc(star trek sucks if you exclude the recent movies)...

but lets me honest... this is not a frakking teaser... there is nothing shown in it AT ALL... it get it that you need to hide something about the movie but atleast give us a slight glimpse of what it is all about:(

Nolan delivers it with best. Pretty amazing what he can do with emotional notes. Leaves audience with sheer intrigue.
And about Matthew McConaghey. He is becoming one of the few actors who can suit any role. Really impressed by the guy.
THIS IS GOING TO BE A 'MUST MUST' WATCH.

[h=1]‘Interstellar’: Matt Damon & David Gyasi Talk Christopher Nolan’s Sci-Fi Film[/h]

2014 looks to be a prestigious year for science-fiction cinema (or, if you would prefer, science-y movies), beginning with Alfonso Cuarón 3D envelope-pusher Gravity being likely to take home a handful of Oscars (maybe even the grand prize of Best Picture) at this year’s Academy Awards ceremony.

In the months that follow, Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister (The Dark Knight trilogy) will make his directorial debut with AI feature Transcendence, acclaimed indie filmmaker/special effects guru Gareth Edwards (Monsters) will attempt to bring real-world resonance back to the Godzilla franchise with his reboot – and finally, Christopher Nolan will journey to the stars with his new original project, Interstellar.

The cast for Interstellar – led by Matthew McConaughey (who may soon add “Academy Award-winner” to his name), Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine (of course) – speaks for itself, and counts Matt Damon among its supporting players. As you can see from the HitFix video above, Damon knows better than to spill secrets about Nolan’s latest mystery project, but that doesn’t mean he also holds back on praising his coworkers.

Damon was only present on the Iceland set for Interstellar for a couple weeks (during a four-month long shoot overall), so his role in the film – which revolves around a group of scientists and explorers pushing the boundaries of space travel – will be limited. He confirmed as much during a separate interview with MTV (via CBM), saying:

“All I can say is I don’t have a big part. I was just thrilled to work with Christopher Nolan and I had a blast working with him. I really had so much fun. Matthew he’s the lead in the movie… talk about being in the zone, he’s really just crushing everything right now and I think its just going to be great. I think it’s gonna be just another big, awesome Chris Nolan movie with awesome performances from Matthew and Anne.”

Far more interesting, however, is what Damon’s Interstellar costar David Gyasi (Cloud Atlas) had to say, during an interview with Red Carpet News TV where he offers some food-for-thought about the appeal of the film’s high-minded themes and provocative ideas, which concern wormholes, time-travel and discovering what else lies in the great beyond – in this case, space, the universe and everything else outside of Earth.

Here is what Gyasi has to say, on that subject:

“Human beings are adventurers, aren’t we, and that’s what were put on here to do… To go further and investigate and go beyond and I think space travel is… We had this massive push to get to the moon and it kind of stopped a little bit so… Maybe as filmmakers, everyone’s going ‘Come on guys, let’s keep going, let’s see what else is out there and see what else we can find,’ and it’s so vast. Years ago, it was this mad thing called the ocean that people were like ‘What lies beyond?’ and it’s like that [space] is now our next barrier. I think that’s where the fascination comes from.”

There’s often been a meta quality to Nolan’s work, when it comes to how the films’ characters push the limits of their imagination and endurance to achieve their goals (see: The Prestige, Inception, Dark Knight trilogy) – like the director behind them does, with clever editing and creative implementation of IMAX footage, among other tricks. We’ve seen evidence of that holding true for his and brother Jonathan Nolan’s Interstellar script, as well as with the cinematic techniques being used to realize it on the big screen (see: strapping IMAX cameras to learjets).

Gyasi, in that same interview, also points out that Chris Nolan sets his films “in worlds that are quite popularist [while being] rooted in something that is so meaningful, so human.”

Indeed, for example, when you look beyond all the spectacle and mind-bending concepts in Inception, that’s ultimately a movie about a man grieving for his deceased wife and wanting to move forward with his life; at the end of the day, one expects that Interstellar will have an equally solid human core, with grand sci-fi notions wrapped around it.

Interstellar opens in U.S. theaters on November 7th, 2014.

[h=1]‘Interstellar’: Matthew McConaughey on the Scope and Ambition of Nolan’s New Film[/h]

Matthew McConaughey has been our favorite redemption story since 2011, when he sprung back on the scene with the slow-burn thriller, The Lincoln Lawyer and then followed that up with a performance in Killer Joe that’s still burned into our brains. He’s continued turning in great work in unexpected places (Mud, Dallas Buyers Club), and that includes his recent TV work on HBO’s True Detective.

The actor’s run could soon include major awards; should that happen, unlike most others McConaughey won’t have to worry about the dreaded post-awards slump: when fall 2014 hits and the Oscars and Emmys are done, he will be in pretty safe hands headlining Christopher Nolan’s new sci-fi movie, Interstellar.

Like any Chris Nolan production, details on Interstellar have been pretty mysterious, and plenty scarce; not even the film’s teaser trailer was all that informative. Beyond an enigmatic voice-over from McConaughey explaining the movie’s thematic center, all we really even kind of know about Interstellar is that it will use the scientific theory of Einstein-Rosen bridges (aka “wormholes”) to tell the story of explorers who traverse further into the cosmos than ever before, presumably to find fertile land to replace the failing ecosystems of earth’s altered climate.

McConaugheyspoke to Variety about the upswing in his career, and like all actors who gain access to a Nolan production, he was extremely frugal with what he would say about Interstellar‘s plot, opting more toward selling Nolan’s filmmaking prowess and ambition:

Here’s what I can tell you. It’s the most ambitious thing he’s ever done. And he’s done some ambitious stuff.
He came up to me and said, ‘“Mud.” I love that movie.’ [Later] I sat down with him for about 2½ hours at his house. Not one word came up about “Interstellar.” I walked out not sure what to think. I mean, he’s not a guy who takes general meetings.
There’s no f***ing around on set. He’s a great problem solver. In that way, he’s very indie. Here’s a guy who could have whatever budget he wants — and we finished shooting early.

Aside from the details regarding Interstellar‘s plot – which, for once, I’m very happy NOT knowing in advanced – this film is actually an intriguing pairing happening at a pivotal time.

McConaughey, as stated, is in the prime stride of his acting career right now – primarily because he shied away from big headlining movie roles and/or blockbuster projects. Nolan is just coming off of a major franchise roller coaster (Dark Knight Trilogy) and is getting back into projects spun purely out of the Nolan Brothers imagination machine (basically his version of an “indie”). Are director and star meeting at that perfect middleground to deliver a grand blockbuster spectacle with the mind and soul of a classic sci-fi indie?

There are so many examples of how sci-fi and artistic cinema blend together into some great movie experiences (from 2001 to Gravity, and counting…). With Nolan, McConaughey, a cast that includes Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Anne Hathaway (Dark Knight Rises), Wes Bentley (American Beauty), Casey Affleck (Out of the Furnace), Michael Caine (TDKR), John Lithgow, Ellen Burtstyn and more – this could definitely be a contender for greatness.

…Now bring on those jaw-dropping visuals!

[h=1]Christopher Nolan Talks ‘Interstellar’ & Celluloid vs. Digital[/h]

Christopher Nolan movies have become something of a cinematic event in recent years; even when he’s not adapting Batman – as with Inception – his name is enough to draw audiences by the droves. After all, what other working director is known for making huge blockbuster movies shot on actual film with as many practical effects as possible?

The next movie on the Christopher Nolan docket is science fiction film Interstellar, of which we’ve only seen a teaser trailer. Nolan recently talked about the film – as well as his love of the theatrical experience and the superiority of celluloid over digital – at a lunch in his honor during Cinemacon.

Courtesy of THR and Variety, Nolan referred to Interstellar as a vehicle for “using interstellar travel to go to other places you couldn’t reach beyond normal space travel.” (Let’s hope that’s the titular line in the movie.) He also said:

“I grew up in an era that was a golden age of the blockbuster, when something we might call a family film could have universal appeal. That’s something I want to see again. In terms of the tone of [Interstellar[, it looks at where we are as a people and has a universality about human experience."

As previously stated, Nolan is a director who strives to use practical effects and on-location filming whenever possible. Of course, this isn't news to fans of The Dark Knight trilogy or Inception, the action scenes of which never felt burdened with an overabundance of CGI or green screen. Rather, they're quite beloved (in part) for their impressive stunt-work.

It should come as no surprise, then, that Nolan is employing similar tactics for Interstellar. According to THR, "[Nolan] built the interior of a space shuttle for some scenes, and placed actual images outside the windows so that the actors could see what their characters would see.”

Said Nolan:

“I want to capture as much in camera as possible. It’s a much higher quality than if you shoot on a green screen.”

Which isn’t to say that films that shoot with green screen can’t look amazing – Gravity proved that they very much can. But Alfonso Cuarón’s space-thriller was the rare sort of movie that got all of that stuff right: the CGI, the green screen, and the 3D.

But to Nolan’s point, when a large amount of CGI and green screen are usually employed in movies, it can be very apparent that you’re watching something that a computer put together. With Nolan’s films, it’s not.
Nolan went on to talk about the cast of Interstellar, which includes Academy Award winners Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine, and Ellen Burstyn, as well as Academy Award nominees Jessica Chastain and Casey Affleck (and other great actors who have neither been nominated for nor awarded an Oscar).

On McConaughey:

“[Mud] showed me a side of Matthew’s capabilities that I never knew was there. It was a transformative performance. From when I first saw it, I had an inside track on how great he could be. [...] I needed someone who is very much an everyman, someone the audience could experience the story with. He’s just a phenomenal, charismatic presence in the movie. His performance is shaping up to be extraordinary.”

As for Michael Caine:

“He comes so prepared and he is just so good with such a minimal effort. I cast him in every film just as an example to everyone else. He’s just a lovely guy to be around. He jokes that he’s my lucky charm. It was a very good strategy on his part.”

Finally, Nolan talked about movie technology and the continued superiority of celluloid (a topic he hasn’t shied away from in the past). Said Nolan:

“Film is the best way to capture an image and project that image. It just is, hands down. That’s based on my assessment of what I’m seeing as a filmmaker. As far as innovation and experimentation,

I’m in favor of any technological innovation, but it will always have to exceed what came before. None of the new technologies have done that.”

This is one of those arguments that I can see both sides of. While I generally agree with Nolan that film just looks better – more detailed, more beautiful, more tangible in appearance – I also can’t help but feel that some films were just meant to be digital. Michael Mann, Danny Boyle, David Fincher, and many more filmmakers have all used the digital format to incredible success, so it – like green screen and CGI – obviously has its place.

What say you, Screen Ranters? Do you prefer film to digital or vice versa? Are you looking forward to Interstellar?

[h=1]‘Interstellar’ Images & Details; Running Time Close to 3 Hours[/h]

The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan is making one giant leap out into space this fall with Interstellar, a sci-fi drama about a group of explorers who make the push into interstellar travel through a wormhole as Earth nears the stage of no longer being habitable. Led by Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), a man who is forced to leave his family behind as he embarks on the journey, the intrepid crew also includes Wes Bentley, Anne Hathaway and David Gyasi.

Interstellar is easily one of the most highly anticipated releases still to come this year, and with Nolan already having established himself as a strong player in the science fiction genre with 2010′s Inception, Interstellar could be the movie that solidifies his reputation as a gifted wrangler of high-minded sci-fi concepts.

It might also be the first Nolan movie to require an intermission at all screenings, as The Film Stage reports that Interstellar‘s running time is a staggering 169 minutes, making it Nolan’s longest film to date. The director may well need all that extra room, though; in an interview with Empire, Nolan described Interstellar as being “almost a mirror image of Inception. It expands out in the way Inception contracts inwards.” The November issue of Empire includes a more extended interview with Nolan, as well as several new stills from Interstellar that you can check out below.

The posters for Interstellar feature McConaughey and co. in a variety of different environments, including the drought-ridden desert of Earth, in the middle of an ocean, in a barren snow-covered wasteland and out in the far-flung reaches of space. Given the practicalities of (theorized) interstellar travel, it wouldn’t be surprising if Cooper comes back from his outer space adventures to find that more time has passed on Earth than he has personally experienced. Or perhaps he won’t get to come home at all.

Nolan seems to have taken a lot of care to keep the movie grounded by the story of Earth and, on a more personal level, Cooper’s family (Jessica Chastain and Casey Affleck are speculated to be playing older versions of his kids). Considering the explorers’ main motivation is to try and find a new home for humanity, it makes sense to maintain a strong reminder of what’s at stake for the individual characters, as well as for the species as a whole.
