Halo 2: Anniversary's campaign currently runs at 30fps – but 343 promises it'll be 60fps at launch





Halo 2: Anniversary's campaign doesn't currently run at 60fps, but 343 Industries promises that the full game will hit its 60fps target come its release in November.
The single-player demo, which VideoGamer.com went hands-on with earlier this month, appeared to run closer to 30fps than the targeted 60fps, despite the multiplayer build appearing to achieve a fluid 60fps frame rate.
"We will be running at 60fps when we ship," executive producer Dan Ayoub told us when quizzed over the campaign's current frame rate. "What we're showing is obviously still work in progress and we're still doing a lot of optimisation. Pretty much every game in the Collection will run at 60fps."

Part of the reason for the current performance issues may be linked to the engine powering Anniversary's campaign, which allows players to seamlessly switch between the original untouched graphics and remastered visuals at the touch of a button.
"[Halo 2: Anniversary's] engine is an evolution of the first Anniversary engine, which is basically two engines running at the same time and that's where we get the switch from," Ayoub added. "Essentially what we did was we took the original Halo Anniversary engine, modified that and upgraded it, and effectively what you've got there is both engines running in parallel and you're really just dictating which engine you see with that switch.... Halo 5 is using a brand new engine that's been created specifically for Halo 5."
It wasn't immediately clear from the demo how recent the playable single-player build may have been.

Maps that were once exclusive to the Windows PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 will appear in the HD anthology Halo: The Master Chief Collection when it launches for Xbox One on Nov.

Halo: Combat Evolved for PC and Macintosh released in 2003 and included six maps not available on the Xbox version: Timberland, Death Island, Gephyrophobia, Danger Canyon, Ice Fields and Infinity. Halo 2 was ported for use on the Windows Vista operating system in 2007 and it featured the maps District and Uplift.




Additionally, weapons that were left out of both games on console but included on their PC ports will be made available in The Master Chief Collection. These include the Fuel Rod Gun and the Flamethrower. Console fundamentalists will be able to filter out these weapons by choosing a "classic" weapon option during matchmaking.

The remastered version of Halo 2 in Halo: The Master Chief Collection will remain 100 percent true to the story of the original game, but 343 Industries will introduce a way to tie it to the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians.


GameSpot reports that 343 will do something similar to what it did in 2011's Halo: Anniversary, in which computer terminals found in-world unlocked comic panels that set up the story for 2012's Halo 4. ""Our terminals in Halo 2: Anniversary are going to focus on The Arbiter," executive producer Dan Ayoub told GameSpot. "You'll start to get an idea of his history and a little more about him."




Additionally, 343 has developed "bookend cinematics that are going to also start to tie into some of the things that are coming down the line in Halo 5," Ayoub said. These cinematics will also relate to Halo: Nightfall, the upcoming live-action digital series.


Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a next-generation remastering of all the numbered Halos — one through four —arriving Nov. 11. It's intended to be a virtuoso experience, though 53 minutes of Halo 2's in-game cinematics have been re-rendered and re-animated to take advantage of high-definition capabilities. But Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One will still preserve the multiplayer glitches seen in the titles on earlier consoles. For more, see our preview from E3 2014.

Who you are calling an idiot? I dont know what universe you live in, but none is better in any of these. This is not native 1080p.

If you have real life examples , please show me where it was implemented, or these are facts you make out of your ass?

Its difficult for XBO to go beyond 900p in most major games, let alone this game which is supposedly running some huge engines lol

DF actually found Ryse cleaner looking than a native 1080p game i.e. Forza 5. But thats just Crytek's wizardry I suppose.

Good example. Which plays well into the point I'm making. Higher res does not ensure removal of pixel crawling by itself. An AA method that complements your engine and art-style is critical to that. Resolution is just another piece of the puzzle and common sense dictates that more vertical pixels will do better to negate pixel crawling and aliasing issues than a setting with lower vertical pixels.

What AA method 343 chooses for H2A will decide if the game looks clean or not, more so than what resolution they've picked.

Halo 4 already looked pretty damn amazing. I think at 1080p/60 it will fit right into the PS4/XB1 generation. Might even look better than Killzone Shadow Fall.

This IGn preview from yesterday contains first-ever 60fps gameplay of Halo 4. I must admit I was a little stunned. Seems like lighting has received slight touch-ups. Or it's just been too long that I've played Halo 4 that it just looks really pleasing.

Might even look better than Killzone Shadow Fall.
Maybe in terms of art, but it's not even close on a technical level. Physically based rendering, screen space reflections, global illumination (not entirely real-time, but still), parallax occlusion mapping - Killzone Shadow Fall is doing much more.

Not taking anything away from Halo 4. Just like The Last of Us remastered, it's an amazing looking last-gen game, and it holds its own against many current-gen games at 1080p/60fps. But beyond that, expect big things from Halo 5.

How would you guys compare Halo's MP Vs Destiny's MP ?

I have every single Halo Game, but since i was a cheap gamer back then :p it was only Single Player experience on a Jtag 360.
