[h=1]‘Gotham’ Season 2: Michelle Veintimilla To Play the Villain Firefly[/h]

In the years to come, audiences will witness two Batmans (Batmen?) take the big screen. While Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman promises to introduce an older, seasoned, and more cynical hero, The LEGO Batman Movie will see Affleck’s self-loathing and raise him some satire. Meanwhile, on the small screen front, the Caped Crusader has barely learned to throw a punch – much less a batarang. And while Gotham has teased young Bruce Wayne’s transformation time and time again, the second season will focus on the transformation of his notorious rogues gallery, via the “Riseof the Villains.”
Both teasers and posters alike for the upcoming season have already highlighted this “rise.” Aside from Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) continuing his ascent to the underworld throne and Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) continuing his descent into madness, Gotham will introduce a new, misunderstood big bad. And just like last season, the show will once again employ multi-episodic arcs centered on other villains.

We’ve known for a while now that premature iterations of Clayface and Mad Hatter would figure into future episodes. And just recently, Jessica Lucas was cast as the villainess Tigress, lending the show some much needed girl power in the wake of Fish Mooney’s departure. Now, it seems Gotham only wants to add to said power, casting the traditionally male criminal Firefly as female.
According to an exclusive report from TVLine, relative newcomer Michelle Veintimilla (known for Lifetime’s Those Who Kill) will play the hotheaded pyromaniac – a.k.a. Bridgit Pike – in a two-episode arc airing late fall. Read the official character description released by FOX below:
“Enslaved by her brothers, a notorious gang of arsonists, Bridgit Pike is forced into the family business. When she catches the eye of Selina Kyle, the young Cat Woman and the soon-to-be-Firefly team up to put Bridgit’s firestarting skills to good use. But after a deadly encounter with the Pike Brothers, the meek Cinderella is transformed into a vengeful supervillain, hell bent on destroying those who have wronged her.”
Throughout comic book history, two versions of the infamous firestarter have existed. The first and most well-known – having been used in past animated series – is introduced as Garfield Lynns, a down-and-out visual effects expert who attempts to rob a theater by faking a fire. The second Firefly is Ted Carson, a lavishly rich gold mine heir who gambles away his family fortune and, as a result, turns to crime to continue his lifestyle. Both iterations have donned insulated battlesuits equipped with jet packs, flamethrowers, explosives, and other incendiary-related weaponry. That said, fans shouldn’t expect to see Bridgit fully decked out in a flame-proof, winged suit just yet. Hopefully, though, Gotham will work in creative nods to the signature costume until the character returns (assuming she will) in later seasons, more vengeful and destructive than before.

While the decision to deviate from canon and change Firefly’s gender most likely relates to creative direction on the writers’ part – and a desire to draw in a more female viewers – it can’t be overlooked that another current superhero program has already portrayed a version of Firefly: Arrow. The CW show featured the villain (the Garfield Lynns version) in season 1 as a former firefighter who was thought to have died on duty. However, he survived – albeit with horrific burns scaring his body – and became obsessed with revenge, targeting and murdering members of his old team. Gotham most likely wants to separate its incarnation of the foe from Arrow‘s – despite the latter committing suicide at the end of the episode – which helps explain the change.
Ultimately, the common thread amongst all personifications of Firefly is his/her intense, unyielding desire for revenge, an emotion often associated with the color red and burning imagery. As long as Gotham captures that essence of the character and develops her motivations authentically, fans shouldn’t be too up-in-arms that the show is playing with comic mythology – or fire.

[h=1]‘Gotham’: James Frain’s Character to Introduce ‘Famous DC Villain’?[/h]

Gotham season 2 is heating up quickly with its “Rise of the Villains” theme. The first season laid the groundwork for more well-recognized Batman and DC Comics villains to rush into Gotham City. The need for Batman is in its infancy, but the seeds planted last season are set to bloom in a major way. The official FOX synopsis of the season reads:
“The stakes are higher than ever as Gotham explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved Super Villains, including The Riddler, The Joker and Mr. Freeze, and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) uncovers more secrets from his father’s past.”

TV Guide spoke to Gotham executive producer Danny Cannon this week about a new evil force arriving in Gotham City. According to Cannon that evil force is Theo Galavan (James Frain), whom the producer teased will introduce the “origins of a very famous DC villain.”
The producer went on to describe the character in greater detail:
“Theo Galavan arrives in Gotham as a prodigal son returning, He comes from a very wealthy family with ancient roots in the building and foundation of Gotham. It takes a while for us to understand why he came back to Gotham and what his plan is, but it’s an insidious one, obviously. He’s a little bit like the Great Gatsby and Dracula coming to town with money and influence and charm and trying to bend to Gotham to serve him.”

Along with Theo will be his wicked sister Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas), also known as Tigress. Tigress has been in DC Comics as a villain since the 1930s, with the namesake being taken up by three different people. None of them were Tabitha Galavan, however, so unfortunately the history of the character won’t provide fans with any clues. Deadline describes Galavan as a “Billionaire industrialist” with a “centuries-old vendetta.”
The theories on exactly which DC Comics villain this Theo Galavan will eventually become have already begun flying. TV Guide seems to think that its Ra’s al Ghul, which is may be the obvious choice, considering his history with Batman and the character’s recent use in movies, cartoons, and television. The only reason that perhaps this may not be the case is the fact that he is already being utilized in a major way over on The CW’s Arrow, and Warner Bros. likes to avoid brand confusion. Besides, Gotham likes to blaze its own trail when it comes to characters and their origins, so nothing we know will necessarily help fans solve this riddle of riddles, save for watching the second season of the show.
There is another infamous immortal who plagues Batman’s world and is a possibility for the role: Vandal Savage. Savage has been a formidable supervillain to the DC Universe since his introduction in Green Lantern #10 in 1944. His history with Batman is legendary and he would certainly be a billionaire industrialist, a description that doesn’t fit Ra’s al Ghul quite as well. Although, we have long since known that Vandal Savage will appear in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow series, so that likely takes him out of the running. That is unless Warner Bros. intends to loosen the reins on some of its characters.
What do you think, will Theo be Ra’s Al Ghul, Vandal Savage, or another DC Comics baddie?
Gotham season 2 will premiere on September 21, 2015 on FOX.

Gotham Season 2 Image: Michael Chiklis Is Captain Barnes

Things are going to get shaken up for the Gotham City Police Department when season 2 of FOX’s Batman prequel Gotham premiere’s next month. The comic book origin story meets police procedural series will get some new blood on the force when Detective Gordon’s (Ben McKenzie) one-man war on the crime and corruption is joined by Captain Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis).

The casting was announced back in July, but now we have our first look at Chiklis in the role, and all appearances show a man who means business and is not to be taken lightly. Dressed sharp, wearing a serious vest and flanked by Gordon and his partner Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), Barnes stands before a table of guns in the GCPD precinct. While not much is known about the nature of the role, we do know that Captain Barnes starts out a hero to Gordon before possibly devolving into an enemy Gordon can’t handle.

Chiklis is set to make his debut on Gotham in the upcoming season’s fourth episode, entitled ‘Strike Force’ in a not-so-subtle allusion to the actor’s previous series, FX’s The Shield. This, of course, is neither Chiklis’s first time in the precinct nor his first time tackling the world of comics. Chiklis rose to fame as star of ABC’s The Commish in the ’90s before exploring the grittier side of police work as the rough-and-tumble Detective Vic Mackey on The Shield. He’s also known to comic book fans as The Thing from 2005’s Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The actor is clearly in familiar territory with his new role, and is sure to bring some new zest to Gotham.

New zest is something desperately needed for the FOX series, which earned big audience numbers during last year’s inaugural season, while leaving many seasoned Bat-fans with a bad taste in their mouths with its revisionist history and occasionally nonsensical plotlines. The series suffered from a lack of focus, never quite committing to its promising premise with enough zeal to win over its detractors (despite high points such as Robin Lord Taylor’s Penguin and Logue’s Detective Bullock). Of course, its big numbers last season may have had something to do with its Monday night scheduling, which saw little by the way of competition for the viewing audience. This season finds the show head to head with CBS’s Supergirl, which has the potential to split the audience.

Still, it would seem that FOX remains hopeful. The lack of movement for the time slot indicates faith in Gotham’s ability to draw a crowd, and the network is promising big things this season, including more Joker. Additionally, Chiklis will be joined this season by fellow newcomers Michelle Veintimilla as Firefly, James Frain as the villainous Theo Galavan, and Jessica Lucas as Tigress. More and more, Gotham is showing some serious promise as its second season approaches. If the show can find its footing, then it definitely has some solid ground upon which to build its mythos. Only time will tell, of course, but for now things are looking fairly good.

Gotham season 2 premieres Monday, September 21 at 8:00 PM ET/PT.

Gotham: Ben McKenzie Says No Batman Until the Show’s End

FOX’s Gotham is one of many superhero shows gracing the airwaves these days, but this Batman prequel series is missing one major element…Batman. The point of the series has always been to show the ascension of a young Bruce Wayne from violence to vigilante, with no appearance from the actual Bat – seeing as Bruce (David Mazouz) is currently a young teenager on the show.
However, thanks to one of the show’s stars, we now have a better idea of just when Bruce could don the cape and cowl in Gotham… and it turns out it might be as early as season two, no less!

The Gotham panel at Wizard World Chicago has had a lot of reveals, most of which centered around a new powerful foe (possibly Ra’s Al Ghul) coming to town for the “Rise of the Villains” theme of the second season. We did also get confirmation that Batman would someday appear on the series, which came in the form of a statement from the man that plays the soon to be Commissioner, James Gordon, actor Ben McKenzie:
“The last frame of the last shot of the last scene of the last episode of Gotham, whatever season that may be, is Bruce putting on that cape.”
Gotham has yet to be renewed for a third season, so when exactly the show will end and give us this big Batman reveal, no one knows.
The landscape of modern superhero television shows has changed significantly over the past few years. Viewers had to watch the Superman prequel series Smallville for ten years, waiting on the edge of their collective seats to relish that magical moment when Tom Welling would finally don the red cape and blue tights and realize his destiny as the Man of Steel. A recent change in DC series like Arrow, The Flash and now Supergirl puts fans right into the mix, costumes and all.

This old formula that Gotham is employing has become a rarity. Warner Bros. will allow the less popular heroes to get full-reveal television shows, but they appear to be keeping their biggest players, Batman and Superman, under tight control for the time being.
In all fairness to DC Comics, Marvel hasn’t done much different on network television, giving fans Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a show based on side characters from their feature films that showcases none of their major box office draws. Netflix, on the other hand, has the Daredevil series, which has become an instant hit amongst fans even though its eponymous hero didn’t get his proper costume until the end of the show’s first season.
What Gotham is doing, telling the full beginning of the Batman, is certainly an important gap to fill and one that is rarely fleshed out to this degree of detail. Gotham may hold off on the big Batman reveal until the series end, whenever that may be, but perhaps young Bruce’s continuing story will become all the more compelling in the episode ahead ( to help pass the time, so to speak).
Gotham season 2 premieres Monday, September 21 at 8:00 PM ET/PT.

New Gotham Promo: Change Is ‘In the Air’

The “Rise of the Villains” continues with an onslaught of new promos. In an effort to lure new and returning viewers back to the dangerous, Bat-less streets of Gotham, FOX has released a steady stream of promotional trailers and images focusing on the show’s linchpin: its villains – or,in the case of season 2, the coming of said villains.

While season 1 placed an emphasis on Gotham City’s elite organized crime – pitting Carmine Falcone against Sal Maroni – season 2 is primed to forego the principles of organization and order, and dive straight into chaos and psychosis. The previous season finale already set this transition in motion, as Oswald Cobblepot ascended to the underworld throne following Maroni’s death and Falcone’s exit, while Edward Nygma began his descent into madness.

As the above teaser showcases, though, change “is in the air” for the people of Gotham – change and tension fueled by a power struggle between those who would uphold the law and the agents of chaos. Such agents include previously established evildoers (Jerome/Joker) as well as new ones (Mad Hatter, Clayface, and Firefly). And at the center of it all is James Frain‘s mysterious Theo Galavan, a “billionaire industrialist” with a nefarious plan that could threaten Gotham like never before.

The trailer highlights this plan, with Galavan’s voice ominously setting the stage for a fiery battle: “Monsters are coming to cleanse this city in blood and fire.” The use of the word “cleanse” in connection with Gotham’s destruction should sound familiar to Batman fans, as it reflects the perverse ideology of none other than Ra’s al Ghul. In Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, the dangerous mogul sought to save Gotham from disease (i.e. corruption and villainy) by destroying it. Even in the previous season of Arrow – which used the villain as its big bad – Ra’s implements the destruction of Starling City to cleanse Oliver Queen of his past life.

In both instances, the villain sees the only means for rebirth is through death. And from what we know so far about Galavan and his hidden agenda for Gotham, it seems almost too similar to Nolan’s film (and Arrow) to be true. Nevertheless, if Gotham is already introducing Ra’s to its prequel world, Jim will definitely need help saving the city…from being “saved.”

Gotham season 2 will premiere Monday, September 21st on FOX.

Watched the episode, damn it was great, i'm excited for the next one.
Though it was shit quality, since it's a pre-air episode, and no 720p yet. Next week, when it airs on tv, then the good quality will be released.

Liking this new psycho Barbara, and we see a bit of dark side of Jim.

[h=1]Gotham Season 2: Robin Lord Taylor on Penguin’s New Competition[/h]

The first season of Fox’s Gotham introduced viewers to multiple DC Comics villains, including Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova), Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) and Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor). The show’s second season has been teased as “The Rise of the Villains” and will see multiple baddies from season 1 team up under the direction of new characters Theo and Tabitha Galavan, played by James Frain and Jessica Lucas.
When Season 2 kicks off, Oswald will be the reigning King of Gotham following the exits of powerful players Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni and Fish Mooney. However with change in the air, it remains to be seen if the Penguin can hold onto his power. Now, Taylor speaks about how the Galavans will upset the dynamic in Gotham.

In an interview with CBR, Taylor talked about Oswald’s talent for manipulating the players around Gotham, but adds that in Season 2 he will be confronted by events that he did not prepare for and that he may not be able to control. Of course, the new pieces on the board in Season 2 will be the Galavans, but when asked about how Oswald will interact with the siblings, Taylor remained vague:
“I can’t really get into specifics, but what I can say is – and it’s not just Oswald – Theo and Tabitha disrupt the entire power structure in Gotham. They make a big move in Season 2 that throws everyone off. They are very reminiscent of what Oswald did in the first season. It’s almost like Oswald is getting a taste of his own medicine. Someone comes in with an agenda that no one was expecting to see, and it just throws everyone off balance.”
Speaking to Oswald’s relationships established in Season 1, Taylor reiterated that his friendship with Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) is on the out, but the two will still maintain a working relationship. As for the unlikely camaraderie between Oswald and Nygma, Taylor teased that their relationship “grows” and “deepens” outside of the G.C.P.D. – though they remain adversarial.

Looking to the future for Oswald, Taylor said that he didn’t know if his character would ever interact with Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), but that “it’s only a matter of time before all these worlds come together.” As for the Penguin’s iconic weapon, Taylor was asked which incarnation of the villain’s umbrella he’d like to see in the series:
“This is where I don’t know if it was strictly a Tim Burton thing or if this was in the comics, but a helicopter umbrella, all the way. That’s so fantastic and so amazing and something necessarily for him because of his impediment. He also created so many enemies, so it would be a really amazing way to get around and not be as noticeable. You see Cobblepot walking down the street and you know exactly who it is because of his injury. For him to be able to use his tools to be able to work around that would be somewhat inspired and make a lot of sense for the character. Helicopter umbrella, all the way.”
Oswald’s umbrella first appeared in the series premiere of Gotham and throughout Season 1 – even receiving the honor of having an episode named after it – but fans have yet to see one of the comic character’s trick incarnations of the weapon. Whether that happens in Season 2 remains to be seen, but it seems Taylor would be just as excited to see the Penguin with a helicopter umbrella as fans of the character.

At this point, it seems Oswald’s position as the King of Gotham in Season 2 could be threatened by the Galavans, but their “big move” that Taylor refers to could mean many things. Perhaps it indicates their plan to unite the villains, as that will undoubtedly affect the city, or maybe it refers to one (or both) of the early deaths teased in the upcoming season.
No matter what the Galavans have planned, it will surely play into Gotham’s more serialized storyline in Season 2. The details of how Penguin will fit into that story, his relationships with Gordon and Nygma as well as whether or not fans will see a new incarnation of his umbrella remain to be seen when Season 2 premieres.

[h=1]Gotham Season 2 Maniax Trailer; Creator Teases Court of Owls[/h]

[This video & article contain SPOILERS for the Gotham season 2 premiere.]–
FOX’s Gotham television series has kicked off its second season with the episode “Damned If You Do” (read our recap/review). The episode, among other things, featured the introduction of Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas), also known as Tigress, and her brother, Theo Galavan (James Frain) – whose first act in a yet to be revealed master plan for stirring things up in Gotham City involved setting a pack of criminals – hand-picked from Arkham Asylum – on the loose.

The above trailer teases what that group of criminally-insane types – known as “The Maniax” – will be getting up to, over the course of the Gotham episodes ahead. The list of inmates turned loose include Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) – who may or may not be the future Joker – and Barbara Kean (Erin Richards), the ex-fiancee to newly-reinstated Gotham City Police Department officer James Gordon (Ben McKenzie). Comic book fans may’ve also noted that it was Richard Sionis, the uncle of the man who becomes Black Mask, who got cut down by Tigress in the Gotham season 2 premiere.
The Maniax will clearly be the main antagonist for at least the first half of Gotham season 2, as they’re shown in the above trailer doing everything from attacking a bus full of cheerleaders to invading the Gotham City Police headquarters; the influences of Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy is also apparent, as we see Jerome dressed as a police officer and making viral propaganda videos (a la Heath Ledger’s Joker). The video also hints at a possible steamy romantic relationship between Barbara and Tabitha.
Cameron Monaghan as Jerome on Gotham

In other Gotham news, ComicBook.com spoke to show runner Bruno Heller about the possibility of a Court of Owls connection to the new evil Galavan siblings, and he had the following to say on the subject:
“Yeah, absolutely, [I’m interested]. I won’t say that it’s part of – I don’t even want to say that, because I don’t want to spoil part of the story. The Court of Owls is deep, deep, deep Gotham mythology. The comic book fans know about it, but I would suspect the larger audience is not so familiar. We sometimes have to make a distinction between the ‘Nolan-era Batman movie fans’ and the comic book fans. It’s not that they’re two separate audiences, just that there are two levels of engagement. Court of Owls is very much deep DC mythology.”
Heller went on to elaborate:
“We are absolutely going to explore that world down the line. Looking at the longevity of the show, we have to hold some cards back, we can’t just throw all of the elements, all of the story at once. The Court of Owls is a brilliant conceit that will absolutely be part of our storytelling. I just won’t tell you when.”

Gotham executive producer John Stephens previously teased that the shadowy organization known as the Court of Owls may be influencing Wayne Enterprises on the show, in addition to having ties to the Gotham City mobster underworld. After Oswald Cobblepot’s (Robin Lord Taylor) power play in season 1, could it be that the new competition in town (read: the Galavans) is somehow connected to the Court of Owls, as part of the group’s bid to fully (and secretly) re-take control of the city?
The Gotham season 2 premiere also included a subplot where Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) finally gained access to the late Thomas Wayne’s underground vault, so it shouldn’t be long before viewers (and Bruce) find out what Bruce’s father had discovered about the insidious powers that be at Wayne Enterprises. If the Court of Owls is, in fact, pulling the strings on the organization and/or had something to do with the death of Bruce’s parents, then Bruce will need all the help he can get – including from one Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) – in his efforts to take them down.
Gotham returns with “Knock, Knock” next Monday at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.

[h=1]Gotham Season 2: Raul Castillo To Play Hitman Eduardo Flamingo[/h]

Season 1 of Fox’s DC Comics TV show, Gotham, largely revolved around Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) as he attempted to clean up the Gotham City Police Department and dealt with the city’s organized crime problem. However, season 2 has been branded The Rise of the Villains and already introduced the villainous Galavan siblings in its season premiere, ‘Damned If You Do.’
In addition to returning players like Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith), Theo and Tabitha Galavan (James Frain and Jessica Lucas) will be ushering in a new wave of villains on Gotham. Now, another DC Comics character will be joining the ranks of previously established villains partway through Season 2.

Variety is reporting that Raul Castillo (Looking) has been tapped to play the hitman Eduardo Flamingo and will first appear in episode 9 of Gotham’s second season. In the DC Comics, Flamingo is an emotionless killer who rarely misses his mark, and has a penchant for eating his victim’s faces after killing them. So, it should come as no surprise that in DC’s New 52, Flamingo is shown as an inmate at Arkham Asylum.
As evidenced in the Gotham premiere, returning villains Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) and Barbara Kean (Erin Richards) were hand-picked by Theo to make up The Maniax – a team made up of the criminally insane that will be a force to be reckoned with this season. Additionally, other villains set to debut in Season 2 include Firefly (Michelle Veintimilla), new character Joe Pike (Leo Fitzpatrick), Clayface and the Mad Hatter.
Raul Castillo (Looking) will play Eduardo Flamingo

It’s unclear how many details of Flamingo’s character from the comics will be included in Castillo’s portrayal of the villain on Gotham. The show has largely taken characters from the comics and added slight twists to add new dimensions while staying true to their comic book counterparts. That being said, it’s unlikely Flamingo’s pink motorcycle will appear on Gotham, though there may be some reference to the character’s original design in the costuming of the hitman.
As for how Flamingo will fit into season 2, he’ll surely be part of the show’s rise of the villains. Given the character’s history in the comics, he may be found in Arkham Asylum or, at the very least, may join up with The Maniax since he would likely fit right in. However, he may be introduced as a new player in Gotham, brought to the city by some other reason. Whether Flamingo sticks around for more than episode 9 or if he’ll be a one-off villain, though, remains to be seen.

Gotham
returns with ‘Knock, Knock’ next Monday @8pm on FOX.

Just episode 2....Wow....that was freaking intense. My favorite episode of the whole series. Only thing missing was penguin, but fuck Cameron Monaghan is killing it as the Joker/Jerome. Jerome was fucking awesome in this episode. He's the best joker i have seen yet. Yes, even better than Dark Knight one.
Spoiler: show
Commissioner Essen died :( She was a good woman, and i liked her helping Jim in S1, when everyone was against him.

According to preview, next episode will also be intense. :D This season is going epic so far!
