Earthquake

Guys my chair and everything in my room is swinging. Is it an earthquake? i have never witnessed any earthquake but i definitely think its an earthquake, i am from karachi. :crying:

Yeah, it's an earthquake. I see 7.9 on TV, but I don't know how bad that is because I haven't experienced one before.

I felt it too. Maybe it was a minor earthquake so.

I m also in khi,,,,,I was lying on my bed that suddenly I felt that someone is moving the bed,but there was no one! I thought It 's my weham,,,,,but again suddenly bed started moving, I jump off from the bed and asked my parents about it,but as per they,they didn't fell anything,,,,but I was sure it was earthquake and after turning the tv I came to know it was really a earthquake which came not only in pakistan, but also uae,india and iran also!

I was playing Vanquish and I just felt that my controller was vibrating after a few minutes almost everyone from my family rushed to my room telling me it was an earth quack. Thank God everyone is safe.

Yeah I felt it while sitting on my office chair.. It was felt as far away as the UAE o.o
Not very intense in lahore, felt like the 'jhoolay' I used to take in childhood

these TV idiots dont know jack about geology, 7.9 level means everything to ground total annihilation!!! what you felt was not above 5 I am sure else we would have heard many casualties by now.

that 7.9 level of earthquake was recorded at the place or origin.

Alhamdulillah everything is fine in karachi till recent news.

In Karachi, it was intense enough to feel you deze. Felt like I was going down to the ground......ALLAH Reham farmay aur sab ko apnay hifz o ama main rakhay. Center was in Iran, thinking what would happend there..

That is how it works. The Richter scale reading is from the epicentre. In the August 2006 earthquake, the reading was 8.6 or so and the epicentre was Azad Kashmir. That's the reason why there was so many casualties. Alhumdullilah the centre wasn't in Pakistan this time otherwise it could have been much worse.

I think the number on the richter scale doesn't correspond to destruction.. it really depends where the epicenter of the quake is i.e at what depth the tectonic plates are sliding over each other.. if it is shallow e.g 5km then it brings about massive destruction. However this quake was felt in the UAE, Iran, India etc so the epicenter was probably very deep.. 50-100km deep probably. Thus the high richter scale value and low effects..

That happened with me during the 2005 earthquake 8th october one.. still remember it clearly.. 3rd floor of my college and everything started shaking so badly. At first it seemed like someone was pushing my chair from behind.

Guys good to know that everyone is fine.i was outside the house after i posted the thread cuz everyone was screaming for me to get out.42 people died in Iran.It was recorded 7.9 in Iran and in Pakistan it was 5.1.it went as far as India.Try to do as much Astaghfar as possible.May the Almighty have mercy on us and forgives our sins which led to this type of disaster(it was a disaster in Iran).
