Aao PG members,

I just want to talk about a misconception.TBH I don't know I should call it a misconception or a status symbol.
Everyone who knows the spelling of word 'Photography ' wants to get a Dslr.Ok people have interest in photography but that doesn't mean dslr is the way to go.one should start with a basic point and shoot or one can buy a decent bridge cam (If He's That enthusiastic).
I've read forums here people saying we want a dslr but we don't know how to operate it we are beginers etc.
I've seen people who don't even know what dslr stands for carrying dslr in a fancy bag its just like saying I know how to swim but I want to dive in an ocean.IMO dslr is for those people who know technical terms related to photography.our youth who wants stylish bookeh in their DP's are ruining dslr's worth. In our society every Tom, Dick and harry wants a dslr.
Photography is an art Let it be an art

I want opinion from PG members what they think regarding this myth?

Note: These were my thoughts based on my own observation.anyone can disagree.

You can better pictures with a mobile phone camera compared to pictures most people take with a DSLR, if you have the expertise.

We went to a trip and one of my friends had a dslr, another had a mobile phone camera and I had a point and shoot camera. The pictures on the DSLR were the worst.

The only thing I envy in a DSLR is the ability to manually focus, which allows you to take much more crisp pictures.

Most teenagers use a DSLR just as status symbol and only a few have the ability to take good pictures with it. And those people would do almost as well with a normal camera too.

I understand that normal cameras have limitations but for most use cases a good point&shoot would suffice

For photography it depends upon your needs and you can modify your dslr with new lenses , flash ,manual settings etc

Such as
1:eek:ne needs to capture portraits with subject in focus(bookeh) choose prime lens

2: photograph moon= tele lens

3:photograph at wide angle less than 15mm is great

Near to me to own a dslr one should at-least know how to use it manually, light source , some photography

Else smartphones have limited capacity

I don't think there's any problem if someone wants/buys a DSLR. Even just for fun. What's the problem? Let them be. Yes, it's a trend. But thanks to the trend that me myself have become a photography enthusiast. And it indeed is a very fun hobby.

Bro dslr has tons of things fo like about.
End of the day It depends upon the person behind the lens.
crase24
Bro you are talking about different. Types of photography using different lenses that's not for beginners.
And yes that's my point dslr is for those who know how to utilize this fancy toy.

I'm glad this trend made you an enthusiastic but being a photography enthusiastic I do have a problem related to this myth.

DSLR is ur depend upon requirement. DSLR is not necessary for becoming a photographer. understanding of light, shadow, angle and vision (creativity) is necessary for becoming a photographer.
DSLR just offer tons of features that help making things more interesting.. Metering, Active focus points. flash compensation. aperture, shutter speed + long exposure, lenses etc etc..
although you need to learn these tools by spending some time on it.
idea + photography is just the half part. post production is very necessary to make it 100%. color correction etc.

There could be two things the one is willing to get into photography can afford dslr thats he directly went into buying and learning it
other reason can be he Needs a Manual control from variety of lenses and manual settings and wanna use raw images to work on that later
i am pretty sure no point and shoot can do that

Not everyone has the money to first buy a point and shoot, then move to a bridge camera and then a DSLR. You can always buy a DSLR, and then start learning how to use it. Use nae karo ge to farishte sikhaen ge use karna? When I got my D7100 I had no idea what any of the controls on it meant. But I learnt gradually.

I agree with OP on teenagers buying it as a status and showing it off on their DPs.Its gotten to a point where my friend was stressed that he hadn't changed his dp but he couldn't find a good picture of himself taken by a DSLR :| anyways, for me,I'm currently studying in Changchun,China .Its North of NorthKorea and the scenery here is spectacular .I got some good photos with the help of HDR on my nexus5 but nexus 5 is known for its poor camera quality with everything best.I got some great photos but it didn't cut it because I like to zoom into photos when it comes to scenic photos. That's why I was thinking to buy a DSLR (first I thought of an iPhone 6 as it could be handy and has better camera but i'm pretty certain a DSLR with the same price of the phone will take way better photos.) But having used the DSLR already for the last 2 years, had a one year gap where a DSLR was not available as it was my bros,I am confident I can handle the camera on manual but for me DSLR would be purely to get some beautiful photos of scenery ,sunrise, mountains and the seasons here .

PS: I'm not going for DSLR,going for a mirrorless instead to get better portability but ey it's not THAT different from the argument we are having here

DSLR is just a type of camera ... Photography is an art ... Professional photography is business n a job just like any other job.
Now if u start comparing teenage attitude with certain things, I'm sure everyone can quote tons of examples like pimping a 2005 civic n think I own a sports car or using a 1000$ iPhone for texting calls n social media ... Ur confusing showing off with need to create something ...
No PhD became a PhD without going to toddlers school, every 100 meter world record holder started by crawling on his hands n knees n Ansel Adams was also a noob n knew nothing about photography when he started it. So don't mix someone's urge to learn a trade or art with showing off.

Is it a bad trend or good? Well it's a lot better than having bad hobbies or bad habits, people do stupid things despite having a brilliant thing in their hands. You can either ignore them or help them learn something but criticising someone for being stupid makes it two of you ;)

Brother i respect your thoughts. I know its an art and i wrote a line that let it be an art.still i think our teenagers attitude towards this fancy toy is not positive.
I dont care what their attitude is towards other activities.this is just my observation and opinion your opinion can differ.

Lets keep it simple.

Cheers 😊

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!
