Hi everyone,
I recently got myself a 4Mbps download connection from PTCL installed, but my speeds hover in the range of ~2.5Mbps. Nothing has changed after repeated complaints. Is this speed typical for my connection or on the slower side?

i always get 460-500+kbps speed on my 4mb connection.. check your modem settings and check downstream . if its like 4000+ then u eill surely get the speed.. just search google for ptcl twitter and complain there.. believe me you will be entertained with pleasure and complain will be resolved .. dont go for exchanges or helpline, they suck ,they know nothing and are of no help at all..

Jaidy! Open your web browser, and type the URL of modem's setting. Its usually 192.168.1.1.

You'll have to check the "WAN Statistics" and let us know your line profile.
1. If Downstream is 4098 or higher, and Upstream is 1024 or higher ... then you have a 4Mbps line profile. In which case you should be getting the full 4Mbps speeds of 400KBps+ on your downloads. If you don't, then it means you are NOT shifted to a 4Mbps connection, and still running a 2Mbps (with just the 4Mbps line profile). In this case, lodge a complaint for Broadband through the MyPTCL portal.

2. If your downsteam and upstream is lower than that, then check the SNRMargin, and it should not be less than 10.0 or 12.0db. If it is, then it usually indicates a PSTN problem (public switched telephone network i.e. your telephone line). In which case, lodge a complaint for PSTN through the MyPTCL portal.

Also, if possible, kindly use this link and post a speed test result: speedtest.ptcl.net

ok I just checked again: Now the PTCL speedtest shows 3.4Mbps downlink. I have taken the screen shot, but dunno how to attach it here :s. The downstream shows 4096, and upstream 1024Kbps, SNR Margin is 21.6db downstream, and 11.0db upstream.

I am one of those unlucky ones who are stuck with ptcl because there is no other option in my city, and when there is a problem like that in ptcl there is literally nothing you can do. I am speaking from personal experience that the only way this problem will be fixed if those morons at ptcl somehow find an error in their system and fix it and how soon they finds it depends on your luck.

I was having upload speed issues and I complained and complained but they did nothing, always told me this problem is on your side and there is no problem at our end, speedtest is a tool that they use to put blame on users and that's it, I can guarantee that even with perfect speedtest results, there can be problems with the speed of an individual connection. My problem was solved after 6 months when I was about to terminate my connection, I don't know what happened, one day I woke up and that problem was gone, but now after 3 months that problem is back and I see no point in complaining, there is nothing that those retards will do for me. Maybe I will have to wait for another six months now.

So you will have to do the same I guess, just wait and if you have any other option, just leave this pathetic service.
