Dirt 2 has received its first reviews (console version)

IGN
Dirt 2 is prettier than its predecessor, has more varied tracks and a functional multiplayer offering. What it doesn’t have is a focus on pure time-trial rally races, which is really what I expect from a rally game. The other disciplines are fun to dabble in, but I’m old school and want a bit more tradition from a racing game. Dirt 2 is a solid racing game with some really fun events and a slick menu system, but it could use a little less of the arcade action and a bit more of the sim. I think the vast majority of racing fans are going to love what Dirt 2 has to offer, but there will be a few who long for the days when a hill climb was considered the ultimate racing experience.

I personally would have liked something similar to Colin McRae Rally 04. Didn't like the gameplay video I saw of Dirt 2.

Tried the demo. Quite challenging. The off road & dirt tracks look too good to be true. Cockpit views are really impressive. Overall, its not what Colin McRae games used to be but its a darn good racing video game.

nomad; you've got taste! finally someone else who agrees with me! colin mcrae 04 and 05 were the best racing games ever; spent too much time on both of them.

anyway, i played the demo. and like one of my friends pointed out; if you go out and look for a predecessor for colin mcrae 05 you're not gonna get it here. what you are gonna get is a fun racing game.

the demo is very good. i mean, yeah, the rally bit sucks. but it's fast and fun.

i'm gonna get it since i'm starved for racing games.

Will surely try it out as i never played previous Colin Rally and judging from the demo, the game is fun to play, awesome graphics and in-car view. :)

currently meracriticing at 88 for the ps3 and 89 for the x360 versions.

some reviews:

gamepro 5/5
There are so many courses, cars and race types in DiRT 2 that it's almost overwhelming to look at your world map. At one point I had almost 30 unlocked, un-played events just waiting to be tackled. It's a dense game with a lot to do, and you'll want to do it all.
eurogamer 8/10

Adding GRID's flashback feature allows the game to hit that sweet spot of accessibility without blunting its appeal, and allied to a plethora of consistently entertaining race disciplines and locations, it's an absorbing and technically accomplished experience from start to finish.
team xbox 92/100

Don’t be deterred by the subject matter if you think you don’t like racing games. Dirt 2 is charming, fun and exciting all rolled up into one big ball.
official xbox magazine 9/10

Probably the core of what makes this game such a blast is the handling. It’s not as scientific and demanding as Forza’s, nor is it as slap-happy loose as Need for Speeds of old, but it hits a nice sweet spot between real and fun.
it's coming out september 8th waisey.

i've gotten my copy preordered!

NFS noobs, Be Warned. The the gameplay is quite challenging. And it takes a few mins before you get used to the semi-sim controls. But all in all a worthy sequel to Dirt. Will surely be getting this since I haven't played a good racing game since Grid.

Gamespot Review
It's not details like these that make Dirt 2 such a superb racing game though. What makes Dirt 2 so special is the fact that its multiple difficulty levels and forgiving gameplay mechanics make it accessible to newcomers while offering a significant challenge for veterans of Codemasters' Colin McRae Rally series and other off-road racers. There's also the single-player mode that spans no fewer than 100 events (often comprising multiple races), a suite of multiplayer options that includes plenty of different modes and leaderboards, and, of course, your sweet RV, which fills with souvenirs from all of the locations that you race at as your career progresses. If you have even a passing interest in off-road racing, you won't regret a second spent behind the wheel of Dirt 2.
Score: 9.0 / 10

Sigh... DiRt 2 = DiRt 1 + slightly prettier graphics - hardcore rally racing

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm gonna be playing this for the sake of sticking to this franchise all this time, but they have made it more accessible to everyone rather than making it even better for the long term fans. Solid game, but nothing extraordinary to take it to the 'next' level, which is kinda disappointing.

Yeah they should have kept in the simulator element to the game. I really like the directional help from the partner in order to make the turns right(like in CM3 and CM4).

did you try setting up Google Payments? For UBL you may have to get it enabled for internet transactions, Naya should work without it!

Did y'all see the new Assassin's Creed trailer? They finally made a AC set in Japan & then they put a negro as the male protagonist. Ubisoft is taking cues from Disney, and it isn't gonna end well for them, just like Disney. Go woke, go broke!
