You fail to note the context in which those games were discussed. Destiny turned everyone's opinion on its head AFTER EVERYONE PLAYED IT. The games you mentioned were victims of hype and general next-gen anticipation. In other words, no one had played them when those discussions were active.
Perhaps I need to play the game to see there is something exceptional about gameplay that I am missing.

And wwhile we are at it, why are you still keeping the MasterCheif Sig, Its time to replace it with ur toon from Destiny :)

you got codes? I want one Please please please but for PS3

Pm me for further info

The production team at GOG.com found a secret message coded into the executable of the original Dungeon Keeper that hasn't seen the light of day in nearly 20 years, much to the delight of Jonty Barnes, Director of Production at Bungie.

Barnes stepped away from the Destiny war room late last night, on the first day of his new title's official beta, to tell Polygon how happy he was that someone had finally found it.

"That is my message," Barnes confirmed via direct message on Twitter. "17 years ago. I remember writing it but have not seen it since."

At 4 a.m. one day in June 1997, Barnes was putting the final touches on the classic Dungeon Keeper, a title on which he shared design credits with Peter Molyneux. Just before the master was sent off, he took a moment to stash these lines in the executable file.

I look around the office ... All I see are the tired pale faces of the [Dungeon] Keeper team.
After sixteen hours a day, 7 days a week, for nearly 5 months… this game has been written with a passion I am proud to be a part of. I do not just hope you like it, I also hope you are aware of the huge amount of work we have all done.

Dungeon Keeper was Molyneux's last project before he left to form Lionhead Studios. The game's documentation lists just slightly more than 100 people who worked on the game, a far cry from the nearly 500-person team Bungie used to bring Destiny to life at a reported cost of more than half a billion dollars.

[h=1][/h]

"It's funny," Barnes wrote to Polygon. "I'm feeling similar [sic] with Destiny. Both games have taken absolutely everything I have to give.

"Both I'm very proud to be part of. Both have changed my life."

The message, written by his younger self, ends not with a wish but with a kind of promise.

Sleep is due to me... And I have a dream to live.

This kind of electronic archeology is just the byproduct of GoG.com's mission to bring DRM-free games to the public. You can read more about their efforts to broaden their catalog and improve their service in our profile of the company Monday, part of Polygon's in-depth series on the Polish games industry.

Edit: Barnes points out that while the Dungeon Keeper manual lists over 100 people, the game was actually "95% done by 7 people above [Peter Molyneux's] garage."

Polygon's features team traveled to Poland in the first half of 2014. Our goal was not just to profile a single person or game. We wanted to go deeper.
Over two weeks we covered more than 300 miles. We visited some of the largest and oldest cities in Poland. We met with nearly two dozen teams, and spent time in the homes and workplaces of the individuals making games in the heartland of Central Europe.
This article is just the beginning.

Polygon's feature set, Polygon Goes To Poland, contains six feature stories and two short documentary films.

[h=2]Destiny doesn't have cross-platform play so last-gen players aren't at a disadvantage[/h]

Destiny doesn't support cross-platform multiplayer because Bungie didn't want players with more powerful consoles to have an advantage; When it comes to things like shooting, a difference in a pixel or two could making the playing field uneven, engineer Roger Wolfson told Digital Trends.

The decision to not let PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 players participate together and Xbox 360 and Xbox One players together goes back to the initial game design. Bungie determined how many players they want roaming each space, and from there balanced the experience so it translated well across all four consoles. The decision to do this is because Bungie wants to provide the same multiplayer experience for each machine.

"I'll speak for the hypothetical player," Wolfson said. "I have a disadvantage sniping across the map because [my opponent with a newer console] is only two pixels on my screen and I'm four pixels on his. You see that in the world of PC gaming, where people are always racing to the best video card to give themselves the advantage.

"Regardless of where the reality is, there's definitely a perception among gamers that better hardware means you have an advantage," he added. "We don't want to have to enter that fray, so to create the best, most level playing field, both actually and perceptually, we separated it by platform."

Destiny is currently in beta on PS3 and PS4, with an Xbox 360 and Xbox One beta on the way. The game will launch in full on Sept. 9.

so played on ps3 for like an hour or two..still on the story. While i feel the gameplay is a rehash of so many other titles its still decent enough. Lack of MMO type content is a downer. Havent experienced PvP yet

PVP is way better than PVE IMO. PVE can be a bit boring if there arent any team mates around. I know where I will be spending most of my time in the beta and full game.

Yep plaued it on PS3

It looks like Halo Reach at a tehnical level, art holds well, but it is a pretty gimped version tehnically.

Its a mix of so many games and lacks any sense of coherence.

Borderlands x Halo - serious edition

With poor mans Mass Effect citadel thrown into the mix.

[h=2]Destiny beta brings two new maps for a two-hour event running today only[/h]

A special event in the Destiny beta will be held today (Saturday, July 19) from 5 to 7 p.m. ET, Bungie announced in its weekly update. The event is called the "Iron Banner" and it includes two additional maps and a new gameplay type.

Iron Banner debuts Mars with the Blind Watch map, and returns Rusted Lands, a fan favorite from the alpha, to service. "Iron Banner is the only way to see these maps in the beta," said Bungie's Lars Bakken.

Additionally, Bungie confirmed that one's Guardian character is playable across both the current generation (PlayStation 4 or Xbox One) and past generation (PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360), within the same system.
Bungie's David Shaw said this was planned all along. "Our service is built with flexibility in mind," he said. "As a player of Destiny, you have a Bungie account that's bound to your PSN ID or your Xbox LIVE Gamertag, instead of a specific generation of device." That's only for character availability; cross-platform play of any type isn't supported.

Destiny's beta opened on Thursday on PS3 and PS4. It will begin Wednesday on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Both betas will run until July 28. For more, see footage from Polygon's livestream of the beta on its first day.

PvP is good but PvE is where they are concentrating more.

PvP is too busy with random stuff, ironic considering it is bungie, special weapons, heavy weapons, different levels, super charged abilities, throwing one hit knives and op vehicles. Haha

Huntrr class has this super ability 3 shot pistol , it remains active for 8 seconds, but once it is active you can blast noobs with single shots and tons of aim assists.

Speaking of vehicles they are basically 'pimp my ride' halo covenant vehicles. Interceptor is scarab tank and pike is that small land vehicle, and yes they are silly, like space tech vehicles with no roof to protect the driver. And we thought titans are silly.

One thing though, interceptor vehicle is beast, especialy when you apply boast, it sounds crazy awesome, like a spaniard bull that is going to murder you. Great vehicle and too op

Played the beta for 3 straight hours and loved it so far.... PvE which might seem a tad boring to many out there but a genuinely think that it has a lot to offer... PvP although I'm getting my ass kicked atm will I guess settle as I play a bit more of it...

I didnt had such high hopes for destiny even after playing alpha for a pretty short time but this beta version since I've given it alot of time as compared to alpha has completely changed what i initially thought of the game.. Surely this is going to hook me up for a fairly long time....

Here's a video I took from the last 10 minutes of the Last Array mission:

Lacking coherence in what way? And it's expected to share similarities with Halo, given how Bungie created both.

Player levels and weapon/armor loot are incentives for exploring the solo/PVE missions. They give you an advantage in 'Crucible', of course, but they aren't hard to get a hold of. I leveled up to lvl 8 in one sitting. Story missions give you a ridiculous amount of bonus XP.

Speaking of which, did anyone do the Devil's Lair mission? The one where you have to destroy the giant spider-like mech that's guarding the lair, and then get rid of the giant purple orb inside it. I managed to get through the entire thing with a 3-man strike team, and it was tons of fun! Probably took us an entire hour lol.

The game has one major flaw and that is randomness in almost everything. Ofcourse all can level up to max in days, but that will cause even more inconsistency by adding more and more abilities into the mix.

In all big games, there is certainity in gunplay, you shot 3 times in COD and the person dies , in BF shot three or two launchers into the back of vihicle and it goes down, in Halo 4 3 or 4 shots net you a kill.

Here we have this bullet sponge enemy, no matter how much you will play , you can never be certain that a person you are shooting is going to die if you hit him. I dont know if I am getting my point through but everything is this PvP is luck based and dependent on so many aspects besides shooting.

and BTW what is going on with the story? I fixed some arrays and signal beams again and again and I have a no fucking clue why I am doing this. Peter Dinkie is also wasted on one of the most stupid voiceover actings in history of gaming.

wow thats some good gun control over there..i cant aim for shit with a controller :(
If possible, try getting a hold of a dualshock 4. Much better analog sticks/grip that make aiming easier. I think it works as a wireless controller with the PS3 after the recent fw update.

Basically, there are artifacts scattered across Old Russia that carry meaningful information regarding mankind's past, and how humanity's downfall took place. As a Guardian, it's your job to uncover as much data as you can, so that you may eventually rebuild mankind's civilization. The Fallen, Hive etc. also seek the same information, in order to thwart such attempts.

In the Last Array mission, it is revealed that the Warmind AI that controls the array, Rasputin, is still alive and protecting something important in the Cosmodrome. We find out the the array is connecting to the other defense constructs for some unknown purpose.

You learn more about the story as you learn more about mankind's past. You're gradually discovering it as you make progress.

Why these videos are low res?

And I have noticed again you barely use grenades. Its a bungie game. Grenades are as essential as shooting lol
Facebook compression.

Also, you're right lol, I need to work on using grenades more often.

See this is not making any sense to me. Darkness is after Traveller (the white planet thingy), darkness came after the traveller and destroyed everything. Why we dont know our own past on our own planet?

Yeah, the traveler sacrificed itself to save what remained of mankind from the Darkness. This event is known as the Collapse. It now lingers above the city in a dormant state. But before its demise, the traveler created ghosts. These ghosts went around reviving certain humans who they saw fit for the role of Guardian.

Why we dont know our own past on our own planet?
The Guardians are basically dead individuals who don't remember anything from their previous lives. Or at least, that's what we're led to believe thus far.

Yeah i thought so the same as well but once i upgraded the weapon it got more and more consistent.... Yes this is alot different than BF or COD but at no point did it get frustrating for me....

I can second you on that.... WAY WAY better than the DS3 and alot of people would find it a par with the xbox controller if not better.... But it works on a wired connection only with the PS3....

Concerns about bullet-sponge enemies in pvp is absolutely wrong. In order to see how accurate and predictable the weapons in Destiny are, resort to watching a few minutes of Ninja's stream.

Twitch

See how a former Halo pro player plays it. Excellently utilizing his movement, jumps, slides, grenades, weapons and melee. I just watched him kill 3 guys with his semi-auto rifle. He landed 3 headshots on each person, without missing any, and got 3 consecutive kills. That's not randomness.

Aside from that, the sniper kills in 1 headshot (2 body). Fusion rifle kills in 1 close-range. Shotgun kill is 1 close range. Handcannon kills in 4 (maybe less with headshots). The issue is with auto rifles which have varying degrees of ROF. But then again, every autorifle is as predictable as COD. I've watched way too many on Ninja's stream to notice the killtimes on them. Land most of your shots on the head and you're sure to win the duel within 1 second. Land all on the body and your TTK will go close to 2 seconds.

The 3 supers all have their risk and rewards. Titan's hulk smash can only be done in close range. The Nova bomb is an extremely slow projectile and has a massive 'drop' after 15 feet, rendering it a risky move at long range. The Golden gun has massive vulnerability issues during activation. You must activate it carefully before entering a firefight or you'll waste it.

The game is definitely not as predictable as Halo. And lol @ bringing COD and BF into the discussion of even playing fields. In Destiny's MP, your level makes no difference as to the damage you deal and receive. A level 1 person can still land 3 headshots on a level 8 guy and get the kill. The person who utilizes his jumps, weapons, grenades, supers, vehicles, map awareness well will still win. There is definite randomness here, but not as much as to negate the efforts of an above-average player. As evident from Ninja's gameplay linked above, better dudes always win.
