Walmart canceling Destiny Ghost Edition pre-orders 'due to a supply issue'


Walmart is canceling pre-orders of the Ghost Edition of Destiny and replacing them with the cheaper Limited Edition, according to a post on NeoGAF.


A NeoGAF member posted what appears to be a screenshot of an email from Walmart to a customer who pre-ordered Destiny's Ghost Edition on PlayStation 4. The $149.99 package includes a replica of a Ghost (the player's companion robot), a letter of introduction from developer Bungie and "relics" from the Golden Age of Destiny's fiction.




"Unfortunately, due to a supply issue, we will be unable to fulfill [your order]," the email reads. "We would like to offer you a substitution with the Limited Edition, which is a comparable item."

Destiny's Limited Edition, which does not contain the aforementioned goodies but comes with everything else in the Ghost Edition, costs $99.99. According to the email from Walmart, customers who choose to substitute the Limited Edition for their Ghost Edition pre-order will receive a refund for the $50 difference within five business days. They can also choose to cancel their order outright, although they must do so on the Walmart website before Aug. 29.


Reached for comment, an Activision representative provided the following statement from Byron Beede, vice president of product management for Destiny: "The incredible demand for Ghost Edition has exceeded even our high expectations. We made as many as we could, and in collaboration with Bungie, we always wanted it to remain truly limited. Individual retailers have the best knowledge of whether any are still available at their store."


We've reached out to Walmart for more details on the retailer's supply of the Ghost Edition, and will update this article with any information we receive. Destiny is set for release Sept. 9 on PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One; Bungie is running a beta on all four platforms through Sunday night. i did and it just told me a objective... no directions... the MAP was vast and i couldn't even spawn my vehicle

^ Thats just weird coz the moment you pull up the ghost there is a fairly large blip that shows the direction of your objective....

How does destiny work exactly. There are random players running around the world when I'm on a mission. So they also see my objective? Can they run to it and take it before I do? What is their purpose in the mission I'm doing if they're not a part of my fire team

Impossible. As venom said, there's a massive blip that appears on your screen after pulling up the ghost, showing you were you need to go. Plus your radar on top-left also has a white arrow which points in the general direction of the objective.

In some cases, following such events, your buddies may think you're a pretty k00l gai who doesn't afraid of anything and invite you to their party. After which you might team up to take down a massive strike, do a story mission, or blast at other dudes in Multiplayer. Then you'll probably go back to the 'Tower' - The hub world to collect your rewards and earn new gear that will significantly influence the kind of player you want to become.

Lastly, I'd like to direct you to this video. It's easily the best introduction to someone who's trying to understand Destiny's overarching reason for existence.

but my question is for instance im on mission number 7 of the campaign and some guys who are on mission 13 add me to their squad, what happened to my own mission? is there a mission hierarchal system? do other players 'interfere' in your missions?

I think its gonna work like borderlands. The Fire Team leaders story progression will be followed by the two other party members.

You can play this game solo if you want, or play with a party and continue your own solo run in a separate game. You may have to repeat missions if your party leaders story progression is behind yours.

This is how borderlands worked, it will probably be the same for Destiny.

Btw once we are done with the missions - which if I am not mistaken are 5-6 mission - what are we supposed to do then? Bounties and other random stuff?

Took me a few mins to finish it off. Just keep fighting them hordes ... They'll drop the ghosts I fought around 2 3 hordes.

I too find exploration a bit odd in this game, due to lack of a map you aren't sure what areas you have covered and which ones still remain in the dark. Borderlands had maps as well along with purchasable maps for loot and special items. They should include maps... Gives you a scene of direction if you are exploring it.

Sure thing. Couldn't make it last night, but how about tonight? If you play between 2am and 6am, you get an in-game reward that you get to keep for the final game, so that's worth considering as well.

the ingame reward, would it be for the console u played it on or something else linked to ur psn account as a badge or something.... coz im playing it on the ps3 atm but i have no intention of playing the retail on the ps3 PS4 time coming soon hehe

Reward is just an emblem. Not worth staying all night for IMO. We get to play the 6th story mission on the moon though. Thats something.

ive downloaded beta on xbox one and when i launch it it says destiny needs an update and then "something went wrong with the update error occurs
