I just got a notice at my place from PTA saying that I have a Dect 6.0 phone and that it is illegal and that I should hand it over within the next 24 hours. I have a cord phone saying dect 6 and has removed it and a wireless pair set which says 2.4 Ghz. Anyone else facing this problem?

Also could anyone kindly explain what a Dect 6.0 phone is and how can I identify it? Is 2.4 Ghz? Will Dect 6 phones actually have it mentioned on them?

Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

wtf-- so u cant use a cordless phone in ur home ----why
long story short, these phones have the intercom facility and terrorists can exploit this as many cordless phones offer intercom with range more than a KM.
You can use a non DECT 6 phone, no problem

May it not be DECT 6.0 cordless, still its operating in the same frequency.

These phones are actually causing interference into the licensed bands of other operators. Subscribers of these operators (mobilink, ufone, telenor etc) have been lodging complaints to PTA. PTA in response conducts a monitoring survey of said area through FAB (Frequency Allocation Board) which concluded that some illegal / unauthorized cordless phone is operating in that area. After more careful analysis, they can identify exact location and user.

You may either stop using the said cordless phone or they may otherwise close your number. Once closed bcoz of this reason, it will not be restored unless you submit an Affidavit on stamp papers to PTA that you will never ever use unauthorized devices / sets on this landline.

Look ! Frequencies like 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100MHz are licensed bands of different operators meat for GSM, CDMA and HSPDA services. Thereafter, wifi routers are operating in between 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz. These operators have spent billions of rupees to acquire frequencies. Now if any cordless phone is interfering into these frequencies, the affected operators, their customers and and PTA would not allow it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but other countries also use similar frequencies for mobile networks, everyone there uses a Cordless phone... why it such a big issue here?

Would it be ok to use cordless if its range is limited within a house ?
It will be OK only as far as its not causing interference into any licensed frequency which belongs to some other operator. Suppose Ufone and Telenor have GSM frequencies 1800 and 1900MHz for their GMS band. A cordless of the same frequency would not cause interference to them. But some users in the same vicinity might be using Zong's 4G frequency which is perhaps 2100MHz. In this case, they will face interference. As a result thereof, Zong's customer will face quality of service issues, degradation in service, signal drop and call disconnection issues.

@murtaza12 :

No sir, causes of interference and solutions are almost same all over the world. Whenever an operator identifies that something is interfering into their network causing quality of service issues, the would approach the concerned regulatory body to get it identified and eliminate.

Then you can call them up and tell them fuck you, let them come file a suit of harassment etc. against the government.

I got a similar message too, but it said something to this effect "If you're using one then disconnect it otherwise we'll take legal action against you." I apparently don't own one.

All operators sent Text messages to all subscribers on the orders of PTA. It does not mean you are a DECT phone user. Its just a warning type message that IF you are using such phone, you may stop it. However, the OP has received a notice (most probably written notice) at his address. His case is different.
