Cathodes making GPU trip?

so i got these Lamptron cathodes from you know who, and the problem i am getting is when i switch them on, GPU dies (sort of).

got a his 4850 (running on CM 550w), which has 2 red lights on its board (some sort of indicators). when i switch ON the cathodes, one of the red light turns on and the display disappears. so i restart the PC to get the display back.

what is going on? seems like a voltage spike from the inverter of the cathodes thats interfering the GPU's power supply.

any suggestions/solution?

i think 1 LED indicates problem with the GPU...and the other problem with the power.

the one that is lighting is for the power.

however, power is enough. have a 550w PSU, whereas after calculating (from the below link), recommended is 390w.

Ok, it only happens if you try to turn them on/off from switch?

It only happens when i turn ON the cathodes using the switch. Nothing happens when switching it OFF. Btw..i removed the switch and tried turning ON the cathodes manually by touching wires, but same problem.

i think the inverter when turning ON makes the gpu assume there is less power, which is why it kind of switches off itself. dont know what else could it be....but i DO need a solution.

hmmmm....this is the first of its kind. never heard anything like this happen before. are you sure that the wires are not shorting anywhere? like touching metal or something?

^nopes. everything is cleanly wired. no possibility of shorting wires.

Just a hunch: I think one of the rails on your PSU is getting overloaded. Try hooking up the cathodes with some other molex connector from the PSU and check.

i thought of this too earlier...but on this rail, there is only the front 200mm fan.

in the image below, u can see the rail (with the blue line) that i am using for the 200mm fan and cathodes. only one molex is being used and others are free.

ok y dont u try this...if u have a dvd rom...unplug it...if u have a second HDD...unplug that too...n then try the cathodes...

D1602. i know it has to do something with the power.

Your best bet right now would be to connect the system with another PSU and check.

but just to let you know, the previous inverter i had (when it was working) of Logisys worked for couple of years and never gave this problem. i had the same PSU and hardware.

i ordered a white pair and a uv pair (plus 3 xigma fans). u must have received msg from Omran informing you about one of the inverters being burnt up. well, he was texting on my behalf.

As for the inverter that is working, it is giving the GPU problem. but as long as i dont touch with switch, all is fine.

try to bring someone psu and try using it on ur pc is the only solution that will tell you the solution

this is a power issue.
but at the same time...i think there is a problem with the cathoe switch....
u hve to change that....
u need those cathodes do let me know..

so it turns out the problem is with the inverter. I got another inverter from my friend (Omran), which is not giving the gpu problem.

now, i have put UVs on the tripping inverter which i will use without switching them off, and on the other inverter im using the white ones with switch mounted at the front. switching the white ones on/off doesnt create any problem.
