Why what happened man?
The total interview was like for only 10 minutes, and though i only saw 2 other candidates there, i think i saw the interviewers holding a lot of CVs with them.
though i think i was completely calm in the first interview, I dont know why but i was ultra nervous here (maybe because it was the ceo and coo present :p). in the start they asked me questions that why do i want to get in research, i tried to explain that though its my first priority, it would still be great if i get any finance related task. then they asked if i wanted to go in research, why did i apply for this program, they have other programs for it. and thats what got me... (frankly i didnt even know they have other programs than affiliate and graduate trainee :p) but before i could answer anything they asked if i had read the details about this program and what departments would they be sending me.. ofcourse i read them and answered yes, but could only answer like 1 or 2 names correctly. the coo kept shaking his head on every wrong name which made it like even more nervous...
after that they asked some other normal questions. the ceo asked me about my strengths, i answered that, but the coo looked at my cv, and again shook his head. i think my answer was in line with what was written on my cv but not exactly the strengths they were looking for :\
after that, they asked me like why elixir and previous experience and academic performances... these questions i think i did well. (ateast the coo didnt shook his head in these)..
they asked me then if i have any questions for them, yes i had and i asked what is expected to happen when the 1 year training expires, career prospects in the company after that? the ceo answered that very well and nicely. infact explained a lot of other things that usually happen during the training.
the last 5 minutes were like the most awkward one. the ceo (junaid iqbal i think thats his name) asked me during the interview that have i ever had any interest as a selling and marketing person. i said not really. now in these last 5 minutes, he gave a really long advice on how i can be a really good selling person, that i am a person who is more than just a normal accountant and all, that i should really be doing something that is more than just a research, he told me that he judged my personality (which he said he judged from the personality questionnaire and the interview - did i mention there was a personality questionnaire sent trhough email on wednesday 24th) and i was more like a people's person and do not belong in research and he explained it so nicely that it was becoming such a pleasure listening to his reasoning and all... they way he was explaining, the examples he was using etc was sooo ... professional..
While i was listening to him, i noticed that the other person (the coo) was looking at me and noting down something.
anyways, though i believe that the end advice was more of a like 'you are not really what we are looking for' but it was really good. not a normal 'you can go now' thing. but was really like he did believe in what he was saying. and at the end, he told me that if they have any opportunity like that, they would notify me. after that they asked if i have any other question for them, i said "i had few in the beginning, but they are cleared now" because i honestly, i didnt know what to ask :p and after that answer, they both looked at each other like i did not answered the right thing. i think i should've asked some questions there.... i asked them when would be result of this interview announced and he said by the end of this week or the start of the next.

I noticed before my interview that the both the other candidates that i saw came out with happy faces like they are hired or something, haha and i came out with a 'wth have i done' face :D

The ceo asked like all of the questions and was behaving nice and frank most of the time. He was honestly a REALLY good person to meet. but the coo was there i think only to scare people out. had this angry face on him all the time (or atleast i think it was angry) and knew nothing but to shake his head like a BIG NO! lol i cant even imagine working under him :\

sorry for the really long reply :D i thought i should write down the details while the memory is fresh for it to be kind of a learning to other people.. i think...

Saadi939, I called them in the morning and they said that your application was not forward for 2nd interview. :(
I am a graduate + ACCA + Sales marketing experience, I don't know what they are looking for ... this anxiety problem also effects me, i get nervous and all that.
I made 3 page interview answers of strengths, weakness, why this job, why elixir but i don't know what the hell I said in interview... I cut my legs with my own hands :(

if you are a graduate, you should try another time by applying for their graduate trainee program.
you already have the experience of their interview, you'll definitely do better this time :)

and well this anxiety... it effects everyone, even after years of interviews. without it, you may not even look interested and will give an impression of arrogance. too much and a person may end up like me or you :D

controlling it is the key...

also, are you full qualified? you shouldn't be depressed. there are many other great opportunities available. have you tried Axact? i think their affiliate program is also undergoing right now...

and what about your inbox application? when is your interveiw there?

they are done with hiring, next hiring will start in june 2013 on facebook page.
seriously man they don't even have there careers email address, all of them applied through facebook, acca.rozee.pk is almost dead.

Dont worry man, happens to the best of us sometimes !! I also had a bad bad 2nd interview with partner at AFF, however he was particularly nice and gave me another chance by calling me for 3rd interview and i corrected my mistakes in 2nd interview and got through. I also made similar mistakes as you did.. i knew nothing about the department, the kind of work i would be expected to do, why would i want to join such a department etc etc.. I was completely blank when he asked me "So tell me what do you know about our department" and i was like.. uuhhhhhhh.... :D..

and thats quite an experience bro!...btw if you ignore the cons of this experience of not being selected maybe, then ull realize there are ALOT of pros too.

-Now you know how to cope with interview stress
-As per the CEO, this job is not your 'thing' anyway
-You know what to do and what not to do in an interview now

This is just a mildly bitter start to an possibly very bright career.
I mean if you hadn't learnt form your mistakes from this 1st hand experience, then God knows how you would've got this insight into the interview world.
khuwab mai toh ana nai tha tumhe ye sab kuch :p

P.S. SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST

hey he offered you an ICAEW training contract?
are you sure he said ICAEW?

if yes then WOW man! big big news! i thaught those were still banned.
Yeah he said ICAEW contract then I call him to to say then will the firm bear my education & fee & subscription, He was laughing & told me " dekhaiye hum app ko contract bhi de rahey wo bhi bari baat hain, fees aur sab app ko pay karna"
(because in other parts of world with ICAEW contract, your fees subs and tuition is provided by employer, but not in Pakistan)
I think I was not called for 2nd interview, they hired other 2 maybe they were not asking ICAEW contract don't know, but he said that we will consider you for any new trainee position.

Well thanks for the info man! i recently tried to pull some strings to get an ICAEW training contract in the big4 or maybe top 10 without any success...but this consoles me that there is still hope in audit firms out there...warna i was finally gonna give in to applying for icaew training in industry after this june attempt.

And yes thats the sad truth...they offer you the china version of the ICAEW training contract in pakistan...Big4, top 10 or whichever firm it is..
jo loag dil pe pathar rakh k mushkilo se ICAP trainees ko 8000rs monthly dyty hain, unka dimag toh kharab nai ke wo humari rs.25,000+ fees per paper and annual subscription dain :p
but the MAJOR advantage is that they dont care about exam progress... if a firm sponsers your ICAEW fees and training in the UK, they expect you to pass...
if you fail an exam while training with them with a margin of 10%...they terminate your contract.

in pakistan, on the other hand...they dont care how many attempts you take...they just want you to do their work for 8000rs per month :p
