AOA,

Hope you people are fine. I'm a CMA finalist from LHR. I need your suggestion. I've one paper (SMA from stage 6) remaining. Now, i want to step into practical life. Today, i went to an ICAP audit firm to look for some practical experience opportunity. They agree to train me but they are saying i must enter into a contract of min 2 Years (+ 3 months trial at the beginning) of practical training. They'll give 8k-10k (or may be a few more) stipend monthly.

Now, please advice me is it the best route for entering the market, otherwise suggest some other.
Why dont you directly go into the industry instead of audit firms?

Right now, get whatever you can. Your moto should be "learning", not "earning". Take this opportunity because not only you will get to meet A LOT of people, which will help you broaden your social circle, but you will also get plenty of opportunities to train yourself better.

Heck If it was me, i would agree to do it for free given the extremely saturated market in Pakistan.

P.S. May i ask which firm did you visit?

Do it yourself. You have internet at your disposal, you don't need to ask anyone else to do that.

A lot of samples, tutorials, and hints available at web. You can include that word Accountant or Auditor in your search list. Heck of you have Office 2013 installed. You can download professional formats and make your job even easier.

Here is one hint, to follow a professional format. Professionals need to know your skills first. So list them right after your "Objective". Use bullet points for skills, to keep it concise ... Like those one-liner dialogues in movies. List experience next, and THEN Education.

There you have it. Now get to work.

Practical Experience, i've zero experience. Although i've studied every important thing but with the passage of time honestly, i don't remember the details now. I need to refresh most of the things from practical point of view. If i directly enter into the industry, there too, at first i'll need such a post where i can be trained and which helps me to refresh what i've studied.

I understand the pros of practical training in an audit firm. Now, the issue is financial assistance of the family. Currently, i've time and i do some web development work which fulfils my family's financial requirements. If i join an audit firm i'll no longer be able to continue my web development work as the timing of the audit firm is 9 AM to 7 PM. Only if i get relaxation in timing i can carry both jobs together.

The firm was a small one, named 'Munawwar Associates'.

Crunch time approaching guys

With December just a few weeks away I was wondering how you guys are coping with the exam prep? I'm somewhat of a slacker when it comes to passing exams but with me taking extended time off from my work-life, I decided might as well revisit the ICAP exam hall this December....:)

Jokes aside though any tips for the IT paper in Mod E would be highly appreciated.

Best of luck to everyone sitting their exams.

I can't say for sure about the level of difficulty you will have. I started ACCA after pre-eng A Levels; it wasn't much harder for me, however, it took me some time to get a good grasp of things. A good institute for CA in Lahore is PAC.

Do some research yourself before getting into this field as CA is not for everyone. Some people get stuck on some papers, especially in mod E and F, and start regretting coming into the field.
Okay thanks, I'm also choosing between SKANS and PAC.However both of these insititues don't provide hostel facility which is not good for me as an outsider :( the envirnoment of private hostels is not suitable for studies...... But I have my hopes high for CA and I'll complete it inshallah :)

Anyone did the recent ICAEW Advanced Level/Stage exams?

How did it go. Absolutely bombed it. Knew almost 70-80% of it, but was really short on time, and ended up attempting only 50% of it.

I have a question, In CA level 1, we can take exams of as many papers as we want? the exams are held after 6 months and all the CA academies take fee of all papers and start classes for all subjects in those 6 months, they don't give us choice as those are just basic subjects. But if I only take 3 papers after 6 months then what will happen to other 2 papers? Can I take them in the next session? So in this way I will complete Level 1 in 1 year and it will still considered as 1st attempt? I mean if I skip some papers and don't take exam, in order to take it in next session then I will not considered fail in those paper? I never attempted them.... right? (I'm talking about level 1)

1. In level 1 i.e AFC, there are 4 papers and you can take as many as you like.
2. Don't know about other academies, but in Alhamd academy you can pay fees for only the papers you take.
3. Every attempt you take adds to your total attempts. If you pass 2 papers in one attempt and other 2 in second attempt, it will be counted as 2 attempts, but individually papers will be called first attempt passed.
Example: I passed QT, FEN, FA1, FA2, Tax in 1st attempt, Eco and BcBs in 2nd attempt and Mlaw in 3rd attempt, but overall my attempts are 4 because I passed all these in 4 attempts.
4. If you skip an attempt, it will not be counted as an attempt.

If you clear AFC & CAF in 4-7 attempts you can apply into big 4 but the rest depends on interview. Now a days they usually look for communication skills in interview.

Stipend rate for CA Inter (CAF) passed is Rs 9600.

Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.

tbh gaming industry as a whole is failing much like tech industry. They have buckled down too much to Corporate suites then relying on passionate and innovative people. A corporate only believes in financial growth and shareholders.
