I do get the feeling you will have to incorporate some sort of converters to get the signal from the PS3 but which exactly, I hope someone is able to specify that soon now that you have mentioned the Model.

Everyone, stop taking guesses on how to make the playstation 3 work on his monitor, if you don't know for sure dont confuse him.

Firstly, a VGA to hdmi wire WILL NOT WORK, why? Because vga signals are analog while HDMI is digital, and that vga is NOT HDCP compliant which is a necessary feature for recieving HD signals and outputting HD resolutions.

With that out of the way: a hdmi to dvi wire WILL work since DVI is HDCP compliant and can convert hd resolutions, since there is no signal loss with DVI you will recieve FULL HD resolutions depending on your monitor. An HDMI port IS NOT NEEDED.

The problem arises with the fact that as you stated, you do not have a DVI port, only a VGA one, which is very troublesome since you won't be able to play HD. There are only two options as i see it left at your disposal:

1: Get a HD to VGA converter ( convertor is different to wire ), the problem with this is that it is expensive, around a 100$'s, like ragefury or other brands, it is full of hassle and what not and at the end you won't recieve HD videoplay ( since you are outputting through vga after all ) it is better you go for option 2

2: Buy a new monitor, you could save yourself a lot of hassle if you just buy a new monitor, one which has a DVI port, i see lots of cheap ones which cost below 10k which have DVI ports.

Actually the guy is still screwed, since he cannot connect either of the consolea to his VGA port without shelling in around 100$, sucks i know.

Actually i have been screwed like this aswell, even though i play on my NON HD tv, i wanted to connect my ps3 to my monitor for HD but was distraught when i learnt that it did not have a DVI port. :/.

You could also sell your current monitor and get a new monitor, it'd then become way cheaper to get it.

I vmed you, as far as how much your current one would go far, i have no clue. Different factors affect the price like warranty, specs etc.

You should ask the other experienced guys in marketing on that.

If i were to make a novice suggestion, i'd go for 5-7k as its price.

You will be using different cable types for the PC and Ps3, not the same wire.

Get a monitor which has 2 ports i.e. VGA and DVI

Go for Samsung Syncmaster 940Be. It has a DVI + VGA port, 19 inch screen and supports 1080p resoultion too. I have the same monitor and i have used it with my Xbox 360 using DVI to VGA cable. You can get the cable for approx 500 rs from any PS3/Xbox 360 game shop easily.

You can hook your PC via VGA and PS3 via DVI and can easily switch between both of them at the press of a button.

This monitor will cost you <6k if you go for a used one. Or you can get similar 19 inch used LCDs which have both DVI+VGA port for 5-6K. I had brought one from Dubai Plaza in Rawalpindi for 5.8K and it worked perfectly fine with my Xbox 360.
