Rapchik Killer, you should ask Crackberry bloggers to blog about this. This would result in a huge number of sales! I didn't know Pakistani developers made this.

I love how Playbook's softwares and games have increased in quantity and quality just a month after release of OS2.0

Thank you guys!

@SharyBalu we have a publisher called Marmalade for blackberry, android and symbian and im sure they have already asked crackberry guys to review it :).. so they are handling marketing on that end and we did marketing for ios ourselves..

As for IGF, this was our first game so it was a huge learning experience.. now we have some amazing stuff in the works, once we have something that packs a proper punch, IGF isn't far away :)..

@Aameshah lol that build had wrong texture compression so it didn't work on android, faizan accidently might have sent it to you..

Thank you guys :)..

Pleasant: The textures look stretched in the video cause of the capture methods.. and the screenshots are renders with post, like all games do.. this game took us quite some time to build due to several problems which we faced and so the game was initially made to run on the n95 and iphone 2g so the graphics are comparatively lower than what we wanted..

umairhaque: Tested on device ofcourse, its too risky to release a game by just testing on simulator..

Cade2: haha i always considered you are more like a siggraph guy, which is much better imo :)...

Hi Rapchik,

Look pretty interesting. Congratulations to you. Going through your blog I assume that you guys are used marmalade for this game. How does it comapre to something like Unity3D or ShiVa?

UmairAnjum: for this game i used a builtin standard resolution in my code, and then created a multiplier from it which is used in all the calculations.. just remember to maintain aspect ratio, otherwise youll see a lot of stretch.. as for assets, we mainly used high res assets for all phones, but did create lower res for phones which might have memory issues or very low resolution compared to the high res asset..

enygmyx: Marmalade is amazing, you must have already read the blog post about it too. Shiva is actually made on top of marmalade. It uses marmalade to deploy your game on mobile phones. Shiva and unity are more like game editors, they give you a nice little gui to work with and give you a scripting language to code, which is really good for fast prototyping but lacks control and at a lot of times power to create high end games.

I assume that you have used Unity as well, so could you give me an example of something that can be done (or in a significantly better way) in Marmalade than Unity. We currently use Unity and love it, I took a look at Marmalade and it looked interesting as well (especially the number of platforms its supports). So I am just weighing the pros and cons.

I have played around a bit with unity.. now ill be honest, i consider unity/shiva in a totally different category than marmalade.. unity is an editor based game development tool which deploys whereas with marmalade you work in c++, and deploy as an native app.. Id just list the pros and cons of both of them..

just so you know as i always favour working on the lowest possible level and having maximum control, unity never appealed to me.. but its a pretty good engine, so ill list the pros and cons against marmalade..

Unity
Pros
- Very fast development
- Easy to work with (scripts, drag and drop)
- Has a thriving market place and community so you can get your problems solved pretty fast or you could just buy a component to get things done even faster

Cons
-Expensive (4500$ for a pro ios + android license last i checked, without pro you dont get a lot of things which favour unity, again to get thing sdone faster you buy from unity store, and modules on unity store are again expensive)
- Slower (Even though unity does a very fine job of running scripts, but still at the end of the day they are scripts, so they need to be interpreted and can never be as fast as native code)
- Less Control (Even though the plugins system does help, unity has a specific way of doing things, so if you like that new ad engine that came into the market or you like a specific analytics system for your game, there might be no way of adding it into your game)
- Slow Updates (You hit a small problem at some point that is causing your game to crash because of an internal bug in unity, and you might have hit dead end, they might or might not fix the bug in the next update and even if they do it would take ages for it to come out)

Marmalade
Pros
- Fast performance (Native Code)
- Low level access, you basically have control over everything and much less dependence than you would with unity
- Multiple platforms supported
- Stability (They have been making games over 14 years, the engine is amazingly stable)

Cons
- Takes longer to develop (When you start coding with c++ it would obviously take much longer to code)
- Steep learning curve (Marmalade does everything in its own way, so it would take more time to learn things initially)
- Bad forum support (Even though people would barely answer you on the forums, or would take days to answer, marmalade has an amazing documentation so youd barely need forums)

Now the final verdict that id give between these two, If you want to develop for the future, and learn the real ins and outs of game development, go with marmalade. Its going to help you in the future. If you want to make games quick go with unity.

I really like the style and concept of yours. Next time bring something totally new like using a 3d designer for models, could work you know.
I highly appriate and praise you guys. When is it coming for android and will it be free??

The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.
