3DS XL Revealed!

During its Nintendo Direct broadcast tonight, Nintendo revealed a new version of the 3DS featuring larger screens.The system will be called 3DS XL in the West and will retail for $199.99. It will be released on August 19th, the same day as New Super Mario Bros. 2.

The system's top screen is now 4.88 inches, while the lower screen is now 4.18 inches. Both screens will be 90% larger than on the original 3DS. The actual resolution on the screens is the same as the original 3DS.The new 3DS will have longer battery life than the original model of the 3DS.

The hell are you guys talking about? Im pretty glad they didn't include the circle pad pro.

If they did, then the 3DS XL would be exponentially fatter due to the R2 button. Also, they'd be dividing their fan-base into two. One with the second analog and one without.

Smart move by Nintendo to keep the second circle pad completely optional.

Well still no second analogue i didn't care for the dsxl/LL last time either dont care for this either, just looking forward to the games. im happy with my current 3DS and the old 3DS'S circlepad pro wont fit this either ... plus bulkier 3DS no thanks..

Nintendo has announced a new portable console that they hope will revitalize their sagging portable game market.

Reggis Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, announced in a special "Nintendo Direct" video the release of the Nintendo 3DSXL.

The new portable console features a 4.3-inch screen and a larger touch screen than its predecessor. It will hit stores on Aug. 19.

Fils-Aime said this new portable device will "get the most out of everything the 3DS was made to do."

[UPDATE: 12:19 a.m. Pacific] – Nintendo announced some new details about New Super Mario Bros. 2. The team announced at E3 that the new Mario title would focus more on coin collecting including a special power-up that turns just about everything in the game into coins and a running tally of all the coins players collect throughout their experience.

Nintendo also announced a new RPG for the portable console, Fire Emblem: Awakening, with a release date scheduled after this year.

Fils-Aime also announced that special "Coin Rush" stages for New Super Mario Bros. 2 would also be available for download with development starting after its release on Aug. 19.

And I don't see the big deal here, it's just a larger 3DS, SONY redesigns their hardware all the time, the only difference is that they make it smaller and Nintendo has made their bigger.

The new one is freakin' ugly man. Its only got a longer battery by one hour plus is not as portable.

Even given the option now, I'd buy the normal Flame Red 3DS. Its much more better looking imo.

I liked the bigger DSi XL, made it hard to go back to a regular old DS, plus was more comfortable and made reading text easier. I will probably pick this up sometime after release.

The flame red is a freakin' awesome color. Looks 10x times better then this. Plus is more portable.

Btw, how are they gonna use the circle pad pro on this? :hah:

^^^ make another CIRCLE PAD PRO XL for it

they could have so made a lz and rz buttons on this man, curve the back a bit from the upper part and those two triggers could easily come there plus the 3dsxl would had got a bit of a angle aswell to it when putting it down..
