So how can said 'new graduate' earning 350-400US$ a month usually afford a 350-400US$ console ... and a cellphone of the same worth.

Pakistan doesnt have the new grad earning and paying for everything he/she needs to buy routine.

New graduates earn at most $350-400 a month in Pakistan. Can't justify spending $60 of that on games. India recently had a few games (like ROTTR) for $12. If games were subsidized here like they are in India or Ukraine, then we'd see a lot more people buying legit games.
My point exactly. I really wanted to play ROTTR and i wanna pay for it but the effin price is out of my reach. Which really hurts and past few days i just wanted to sell my PC and buy ps4 & start renting the games

@Shary Bhallu TC

yes, and its a shame and it shouldn't be like this..But that doesn't mean we steal something...also I would really suggest steam sales or buying used copies or making a steam account among friends to share the burden..I remember we had this for ps games on pg...also WTT threads can be used..there are alternates for people looking for them..

Btw cant we make Indian steam accs??

The thing is, I know one thing, if people didnt pay for stuff in games, I would be out of my job..simple as that

I dont think it is possible to make Indian account because bank will charge us according to pakistani current rate and convert the rates from Indian ruppee to pak one.

Buying console is usually a one time thing. You buy a console for 3-4 years. Same goes for a cell phone. I use my cellphone for 2 years, unless it gets robbed or something. Besides I've so far have been backed by my parents (still got 2 semesters to go before graduation). The rig I have (GTX 970, i3 etc) was bought from the money saved because I got a merit scholarship (50% off in O/A Lvl). Instead of paying fees, parents gave the 'saved' money to me instead. And it'll last me 3 years if I spend a couple thousand and buy a used i5. The cellphone was from pocket money/eidi (necessity so gotta have one). One AAA game a month seems good to me if prices are like those of India/Ukraine. I was actually very close to buying ROTTR a few weeks ago but Steam started banning the people who bought from the Indian store. And Windows didn't allow anyone outside of Ukraine to buy ROTTR from their store after the news of the cheap games broke off.

Point me where I can buy ROTTR for $12, and I'll buy it asap.

You simply do not play the game. Game developers work years to develop a game and a lot of investment is being put in it.

That is why you see their no investment of paypal and other online stuff in Pakistan. Btw it is not developers fault that most of people cannot afford. It is your own fault and your country system fault.

The thing is... once you have a job and a responsible life, you will hardly have enough time to play 2-3 AAA games in a month. Secondly, multiplayer gaming is getting bigger and there are games that are definitely worth the $60 investment since they will keep you busy in the long term. These are multiplayer oriented games like Black Ops 3, Battlefront, FIFA 16, Street Fighter V etc. Then there are SP games with not much of a replay value like Rise of the Tomb Raider, that are definitely not worth the full price at launch if you don't have a good income.

Although I will never buy the games are expensive excuse, because AFAIK, the PS4 games market in Pakistan is really cheap and to top it, if you have an active PS Plus subscription (can cost as much as rs 4500 per year) and keep some money in the digital wallet for sales (that also happen frequently now), you will be easily able to build up a huge backlog. Retail sellers here in Pakistan have also started to offer cheap deals now that there is some competition among them. Far Cry Primal was being offered for less than 5k at launch and it is an $60 game Mad Max, which is an old game, can be bought for 3.5k brand new and even cheaper used, so it is essentially half the price. Then you have to consider the fact that you can easily resell these games and get your initial money back more or less. I am just listing some examples here to give you an idea.

Basically if you know where to look and how to spend, you should be able to get the game cheap. I can definitely understand being a student and having next to no income, but if you earn decently, buying games should be easier because you are never literally paying close to $60 for majority of the games. Steam works the same way except you are restricted to digital only games where as you have the option of retail games on consoles.

ROTR was recently selling for as low as $15 IIRC and that was the PC version. You just have to know where to look for it. It has never been $60 TBH. ROTR codes were going for a cheap price because of the GTX deal. Quantum Break will be same on PC as there are bound to be people who will sell their PC version codes. I might sell mine too :D

I hardly have enough time to play a single game right now as it is. I am playing an hour or so of Stardew Valley right now, because it is a low intensity game. I simply don't have the time or energy to play demanding games at this time. Too much work to do.

I agree with the statement that there are some games that definitely deserve the $60 price tag. Sadly multiplayer games, even those which are f2p, don't work too well on my internet. I used to play DOTA 3-4 hours a day 6 months back. But the internet has gone to shit. I get over 200ms ping on almost every game, which IMO is unplayable. So multiplayer games are out of the question for me right now.

I'll look into buying Quantum Break if its cheap. Here's hoping MS brings over more 'exclusives' to PC lol.

Yaar how many xbox 360 each one of us has buyed isnt its technical flaws were Microsoft responsibility and almost every one here on pg got robbed from them
all the european countries offer game exchanges and return policy but we have none

From my point of view we should have to PAY FOR Game OR ONLINE SERVICE

SONY AND MICROSOFT FREE GAMES = SUPER UGLIEST ALMOST 0 VALUE AT THE TIME OF OFFERING

and Piracy looks like stealing, ONLY from one side of the Picture on other side one has the right to share its game to others

how can companies even allowed to block account sharings and ban someone for

that IT means u should also not let ur younger brother play ur games its also piracy

WHY ALL COPYRIGHTS RULES SUPPORTS DEVELOPERS NONE SUPPORTS BUYERS

I definitely prefer original games, even on PC. The reason PC has been so neglected over the years is because of piracy. Lets face it, Denuvo has breathed new life into PC gaming. Publishers have more confidence in it and are thus releasing AWESOME ports.....ports that are superior versions to consoles. This is what we should strive for.
Now theres always the flip side. I prefer buying console games because you can sell them or trade them. PC games are digital and thus pretty much stuck with you unless you sell your ENTIRE account for dirt cheap. So all single player games are pretty much worthless to buy....unless you get them cheap on PC

How many Denuvo protected games, particularly sequels and annual releases, have sold significantly well on PC as a result? Can the boost in sales be attributed to Denuvo alone? How many people bought Rise of the Tomb Raider because it could not be pirated? If this thread is any indication, most would probably just wait for a Steam sale. So what justification is there to use DRM?

It also isn't a surprise that most publishers utilizing Denuvo are not shining examples of companies with a healthy relationship with consumers in the first place (namely EA, Ubisoft, SE).

As @Spartan 117 already pointed out, these publishers/developers can be successful if they improve their business practices. Using DRM solutions like Denuvo isn't one of them. Rest assured, if CDPR had a shitty track record of shoddy PC ports, delaying PC version, using DRM etc, I would not have pre-ordered Witcher 3. CDPR is anti-DRM, doesn't make them pro-piracy (Witcher 3 was still pirated heavily). If they, along with many other developers/publishers, can tackle the issue successfully, why not EA or Ubisoft?

This is the mentality in these companies
Activision :
But the real bomb dropped, from a gamer's perspective at least, when he touted the company's intense focus on the bottom line above all else, noting that the company's employee incentive program "really rewards profit and nothing else."
"We have a real culture of thrift," he said. "The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games."
EA:
Here’s EA’s chief financial officer speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference:
We’re building into all of our games the ability to pay for things along the way, either to get to a higher level to buy a new character, to buy a truck, a gun, whatever it might be . . . Consumers are enjoying and embracing that way of the business.
AAA studios are brutal and no fun place to be. They treat people worst than we would treat sheep. Honestly. This is their mentality.
So when they see a way to 2 more dollars, they run after those 2 dollars, they dont think of long term effects or how they are perceived because the product they have made, they believe, is drugs..And to some extent they are correct aswell.

I am seeing alot of post voting towards ANTI- Piracy... well i agree its a theft, bad thing etc... BUT in our country where a persons full months salary is hardly 10-12K, will this kind of person ever be able to buy a game worth FIVE THOUSAND RUPEES ??? Sir talk about 500 NOT 5000.- this is still to less, i have seen PS4 titles being sold at Rs. 8000, o_O Now this is really insane for a middle class person...and even for a average person who earns 20-25K wont buy a Video Game that expensive... well thats just my point of view...

Woah. Easy on the language guys.

Relax.

To be very honest, we have since the start never known that these games and things have value and appreciate them so. Rs 20-50 ki CD is all we have ever known.

The argument given is that 10-12k ki tankhwa par kaisey khareeday ? I'm 100% sure no one with a 10k ... or even 20k salary and running a home has thought of buying a PS4 ... or PS3 ... or PS2, or a PC or laptop. I'm 100% sure the people working at WalMart or McD or working two jobs to run his family cannot afford a 60US$ game so very often either.

Your educated class earns alot more than 10-12k. Your business man specially earns shitloads, even a paan wala (and doesnt pay taxes etc as well ... but thats another story)

Funny thing though, the lowly salary earning people of our country still have money to buy 10k+ Android phones. My office peons carry around pretty decent Androids ffs. Paan wala with an iPhone 5 and stuff.

Its all about giving VALUE to things. We sadly have never given value to this stuff. Mainly because the cheaper alternative has been available so easily.

And to the kid emailing 'Gibs' on Steam ... beta toffee khaogay ?
