A 15-year-old Pakistani online gamer from Karachi, Sumail Hassan Syed, inspired by my son, Danyal Zahid, and once his team member, today won $1.2 million in Dota 2 Asia Championships in China and became the world’s best Dota 2 player. DAC15 is the world’s biggest tournament in Dota 2 after TI5.

He also won DotA 2 Championship in Procom'13, an event organized at FAST NUCES (Karachi) every year.

Karachi.
Basically what happened was that this kid was playing the first tournament of his life against all the top tier DOTA 2 players from China, Ukraine, Singapore/Thailand, USA, etc. He was literally picked up around a month ago by EG (a huge esports organization based in the US), and in place of one of the best DOTA 2 players around who left to join another team. But he fit right in and kicked ass. GGWP SumaiL.

not his first dota 2 event... he played for eg in d2l where they placed 5th or 6th and didnt really look that good.... DAC was his first major event, and playing in China against a Chinese powerhouse certainly needed him to have a lot of balls.... the other team focused heavily on him and tried to shut him down, but he came back with a vengeance.... all in all, he's a fantastic player...

but don't mislead... he's not a "champion" in the true sense of the word since there are multiple dota 2 events in a year.... i also read somewhere that he's become a world champion... lelz... to put it in terms really simple so non-dota 2 people can understand, he just won something like an Asia cup with his team... the true World Cup is still left

It's all about team strategy but apart from that if he was not worth playing in a international team why would they let him play mid carry? So FYI he's a champion

what does team strategy have to do with anything here? my point was that a lot of people are trying to portray as if Sumail has become the Dota 2 champion or something.... he just won a big event with 4 other players.... he may be the DAC champion, but to call him a Dota 2 champion? say that after he wins TI

Read so many misleading articles from bandwagoners in the past 24 hours.

The kid is an excellent player and he played superbly in the semis and the finals no doubt, but there is no 'world champion' in dota. The closest one can get to that title is by winning The International. He'll get his chance in a few months.

He's lucky to be surrounded by such a talented team.. Ppd the drafting genius, Universe the champion offlaner, Fear the old man and AUI the great. Best of luck to him.

our media and their stupid reporting, for once though i turned around to my wife and gave her that "see that" smile ... this is a feast a married person can achieve once or twice in his life (if he is lucky) so i owe this kid a lot :p
