If I'm understanding your post correctly, the issue for Spider-Man (2018) isn't BC rather the remastered version for the PS5 for which there is (allegedly) no free upgrade. I believe one's PS4 copy will work with BC, just without the remastered upgrades.

this is not true ...

Spider Man is a separate game, a full remaster with a new list of trophies, not the same version on the PS4.

99% of PS4 games will run on PS5 out of the box without any extra work or patches required. Which means you can stick in your PS4 Spider Man disc and it will run in the PS4 Pro mode with some enhancements like faster load times etc out of the box, it will just look like the PS4 version without any enhancements.

aaand why not give the upgrades to who bought it at launch and or the deluxe or collectors editions ? its same SONY BS like they did with the remasters in ps4 with ps3 games etc. ppfffft

Different situation, you could not put in your PS3 discs in PS4 and play the games at all.

Here you can put in your PS4 discs in PS5 and play them like the PS4 Pro mode with more improvements like faster load, better performance etc.

This case is just a full remaster which is not the same as just a simple resolution increasing patch. It would have been good PR if they offered for free, but it makes sense why it's not free.

I mean even other publishers are giving away free upgrades whereas they could also leave the matter at BC and a boost mode.

Doom Eternal is a 2020 game and giving away free upgrade to all current owners.

CP2077 will be getting them as well for free and TW3, a game I think 5-6 years old?, is also providing upgrades for free 😛

If I have to guess, it could be Marvel's pressure or something

Edit: And I don't think a 2 year old only game warrants the word remaster, should just be called upgraded 😛

It would also make sense that Microsoft would charge for all these improvements for Gears 5 on Series X.

  • Post Processing improvements like Bloom, Lens Flare, Light Shafts, etc.

We don't really know one way or another what's gonna happen with it yet, it's just rumor and conjecture based on the ultimate edition being higher prices...

Which, you know may be targeted towards people who don't own the original game already

By pressure, I also meant licensing fees, because the character is owned by Marvel, and the video game character rights. By putting the game on any console, Marvel is getting something because of the partnership and licensing.

Sony only owns the movie character rights, not the game character rights.

sony owns SPIDERMAN as a WHOLE dude his all universe. morbius and all characters whether in movies or games :p disney don't get jack outta sony games or their movies. its sony who got money out of lending spiderman to avengers and all that and than marvel helped them create sonys new holland movies thats how disney got something out of it but nothing outta games

Wrong.

TL;DR = Sony only owns movie rights, all other rights including video games are still held by Marvel.

Possibly as a matter of good faith Marvel reached out to Sony to make a game, Sony reached out to Insomniac who then could’ve chosen any character but chose Spider-Man.

The recent Spider-Man being exclusive to PS4 for Avengers game also created confusion regarding the video game character rights.

FWIW, JStevenson (an Insomniac Developer) has confirmed on Era that you can still play the PS4 disc on a PS5 in backwards compatibility mode where it will run like a PS4 Pro with faster SSD load times... and the game ran with a dynamic resolution so it's gonna stick to the higher end naturally.

So it's not a total bust.

Just don't expect PS4 owners to get the Remastered version for free (which is being treated as a separate game, not an upgrade patch to an existing game).

    Started Dead Island 2, and i find it pretty lame. The story is shit. The characters are either cringe or bland (all 6 of them), The gameplay isn't fun. Even the goddamn zombies don't behave like proper zombies. They're all fast & intelligent unlike how zombies are supposed to be like. Any fan of "zombie" genre cannot possibly like this shitfest of a game. Dying Light 2 was million times better than this shit.
