As stated above, everything is pretty much underground. The only thing above ground is the fiber that comes from the concrete box in front of your house, like a gutter That too is inside another pipe. The installation is very professional, specially by Pakistani standards.

It has nothing to do with DP boxes or copper wires. This is a whole new network using a different technology.

I'm stuck in same situation in Dha Phase 8, Lahore. Been trying for 2 years, each time I ask (PTCL or EVP) for VDSL or GPON, they say its in the pipeline but it'll cost too much to upgrade so we can't say when it will be done

Like you said, they probably turn away everyone like us, so there isn't any record of number of people demanding VDSL/GPON so aankh ohjal pahaar ohjal.

Has anyone had luck getting people in their community to sign a petition and then get PTCL to upgrade the connections in the area?

Surely you jest... right? A monopoly won't function as well as a competitive market will.

Best you keep it simple so that you don't stress yourselves much.
- If PTCL upgrades, fine.

- if PTCL doesn't upgrade, then
-- pick another provider

- If no other provider is available
-- determine if using no internet is a better option.

Does PTCL block outgoing UDP on any ports/range? I'm seeing dropped UDP packets, but ping isn't showing any packet loss though, so maybe PTCL filtering them?

I had fastpath enabled before, but I think it got disabled as the internet was reset from PTCL's side... what delay improvements can i see from enabling fastpath again? also is it actually disabled or am I wrong for thinking that...

Fastpath is enabled when you get <12ms pings to the very first hop (the internet gateway).

If it's around 40ms, then that means fastpath is disabled.

Try changing the setting from their self-care portal. Some say that you have to get them to change some settings at the back-end (interleaver depth and something else...?)

and i did try changing the setting from the portal, but absolutely nothing happened (been 2 days now)

- Tell 1218.
- Write a written request and give it to your exchange (make sure you mention the effective date on the letter, and mention that you've already told 1218).
- Return the PTCL modem to the exchange.

The letter isn't required, but it is strongly recommended to document your attempt should anything go awry.

Did anybody else experience routing changes? Something happened right now, Most of my traffic is going through omantel. PTCL messing up the routing again? 250+ pings in EU.

I remember I paid quite a hefty amount to get the replacement modem once my first one broke down? Doesn't this mean I own the modem and don't have to return it?

Unless you can prove that you own the modem (they should have it in their system), you'll have to return it. It depends how your package plan/charges were billed.
