PTCL New DSL Package

for me the whole process took more than 3 weeks, never went to the exchange but on phone they said once i get the username/password the technician will come to install the modem.

that username/pwd took really long time to come though, but once i recieved it via sms/email the guy came next day to install the modem.

i have zyxel modem n my dsl light keeps droppin everynow n again, i asked them to come n see whether its a modem problem but they said they wont change the modem....but will see into it from there end. It was kinda surprising to hear that they wont change the modem since the same guy a day earlier said he'll change it in the morning... anyhow bunch of A holes.....dun care abt the modem as im getting speedtouch soon.....i just want them to rectify the line drop issue

Where do you live? I mean in which area? also the signal dropping could be due to the splitter, can you tell me where the installation guy placed the splitter in your house? it should be placed at the main distribution point (before any phone set) at your home.

I live in Gulshan block 13-D/2...the splitter is placed at the main n only distribution point (before any phoneset)...i called the 1236 support n they say it might a loose port or md5 issue....also they asked me to run dsl line diagnostics from the modem (tell them some noise upstream/downstream readings).

now that i remember the day dsl was installed the line was dropping...n the ptcl guy called his supervisor n fed in some new dns entries after which it ran fine..... but off late it happens alot skype keeps disconnecting.....n the dsl line also keeps dropping every now n again.....

currently i have the following dns entries:

203.99.163.240

guys i saw the ptcl dsl modem installation procedure yesterday.it is so hard.i am using brain net dsl and i have a speedtouch modem and it is so easy to install.you just install the modem and enter the dns numbers and that's it.so what i want to know that are these setting are of the modem that ptcl give or are these of the dsl.i mean if i use ptcl dsl with my speedtouch modem will i have to go through these settings or not.

i m also going to apply for student package (unlimited download now) in few days .. i want to ask some Qs before applying..

Q.which dsl modem is best?

Q.whats the payment procedure like 6 12 months advance or monthly billing ?

Q.can i easily switch from PTCL to other network if i want to.

Q1) Shiro and Huawei are the best (in what ptcl offers for free...if u want u can buy another modem)
Q2) dunno abt this
Q3) hell no, u gotta go through a lotta stuff before u can get it terminated...ie. goto the exchange 3 or 4 times

Wow man 1999 for 1 mbps unlimited download and for those studying in HEC unis would just pay 1399 for 1 mbps! And what maxcom is giving me is 512 for 1800 unlimited! I think i should go for ptcl to cuz i can get 1 mbps for 1399, or should i wait for maxcom to upgrade the speeds :S. Help!

You are asking too much questions about the distance, just keep the 2KM range in your mind from the telephone exchange, the 2KM value is just a assumption for a good speed as DSL depends a lot on the distance factor. But even if your house is more then 2KM far from the telephone exchange this doesn't mean that you will get a bad speed (but there will be a risk).

So calm down and JUST DO IT! i-e get the service.

lol, he means aerial distance...we need pole distance, from pole to pole to pole to ur house...khair it wont be too much if u live that near

finally i apply for 512k student package .. just reading Ptcl BB Faqs "what does 12 month contract period means" i hav to pay advanced??? plz clear this bcz im the one who is going to pay the Bill .
