Nah I don't think It's scheduled maintenance cause of two reasons:
1. The CPU/ RAM/ HD usage (in task manager) are normal (0~5%) whenever the system slows down.
2. I checked the Scheduler to see if Windows Defender/ Defragmenter had any scheduled maintenace at that time. Which it didn't.

The most recent thing I'd installed was an update to a wireless driver. I've uninstalled that, but it's still happening.

Detailed Explanation:

It's like everything (browser,explorer,vlc,office) either slows down or stops responding for a while. Everything (Stats) look normal during that time.
A restart fixes it. Usually.

Well now that I think about it, this started happening after I reinstalled windows with the 2919355 Update. As I've reported before, it has stability problems on my system for some reason. So I'm gonna reinstall from a February ISO and not install the 2919355 update. Will report afterwards

Its Update 1, you will not get Updates afterward of July, so I suggest installing it and fix your indexing. Hopefully Microsoft will fix it. Although not installing and keep going is not an option by Microsoft.

It was rumored to be in September but I don't think Start Menu gonna return in Windows 8.1 with Update 2 as per ZDNet Mary Jo Foley source.

As long as windows defender keeps on getting updates, I'm okay with it. I mean I'd rather have a quicker windows without updates.

For fast search across your hard disk, Windows index files sometimes indexing got corrupted or cause errors like 8.1 Update 1, one common issue it causes is Explorer.exe at 100% CPU usage, I know you mentioned you don't face such issue but still I suggest you try this.

I already tried upgrading/ downgrading drivers. Gonna try reindexing tomorrow. Thanks~

guys any torrent links to a proper full professional edition windows 8 ...i dont need 8.1 ..only windows 8 .and steps how to activate --need to install on sr2 .

Why do you need "Windows 8" and not "8.1 with Update 1"? Any specific reason?

You can find a full fledge repository for Windows 8 at MDLForums > Windows 8 section.

coz i need to install it for my sr2 - ohh yep win 8.1 pro supports dual cpus ..so yes my bad i think 8.1 will be fine .

can you please pm a link if avaliable on iptorrent on a proper iso for win 8.1 pro edition , which i can then copy to a flash disc and then install on the sr2 .

help appreiated -

Screw Windows 7. Move to Windows 8.1 (with Update 1)

If you still insist, then you can use "Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool" by Microsoft.
