Pakistan begin Asia Cup campaign with 7-0 hammering of Japan - DAWN.COM

Muhammad Imran’s men, who must win the title to earn a berth at next year’s World Cup in the Netherlands, started in rollicking fashion through a Muhammad Waqas double in the 11th and 20th minute of the match. Star forward Abdul Haseem Khan then got on the board in the 22nd before Muhammad Tousiq’s brace and another by Imran gave the Greenshirts a commanding 6-0 lead going into half-time.

It's not like we'll set the arena on fire at next year's World Cup if we manage to book a place <_<

Asian hockey is so far behind Europe and Australian standards it isn't even funny. I'd rather be more impressed if we qualify for the World Cups based on our CT and Olympics performances.

Winning 'lulloo punjoo' Asian tournaments is no big deal. Having said that, I really hope we do qualify for the 2014 World Cup. Go Green Shirts! May victory be ours Insh'Allah (1)

Pakistan lose to South Korea 2-1 and are out of the World Cup as well. For the first time in 42 years may I add.
This may prove to be a blessing in disguise. And it's not like we would've set the tournament alight anyway.

Hockey lacks funds its stuck on funds since 15 years , I hardly see any kid even owning a hockey stick , when I was young kid I had three hockey's and use to play even that time I found 1 out of 20 kids interest in playing hockey .
Its really sad to see such state of national game

Funds are an issue but not the issue. We simply lack technical expertise in the sport. Hockey has evolved rapidly over the past few decades and we just haven't been able to keep up with it.

I doubt the present team plays any worse than our champion side of the 70's and 80's.

which brands ? I was too conscious about brands in my playing days

Owned a "Slazenger" fibre glass and a unbranded kid's hockey stick.

i don't remember much but one was slazenger i remember that , that i remember all three were top class , i had hockey pads and shin guards as well . As not many kids use to play hockey, played only when some international team was winning some thing , my focus shifted more towards football in nights and cricket in evening

I bought three hockey sticks in the aftermath of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. A Chakravarti, a Grays and another one with a yellow sticker whose brand name I can't seem to recall.

Lovely sticks all three of them. Although I highly doubt they were authentic. lol

So what did u do with your 3 hockey sticks, surely you didn't played hmm ....
Bought one for each sibling. I never played Hockey as seriously as I did Cricket. Played mostly within the house (we have a nice little lawn). Practicing penalty-corners, dribbling and stuff with a tape-ball.

It's hard and resembles an over-sized golf ball complete with indentations. I believe they changed the design to its present state ever since Hockey started being played on Astro Turf.
