i just got the ultimate ears 700 and enjoying the music on this
here is my two cents on them (ultimate ears 600 is the little brother of the same, so same general sonic signature)
i am using these unamped as in directly from my htc one s (more often then not with beats audio option turned off as it just is not my thing unless the track demands it)
the pros:
1. crystal clear quality with immense detail retrieval, you can easily tell the position of different instruments being played not just merely tell which kinds of instruments played the songs. you can tell the difference between a flac and a low quality mp3
2. the neutral sound if thats your thing is delivered here exactly as the reviews suggested, my previous experience is with cooler master sirus, jvc ha 55 (or close enough model
) and koss kc 75, boss ie 2 and occasionally listening to beats from a friend (i would kill myself before owning them myself) so its easily to see how neutral the sound signature is compared to the bass heavy sound, slight emphasis on treble though (at higher volume ...by that volume ur gona hurt your ears anyways)
3. Comply foam comfort, its amazing the comply foams change the overall perception of an earphone
4. Noise isolation is pretty damn good and cant even be compared to your normal traditional earphones available in the market (bose ie2 is not meant for noise isolation)
Cons
1. Bass will be different then what you are used to, the drums and everything will be precise and the decay will be fast (the sound of bass and then suddenly it goes away doesnt gives you a humming affect unless in the song) so thats what you will have to get used to ...its not a bass heads earphone but im trying it out, the clarity and the overall quality of bass is fun so far
2. sibilence in some tracks (when you get some high treble response with tss and sss pronunciation in some songs, thats controllable through comply ear tips since they numb down the treble a bit but buyer beware it is not 100% gone its 90% gone only
3. not the worlds most durable earphones and if it wernt for the local waranty from czone i wouldnt have bought them period heard too many scary stories about ue breaking down at the plugin jack :O
4. no replaceable cable or mic ...at this level you kind of expect certain things more then music .... or you dont but depends on priorities (i could have liked the mic but i can live without it.
5. neutral sound ...so its a positive and a negative in itself
wont shine on one single genre but wont do any genre badly either ...if i have to say it does drums and acoustics really really well compared to anything else (even the mids which are somehow its highlight) but dont expect to be completely blown away at the first listen they will be good but you will doubt yourself at first since perceptions have been moulded to always prefer bass heavy earphones over anything neutral
guess that was my two cents ... my poison of choice is alt rock, post grunge and some popular music on occasion. as long as you dont expect ear woofers out of them you will like the ultimate ear brand ... that was for the ultimate ears 700, the ultimate ears 600 is considered more sibilant and .... not exactly giving the same level of clarity so ...i wouldnt rather recommend those to you but if your trying to compare bose ie2 to these i suggest you try the bose at media center outlets (in khi it was there as of last week in dolmen mall) or venture out in your first expedition towards audiophile sonic signature :O (not saying i am ...by any stretch of the imagination)
