@shyber

Hooking it up in July on CNG. :) It can be done, you just need to know the proper people to do it.

Already have a Starlet GT with a friend (actually the person who is going to do the CNG setup, his car has a 1300cc intercooled turbo a nice intake and a free flow exhaust) running on CNG. That thing is fast, I tried catching up to it in a 2001 City (my own, petrol, runs beautifully) ... had no chance whatsoever to catch up.

Common misconception that a better intake worsens mileage. It improves it. Your car performs better, means u have to push it less to get a certain speed. Means more fuel economy.

When people get exahusts n intakes they keep pushing the car more and get crappy mileage.

And with a feather foot on the pedal, that turbo doesnt spool ... no boost (confirmed via guage), no extra fuel ... :)

I was talking about bigger intakes. I was under the impression that bigger intakes = more airflow, thus in automatic fuel systems, more petrol is pumped in to match the amount of air taken in, for a more powerful combustion.

Heavy press on the pedal = big intake opening = lotsa fuel wasted
I get your point though. But normally CNG guys put a cover on normal intakes, reducing it to 1/2 of its original size. Why's that?

Improper CNG setups. Most CNG walas do that. You go to some good ones however and they wont. Infact, they wont even bother if theres a cold air intake

They do it for economy if I remember correctly. With very little air flow they need very little gas flow for proper combustion. However, since that means very little power,in the end you push it more ... plus drives like shit. It was either that or not matching up the CNG kit right. Ill ask up and let you know, but ive seen cars run without a taped intake ... even a turbo + cold air intake.

You are right on that. But ... thing is ... intakes actually change the power band of the car a little bit. Long intake runner will make the car torquey (the thing that actually matters, not HP), and with the low end torque you wont be needing to push to hard. Plus ... these intakes are Cold Air Intakes ... the colder the air the better teh combustion the more the power with the same amount of uel :) The fueling in a EFi car varies alot with the temprature as well.

Actual amount of airflow mainly depends on the size of teh throttle body (the butterfly as people call it). Cus when you push the throttle, that thing opens.
