This game's "DEFINITIVE EDITION" is as disappointing as Final Fantasy 8's remaster in my opinion

I agree that FF8's remaster is a disappointment, since the backgrounds are really ugly and stand out in comparison to the character models. But that's not the case for Xenoblade Chronicles DE. Character models and environments are both remade to bring the visuals on-par with Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Plus, there are QoL gameplay/UI improvements.

Perhaps you don't like the more "anime"-ish character aesthetic?

Remasters aside, FF8 is the better game of the two for sure

I like both (though not a fan of FFVIII's level scaling), but prefer Xenoblade Chronicles. It's also the better reviewed game
