Leaks here, leaks there, leaks coming from everywhere. While a new Wolfenstein is almost assured to be at Bethesda’s E3 press conference, an entry on Amazon.de suggests that a sequel to The New Order could be coming sooner than expected.

Titled ‘Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus’, the game is set to launch on October 27. If this posting turns out to be correct, October 27 looks to be quite the busy day, as Assassin’s Creed: Origins is set to release on that day as well.

This October release date is certainly not out of the question, as developer Machine Games have been working on what is mostly likely The New Colossus for quite a while now. Bethesda’s VP of marketing Pete Hines called it “fucking bananas” in an interview back in February and it was also hinted at during the opening of last year’s E3 conference, so Machine Games haven't exactly rushed the game to market.

Based on the press invitation for Bethesda’s E3 conference, there is still one other game that will be announced at the show. Based on leaks and other rumours, the consensus is that it will be a sequel to Shinji Mikami’s survival horror, The Evil Within.

[h=1]BJ Blazkowicz is back in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus[/h]

[h=2]MachineGames takes the fight against Nazis to 1960s America[/h]

MachineGames will bring players back to its alternate history hellscape with Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. The developer broke the news at Bethesda’s 2017 E3 press event.

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One Oct. 27.
Bethesda revealed the new Wolfenstein in an extended trailer that was part live-action, but mostly gameplay. In the sequel, it looks like protagonist BJ Blazkowicz — aka “Terror-Billy” in the sequel — will take his fight against the Nazi regime to America, where he’ll ally himself with a group of militant resistance fighters.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus takes place in 1961. Players will journey from Roswell, New Mexico to gator-filled New Orleans to post-nuclear New York. “Equip an arsenal of badass guns, and unleash new abilities to blast your way through legions of advanced Nazi soldiers, cyborgs, and über soldiers in this definitive first-person shooter,” Bethesda said in an official announcement.

[h=1]Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus starts off with BJ Blazkowicz in a bad way[/h]

[h=2]Horribly wounded, wheelchair-bound and under attack[/h]

The centerpiece of Bethesda’s slate of games at this year’s E3 is MachineGamesWolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. The team brought along a playable, 30-minute demo, which we were able to devour behind closed doors on the show floor.

The game has the same brutal gunplay as the original, but don’t expect to start kicking butts right off the bat. That’s because our hero, BJ Blazkowicz, is in a bad way.
What follows includes spoilers for the opening level of Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus.
The demo begins with Blazkowicz still recovering from the wounds he received at the end ofWolfenstein: The New Order. He’s been asleep for a long time, and the scars on his chest make it look like Resistance doctors had a hard time even finding all the right pieces to stitch together. His kidneys are failing and, looking around at his body, you can even see the bag of his catheter poking out from underneath his hospital gown.
But just as Blazkowicz wakes up, the Nazis launch their assault.

To escape, I had to fight my way out of a massive submarine in a wheelchair. Movement was painfully slow. Blazkowicz groaned as he hauled his chair up and over bulkheads and down corridors. I was able to get a burst of speed, but to do so I had to lower my weapon and leave myself defenseless.
The Nazis had taken strategic locations all over the ship, and the only way out was straight through them. It was clear that the level I played was still in development. There was only a single gun to use, and it was a painfully weak machine pistol at that. Many of the puzzles were also unnecessarily opaque, especially those that involved using the sub’s machinery to lift Blazkowicz’s wheelchair up and over obstacles.
MachineGames/Bethesda
The hardest part was the fact that Blazkowicz was slowly bleeding out the entire time. I was only able to heal myself permanently to about 40 percent health. While I found tons of health packs all around, as soon as my counter went over 40 percent it would begin to fall. To get through certain spots I had to buff myself heavily, and then roll madly into combat.

Combat was fierce, even with just a pistol. I forgot just how many rounds it takes to kill a Nazi in this world, and I went through just about all the ammunition that I could find.
Narratively, the game takes a dark turn early on. Frau Engel makes an appearance, and this time she’s brought along her daughter, who she constantly berates over her appearance. The demo ended with Engel forcing her to lop the head off a prisoner, Resistance leader Caroline Becker, to prove her mettle.
But then the demo abruptly ended. What I can say is that when I left him, BJ Blazkowicz was still in that wheelchair. I absolutely think that fan theories about his head being swapped to a different body are true. Just how much MachineGames plays with that in the new game is anyone’s guess.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One Oct. 27.

[h=1]Wolfenstein 3D returns with a twist in Wolfenstein 2[/h]

[h=2]Game within a game lets players try a version of Wolfenstein that never was[/h]

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossuslets players experience a fully-featured version ofWolfenstein 3D within the game itself, although there’s a bit of an alternate history twist: You play as the bad guys.
In Wolfenstein 2, B.J. Blazkowicz and his fellow Kreisau Circle resistance fighters have set up base in a captured Nazi U-Boat. They’ve filled it with all the comforts of home: art, music, alcohol and yup — games.
In Club Kreisau, players will find a functioning arcade cabinet for a game called Wolfstone 3D. The game is looks and feels just like Wolfenstein 3D, but with some notable differences. Instead of hunting Nazis, you’re fighting Kreisau “terrorists.” Rather than portraits of the führer, walls are decorated with the Reich’s most wanted criminal, B.J. Blazkowicz.
This isn’t the first time MachineGames has given players a flashback to Wolfenstein 3D.Wolfenstein: The New Order featured hidden “nightmare” levels, where B.J. would find himself in labyrinthine areas rendered in the low-res sprite style of the classic shooter.
Wolfstone 3D has six full levels, and it even has a save game system. We’re not sure what lies at the end of the twisted tribute to Wolfenstein 3D, but intrepid players will have a chance to find out when Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus launches on Oct. 27.

PS4 Pro version runs at 1440p/60 FPS according to the developers themselves. 1440p games scale very nicely to a 4K TV, so this should look pretty damn good if it doesn't have extra frame drops.

[h=1]Yes, B.J. Blazkowicz is Jewish[/h]
[h=2]The debate is finally put to bed[/h]

Throughout the Wolfenstein series, one question has remained unanswered: Is protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz Jewish? His name sounds Ashkenazic or Eastern European in origin. He loves killing Nazis. And Jewish mysticism has become a thread in his most recent adventures.
Id Software co-founders John Carmack and Tom Hall have stated for years that the hero was meant to be of Jewish descent, but the original games never made this explicitly canon.
Here’s Carmack’s response to a fan who asked, “is B.J. Blazkowicz Jewish?”

A more recent interview with Brian Bloom, who provides the voice of Blazkowicz, was a bit more introspective about the question.
“I think what’s more important is: does B.J. identify that way?” Bloom told PCGamesN. “I think what’s more important to him is that he sees himself as somebody who wants to fight bigotry no matter what or who he is. I think that’s probably the greater takeaway, rather than getting bogged down in the specificity, although the story does get into that because that’s a fulcrum or lens you can use to orbit that subject.”
But Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus gives a definitive, in-universe answer to the question. Blazkowicz is canonically Jewish. Be aware that we’re going to be diving into slight spoiler territory from here on out.
[h=3]WHO WERE HIS PARENTS?[/h]The newest game in the series digs deep in Blazkowicz’s past, particularly his relationship with his parents. His father was an abusive bigot who married his Jewish mother for a connection to her family’s business.
Another character in the game refers to him as “the half-breed child of a salesman and a Polish Jew,” which means his enemies are very much aware of his lineage.
Bloom was right in that Blazkowicz doesn’t seem to practice the faith of his mother, at least not in any aspects of his life we see in the games, but it’s now a canonical aspect of his character. His past and lineage matters in a direct way, even if he doesn’t state it as such in the game itself.
It’s also worth noting that Orthodox Judaism defers to matrilineal descent, meaning your status as a Jew or gentile is passed down from your mother, not your father. Many secular Jews think of Judaism has a culture or ethnicity, so that though they don’t practice the faith, they still identity within it and its history.
“To speak of descent — matrilineal or patrilineal — itself implies a remarkable assumption: That Jewishness can be a matter of descent, rather than belief; that the foundation of Jewish identity is genealogy rather than theology,” Meir Soloveichik wrote in the Rohr Chabad House at Stanford. “In Jewish chosenness, spiritual identity is inextricably bound up with familial identity. One born to Jewish parents is a Jew, a member of God's covenant, no matter the extent to which one conforms to the tenets of the Tora or accepts Jewish dogma. In this respect Judaism differs fundamentally from Christianity, in which participation is essentially a matter of faith, rather than descent.”
So by Jewish traditions, Blazkowicz doesn’t have to practice his faith in order to be Jewish himself; the status was passed down to him through his mother’s family. Modern teaching is much less picky about which of your parents is or was Jewish, but we’re viewing Blazkowicz’s life almost exclusively through the lens of his fight against Nazi Germany. In that context his mother, her family and any and all children would be targets of the Reich.
The question of Blazkowicz’ faith and its importance in the Wolfenstein lore has been an interesting talking point for a long time. And now we have a definitive answer.

How Wolfenstein 2 scales up the console power ladder • Eurogamer.net

Visuals:
As it goes then, Machine Games' latest joins the swelling ranks of 1440p Pro titles, and it'll be fascinating to see how Xbox One X improves beyond this result.

Besides that upgrade in resolution, Pro users also enjoy improved texture filtering on select surfaces, but beyond that, enhancements are sadly on the meagre side. You get improved detail levels on a 4K screen, but the same core assets, effects and quality settings are in place, making it a resolution/filtering upgrade only.
Performance:
frame-rates between the two PS4s are essentially identical.
For the first 30 minutes the game runs faultlessly at this number, but once we get to our feet, the fact is just looking at a complex area brings both consoles down to the mid-50fps point. With lots of enemies on screen and those GPU-accelerated particles in play, the line starts to dip, even on PS4 Pro.
Factoring in Xbox One, you'd hope that the resolution drop to 810p would offer the same performance level as the PlayStation consoles, but the fact is that performance is worse on Xbox One, and by a noticeable degree. The game wavers from 50 to 60fps more aggressively, and Microsoft's machine does touch the lower bounds of that more often than either PlayStation console.
Before Xbox One X lands, the best way to play on console for now is on PS4 or PS4 Pro. And besides the shift upwards to 1440p on Pro, there's really not much to divide the two in any other aspect.
Doesn't look like its optimized well. Wouldn't be surprised if PC version suffers the same drops in performance.

Ask and ye shall receive, patch 1.02 has optimization improvements (on the consoles at least) with average frame rates now 56 and 58 on PS4 and Pro and it sticks to target resolution 1080p and 1440p a lot better. In-turn, the volumetric lighting has been toned down somewhat.

lol incorrect. Theres a big cut back and now its subtle at best. On the other hand, shadows are only slightly improved. Thats a significant compromise rather than an example of good optimisation.

It serves to improve the avg frame rate and avg resolution across the board. NXG didn't go into how it effects the full game, but I think the trade off is worth it if it means a better playing and smoother looking game.

Its still not a stable 60fps read out.. 56 to 58 isn’t that big a change. It means hitching and drops are still there, even after cutting out volumetric lighting and introducing dynamic res.
I personally wont be installing this update if they put it out on PC. Visuals and atmosphere have taken a huge hit.
