How to install Windows XP installable on a Sandy Bridge based PC?

Hello everyone,

My PC is a Sandy Bridge based PC i.e. Core i7 2600K, mobo is Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, Hard drive is WD 1002FAEX Black Sata III and graphic card Nvidia EVGA GTX570. The problem is that I don't know how to install Windows XP on this PC with dual boot Windows 7. As far as I know, for Sandy Bridge builds, you can only install Windows XP if it is Service Pack 3. I can get Windows XP sp3. But there are other requirements like slipstreaming SATA drivers into Windows XP otherwise it would not detect the hard drive of the Sandy Bridge PC during installation. Since I have a limited technical knowledge I would need your help to guide me how to do this task. A step by step guidance would be very appreciated in simple language. Please help me in the matter. I would remain thankful to you for ever. Thanks:chinese:

I am sick of it. Sorry to say but i like my XP way better then 7, due to some network stuff (I own a wireless network) so yeah i need XP installed on my PC.

I've downloaded 64bit XP and installed that too, but that shitty blue screen comes everytime i do it. So i gave up.

I really wanna install xp on my pc and want to get rid of 7.

Specs:
i7 2700k
P8P67 B3
2TB WD HDD
4GB Dominator ram

Dear describe clearly if you have successfully completed installation OR that blue screen is appearing during installation ?
Any error code or message that you might have notice ?

If its happening during installations, I am afraid the copy of XP you have downloaded might be corrupt.

WINDOWS XP is not compatible with INTEL SANDYBRIDGE processors.
it will show BSOD restart, so its better to upgrade to win 7...

---------- Post added at 05:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:02 PM ----------

there are some sata drivers issue which shows BSOD .Only caveat is that you need to have SP3 on your install disc or the installation routine will not recognize sata hardrives. You can easily slipstream sp3 onto a new install disc if your doesn't have it.
have a look at this thread..

@ Ghani, it doesn't work either. I get it while installation. Like when it check all drivers and go for the agreement. Then a blue screen everytime. I tried many many DVDs, CDs doesn't work. OMmee Said there that i have to do SATA to IDE? Why? XP don't support SATA lol?

Instead of reverting back to XP, may i ask what are the "problems" you are facing with Win7?

If you are new to it then give it some time. You'll settle with it.

That said, if you so want WinXP for some reasons, you can try the XP Mode in Win7.

As for installing XP on your current hardware, you'll require to set the HDD to Legacy mode (instead of Native ... from BIOS) to be able to install a Legacy OS (to counter compatibility issues). But its NOT recommended.

Well i am facing the shit problem ever. The windows is taking tooooo much space. i even deleted the program files and set up it on the other but its full again. What the heck? Windows is taking too much space to use. It's like 100GB now. :S I can't bare it. I'll downgrade my pc if i have to install win xp! and abo, I do networking and lot of hardcore works that is hassle in 7 other then in XP. And Oh I am using Win 7 from a year now. So I am very much settled at it but im still needing my XP :(

Look at the guy, owns friggin TWO TERA BYTES and still complains about the SPACE. <_<

I have 80GB Parition for Win7, which is 76GB+ filled with windows and all my softwares, plus about 10GB assigned for Shadow Copies & System Restore. I NEVER complained about Win7 eating my Space, but i am satisfied the way it performs.

100GB parition is JUST FINE for Win7. Maybe Indexing Service is ON in background which is making the space reduce on its own.
Also make sure your System Restores are not taking EXTRA space. Delete ALL the system Restores and make only one or two of your OWN.

----

What kind of Networking or Hardcore stuff do you do which cannot be done on Win7? Seriously :S

From one year you've been using Win7. You certainly dont seem like doing so.

Well. I care about the space because C has only 100gb in it. and it's damn full which irritates me alot. Like 128KB is left and sometimes i can't even watch friggin YouTube videos due to LOW memory and can't even open PICS due to THAT. I own a sandy system and 7 fucks it. Anyway, Networking is REALLY crap in Windows 7, Setting up LAN, Setting up Wireless setups, Managing routers is insane. Btw thanks abo, I'll try what you said.

^ Then install a new windows. A clean install ALWAYS helps. This might be a big hassle (i can understand installing/uninstalling dozens of softwares again), but do it once and do it GOOD, and you wont be needing to reinstall windows to solve small problems again.

Download Win7 SP1 Edition, which should have all the latest updates included. Burn a disc of it (or whatever procedure you want to use) and install it right away.

You should always use CCleaner to clear useless crap.

And Which networking problem are you facing anyway? If you are facing problem in Connecting TWO PCs (or making a home network or whatever) then there are LOADS of suggestions on SevenForums. Google it.

I am running a Wireless (N) Home Network consisting of 5 PCs (All running Win7, 32bit as well as 64bit) over my LinkSys Dual Band Router. It was a little difficult with Wires but it is much more easier on Wireless.

You are the first person i am seeing talking trash regarding Networking on Win7. Unless you are doing some CCNA or CCNP stuff, i am assuming you are just another ordinary person who is frustrated with tiny problems win Win7.

I have a sandybridge system as well, I run xp and windows 7 in dual boot. I have always used dual boot windows, first it was ME and 2000 then 2000 and xp, then xp and vista and so on....

I have 3 partitions in my hd of 500 gb. One has xp on it and one has windows 7. I always back up my games and important data monthly on dvds and my hard disk always has plenty of free data on it. DVDs are so cheap if you buy them in a bundle nowadays anyways like 12-16 rs so who cares.

Xp does keep giving me some problems regarding my lan driver for some reason so I really don't use it that much to cruise the net. Only for some particular software I use xp and I have been doing this for some years now and I have faced very little problems.

Whenever I feel I have a virus or something I just transfer my data to another partition and and reformat, takes me half an hour to 40 minutes tops. I don't get that many viruses or malware to begin with because I used antivirus and the other malware software to keep it off anyways.

I have been doing this for 15 years now. Its all about how you set up your system people.

You cannot run Turbo C on Win7? Really?

I dont know if it helps, but i AM running a Borland Turbo C++ v5.02 on my home Win7 32bit. It runs just PERFECT. (One of my sibling is doing BCS)

----

Why people with Sandybidge PCs still want to install Windows XP is beyond me. I mean comon ... upgrade your OLD Win7's and get the Latest Win7 Setup from somewhere. SP1 has been with us for quite a while now. Use the XP-Mode if its really necessary or even try the Compatibility Feature.

We are not living in Stone Age where we still face 'compatibility issues' on Win7.

Xp on Sandy Bridge Woes

Hi All, I am also wanting to install XP on my Sandy Bridge PC, I have an older hp scanner that is only compatible with xp. It scans negatives and color slides and i need it for my work. XP mode in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit is apparently not possible according to the Micro$ft website. Any help on how to get xp in dual boot or any form would be greatly appreciated.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
