Update

First actual footage:

--------------------

Just announced at AOU, the final upgrade to VF5, two years after VF5R came out. No details but you can see from the video that there's a LOT of new animation that will probably make its way into the game somehow. There are also a ton of new costumes. From what I can tell the game is working a lot like Soulcalibur 3 with more ground-based stun juggles rather than float juggles, something that a lot of western gamers really hate to see (bodies flying in the air because of weak jabs).

Trailer:

Hope this gets a console port.

Not enough bouncing boobies.... gimme DOA 5 over this any day.

But seriously, VF5 on the consoles isn't such a bad game. Console port is kinda imminent.

It still remains the most technical 3d fighting game. Id never say no to bouncing boobies...but id take game play any day over watching some dumb blond with huge tits in revealing costumes doing round house kicks ;)

Played many times, but I could never get into VF series. Early DOA games were way too easy and button mashing (esp the counter system). Later on the refined combat demanded a bit more accuracy in timing. So basically, I'm with bad Mofo on this one... gimme DOA 5!

VF is not everybody's piece of cake...specially people who'r more used to tekken....VF plays very differntly, it has a niche following...but its pretty big amongst some circles...

Yes. Virtua Fighter series is still the most technical fighting games ever made. For the brief time I played it, actually defeating a skilled player was more rewarding than any other fighting game I've played. DOA and Tekken (DOA for the most part) have spoiled me in that regard :p...although technical on their own merit, there a rookie CAN defeat a skilled player by luck. That just can't happen in VF.

What they need desperately now is to port this on consoles and give us an ONLINE MODE!!!

Cool game. I used to play it quite a bit back in VF2 days. This is like real old though. I am hardly in touch with later installments. This game really does need a good online mode.

Something that was interesting in the few vids, I watched later on, was how quickly the players seem to stride forward and do a fairly difficult throw within a fraction of a second, during a real game. One example would be that Akira's throw which goes like hurricane kick of ryu (with some PKG combination instead of kick).

Another interesting trivia is that one of the players who was sbo winner few years back was also a player in the super play dvd of dodonpachi dai ou jou.

There was also this UK show that I saw sometime back which was presumably back from VF2 days. They called in a japanese player (some tournament winner) and hundred different kids, who were all VF players, from all across UK. So the challenge to the japanese player was to defeat all 100 of the kids in one single sitting. They arranged the opponents in increasing order of skill (easier to harder). Interestingly the japanese player did manage to win all 100 of the games, although he did lose quite a few rounds near the end. The last opponent was also probably the best player since he managed to give a real scare.

I totally agree... VF5 was a let down in terms of online play.

Virtua Fighter 5. My first game on the PS3 :D

Played a lot of it. And I really appreciate it. It's much much technical and believable than either SF or Tekken games. And it's insanely hard. And it also has the best graphics I've ever seen in fighting games. Yes, I'm talking about VF5 which released in '06 or '07.

^ Graphics look really good. Character models are detailed and cloth movement looks realistic. But take a look at the sand after 1:00 minute mark

Exactly what I noticed. Theres still a PC gamer in you ;)

Yep... together with the port, an online component is badly needed. The excuse of slowdowns affecting the hardcore gameplay simply isn't enough now.

Oh yeah, the sand effect was pretty cool.
