GTX 970's MSRP is $329 actually not $350.
Goodbye AMD, better stick with those console gpu's. :/

from This 9xx series, it seems TRUE. Dont know How AMD response to this. i heard r9 390 will be there next Big GUN
And will probably require a separate power plant to run. Sure AMD may super overclock the chip and put water cooler and extreme price cut but it ain't exactly a solution. Technology wise they are losing at both ends, i.e. with intel in processor market and againist NVidia in the gpu market.

benchmarks on web, shows 980 beating 780Ti with noticeable margin but in real world games, the difference shrinks. same with 290x.

the power consumption is much better than 780 and 290x

ahem.. All The R9 Gpus (R9 270-R9 295) From AMD Have DX 12.

- - - Updated - - -

I am In For MSI's Or Asus's GTX 970 But Design looks too bad.
GCN 1.0 / 1.1 / 1,2 only has software side support for DirectX 12. It adopts the low-level CPU overhead design which they already have with Mantle but the necessary hardware side enhancements aren't there.

Maxwell has full Direct3D render 12 (11 V2 / 11 V3) support, not just software side implementations.

It will get better as newer drivers for Maxwell rolls out. 980 is about 10% faster then Ti in reference design

Nvidia officially destroyed AMD.....

GTX 970 $350
GTX 980 $550
That happens with every new GPU series launch (either from Nvidia or AMD). The launch of Hawaii GPUs spelled trouble for all high end Nvidia GPUs, all the price cuts on GTX 780, 780 Ti and Titan happened because of AMD's R9 290 and 290X. Even the history's most ridiculously priced Titan-Z (3000$) didn't bested it's AMD's counterpart R9 295x2 which is available at exactly half price of 1500$.

So the launch of GTX 970 and 980 doesn't mean doom for AMD. This is almost the end of 28nm life cycle so all the good money is already made. AMD will cut down prices of R9 290 and 290X to stay longer in the market and then focus on 20nm Pirate Islands (R9 3xx), though it's true this time they have to focus more on power consumption, heat and noise.

You know how they say: 'Innocent until proven guilty'? well it goes hand in hand with Nvidias latest (GTX 980) against whatever AMD may offer in the future. I knew that this was almost exactly gonna happen when the 750 ti came out, also when I personally tried it.

We all agree that the Titan-Z was an absurd move, in terms of pricing, and it makes sense that it wasn't meant for your ordinary guy to buy it. The 295 went even lower than $1000 for a limited time, but then again, I personally think that they were for two different markets, so I wouldn't really say something like a counter part....

Maxwell changed the game completely, without any doubt.

GTX 970 is exactly what I wanted from my next GPU. High end performance with very low power draw, very solar power friendly.;).
Price of 970 is also good.

The Gtx970 is Gtx8800GT all over again. With a single product, the Gtx 970, Nvidia has made virtually obsolete all cards above 300$. The 290X needs to drop to 300-350$ to compete on performance, while noise and power are completely in Nvidia's favor.

Infact, all it now takes if for Nvidia to release the 960 at around 250$ and AMD may as well give up.

For the 1st time in 5 years, well done to Nvidia.

Personally I have no problem if Nvidia changes the game or AMD does it, competition is what drives innovation and that's what I want to see happening. I agree that Titan-Z and 295 were meant for another market but even if we look at normal Titan (1000$) then that's another ridiculously priced GPU from Nvidia judging by the fact that a budget high end GPU like R9 290 out performs it in most cases. That's why AMD should remain in competition to keep Nvidia on edges thus giving benefits to customers from both price point and innovation, if AMD gets out then we'll see more trends of 1000$ Titans.

THIS!!

GTX 970 price-performance ratio is just TOOO GOOOD. There is no card that can compete with it at the moment.

GTX 970 performs better than R9 290x, is more quieter, consumes far less power, is far less cheaper and runs cooler. Even if R9 290X drops to $300-$350 price point, I don't see any reason to buy it.

I was gonna go with R9 280x, but now I'm all for the green team, need to gather cash fast for GTX 970. :p

The thing people are forgetting is that this being the mid-tier chip in terms of architecture (GM204) is performing on par with GeForce GTX 690 (at 4K, 1600P) which has two GK104 chips. GM204 isn't only 2x the wattage efficiency, its 2x the performance over its generational core counterpart from Kepler series and this isn't even the GM200 chip.

Maxwell is bat shit crazy.
